I think it's about how there's always that person you depend on to do well. You can always say "Well at least Johnny is doing well." Everyone has that person they can depend on, that person who seems invincible. Tyler is singing about his Johnny Boy who starts to fall, and he wants him to do well so much that he'd do anything to help him back up. He needs him to do well because if Johnny can't do well, then how will anyone make it? It's like seeing your hero fall.

I'm sure most of you know, both Tyler and Josh or Christians and have said their faith plays a big part in their music (although Josh wasn't in the picture yet when the self titled album was released.) Heres an explanation taken from genius.com website, explains it better than i can: This verse, combined with the “you’re my pride and joy” line, makes me think that the narrator is Jesus and Johnny Boy is John the Baptist. John the Baptist was just an ordinary guy before he was called into God’s duty to baptise people. Jesus carried the sins of people, e.g. “names” and “shame.”

I see it as (IM NOT SAYING THIS IS CORRECT) Johnny boy as a kid who has grown up and he has a job and wife. Everyone sees him as this adult who knows what's hes doing. But Johnny boy is really depressed and he doesn't let people see it because no one approves of a man who cant take care of himself when he has a wife to love. And everyone depends on him and its really hard for him. And everyone sees him as qualified to do simple things so when he really shows himself everyone is telling him to get up off the floor. I see it as a man who is falling in love with Jesus. He was seen as the idiot or simple man of a non Christian town. So when he becomes a Christian everyone shames him for it and leave him lying on the ground. But he is seen to others and a symbol of pride, joy, and hope. "He is falling in love and he knows it's enough. But the world looks down and frowns."

Idk if anyone is still around here in 2020, but every time I listen to this song, I think of how discrimination is still affecting us today. The lyrics seem to relate to the struggles of a black person’s life, such as “they blame it on the times” and “the man deserves a medal but he’s never really won a prize”. When you think about it more, The whole song seems to fit into this. A lot of times, I find myself picturing a scenario to go with the songs I listen to. This really seems to make sense, almost like the song plays into this.

Is "the Outsiders" good? I was thinking of getting into it, but always set it back.

Nick Wunderlich It's very good. I like the vibe from it and the many lessons you can learn. It at times can be relatable. Just a warning though, at the end you'll be legit crying your eyes out.

i went to their show in saint petersburg yesterday and now i can't stop listening to their music for the whole day i'm writing this here because "johnny boy" was the song they played when i started crying and couldn't stop until they've played all their old songs... i never felt so emotional i'm just so happy i finally got to see them live thank you, josh and tyler, for this incredible night, i'll never forget this moment ❤️❤️❤️

I feel bad because last night my mom fell like right on her face when getting out of the shower and I was listening to this so I said "Get up johnny boy!"

Okie Dokie. So, I was reading "the outsiders", by S. E. Hinton at the time of 'discovering' this song, and I just cant stop thinking about how much this goes with Johnny. "Get up Johnny boy, get up Johnny boy, Get up, because we all need you now." Fits with the story. The entire gang NEEDED Johnny, more than they knew. Not only those lyrics fit, but, "...Because the world has left you lying, lying on the ground. You're my pride and joy, you're my pride and joy, get up Johnny boy.." The world had dealt him a bad deck of cards. He'd been born in a terrible home, and was literally described as a kicked-around-puppy. He looked up to Dally, and nearing the end of his life, Dally seemed to really be proud of him. Therefore, "You're my pride and joy." I dunno, it's just me being a nerd probably, but yeah. :'33

i have a time in the day, about 11pm, where i just listen so intently to the music i love. i close my eyes and there is nothing but the music and i. i let the lyrics talk to me. i think it is my favourite time. thank you twenty one pilots for making this time of day so magical.

Personally I think Dallas' death was sadder for two reasons- 1. What they said after he died, " he died young, lost, and desperate for a home." And 2. He couldn't take the pain of having lost Johnny so he let the cops kill him

This girl in my grade was wearing twenty one pilots merch (shirt, hat, shoes) and then I got excited bc someone else gets it and I asked her what her favorite top songs were and she said "Oh I really like Tear in my heart, Stressed Out, and Car Radio" and I realized I got excited for no reason.

To me, this song is God singing to Johnny and just reminding him that even if no one notices what he goes through, does, doesnt do, etc, He is still there, and Tyler acknowledges that there is a Johnny in all of us

this is either a really religious song about John the Baptist with Jesus as the narrator or Tyler singing about a guy he personally knows, perhaps not named Johnny, telling him to keep fighting. If it's that, then this song would definitely tie in with Friend, Please.

Blurry Face Hard to tell, because both Tyler and Josh are devout Christians and it shows more on their earlier work. I always assumed it was the latter interpretation because I'm not familiar with Christianity and I liked top's themes of overcoming inner struggle.

Blurry Face I always thought this song was about him in high school when he was on the basket ball team or just high school in general because "Jonny Boy" is typically used as an expression that dad's use in sports. Like parents who are really into that sport. And like this song is about his struggle to overcome that? Idk i like your idea too. That's the cool thing about music, everyone has their own thought onto what the song is about.
