It's just more agro than it's worth. You'll have to brief everyone you know of the situation just in case these goons happen to come knocking. "I don't have a TV license here so please be vigilant of random inspector visits and don't say anything to anyone if you are approached near the house". It's only a matter of time until someone at or near your house engages with these inspectors and incriminates you even if you legit don't need a license. TV license needs to be scrapped to end all of this.

When I moved into my new house 4 years ago I had one knock. Maybe because I looked quite young, I just explained that I don’t watch live TV and stream everything. He noted it down, didn’t even come in the house and then never heard from them again 😂… seems pretty easy to me.

Anyone who knocks on a door unannounced is rude and they deserve rude behavior towards them.

Lucid Dream someone calls and asks if you’re busy and if not then they ask if it’s okay to stop by. You just don’t show up at someone’s door. It’s rude. They might already have company or be busy doing something else.

I may need to tell my neighbor something important, but I don't have a way of contacting them to ask before I knock. How would I tell them their dog is shitting on my lawn if I have to call them first. I tend to agree with you to call people first. I don't tend to show up at people's house before calling for various reasons.

To be fair the guy seemed harmless and wasn’t being a dick. I’ve never EVER had a license, they send letters starting with, you’ve no license etc etc…..the gradually escalate with letters saying they may visit then, they WILL visit then they may take you ti court if you don’t respond then they actually sent me one saying the date had been set for court and I must reply with 2-3 days, I was about to but decides to hold out, a week later, what came through my door, a letter saying. “We see you may not have a license” so they escalate it more and more and more to scare people into responding then they’ve got you when you do, but I’d you don’t and simply ignore them all then they revert back to the first letter again, and so the charade continues. Or like a mate of mine done, he hid the TVs under the bed upstairs, then invited them round to prove he doesn’t watch TV, they came in had a quick look after 30 seconds said. No problem sir. You will be taken off the list for 3 years, away he went, TVs back out from under the bed and bobs your uncle fannys your aunt….peace from these people. It isn’t then I have a problem with, (unless they are the jobs worth trying to be cheeky or smart or tough ones) it’s the government and bbc for still trying to enforce the ancient tax when it’s all propaganda and bull anyway) I’d everyone stopped paying it in one go, it would be over and scrapped, we the people have the power if we STICK TOGETHER, which is EXACTLY why they are trying to divide everyone at this exact time of our this covid bullshit!!

I've not had a license for over 5 years and not ONE goon has visited me. I'm beginning to think I'm just totally irrelevant to them. I always miss out on all the fun ☹☹☹

It's only insane in that the BBC collects on the premise that you must pay to watch live TV(or to record any BBC channel), and not based on whether one owns a TV. You can own as many as you like, but it's based on the theory the Beeb needs funding because it's a non-commercial channel - yet none of the money ever goes to any of the other commercial networks!! It's truly a scandal but no one ever calls them out on it! And they employ vast numbers of people to send out these threatening letters (just think of the administration & postage costs!) plus the visits to harass "unlicensed" properties where they can't seem to take No for an answer. These days fewer and fewer people actually REQUIRE one, but the tactics employed by these aka "enforcement" officers (really bog standard door to door salesmen!) is despicable. This guy was reasonable but he was still trying to catch the homeowner out into any admittance that might lead him to a prosecution, whether fair or not. However, to be fair, if someone says "I don't require one" they might reasonably enquire why, and logically go away satisfied but that's rare. They should also freely admit there are instances when the property genuinely, and by the rules of their game, does not need one!

@@dannydbrown90 the term “live television” means as it is broadcast on TV channels. Maybe read into it. I am a lorry driver and work away all coming home at weekends. My mrs works full time too. Neither of us watch any tv channels. We watch netflix etc. Licence free and perfectly legal

Its down to the BBC. They don’t have commercials on BBC channels so they get funding by the TV licence. You don’t need one if you don’t watch TV as its broadcast. You can’t watch catch up TV on apps but not the BBC one.

Did you know that when you purchase a new tv in store. The store pass that info to the TV people. Not payed for one til this day but had a few of these goons myself A license that is lol

It’s different there we used to pay for the bbc because it was advert free and they were able to run through the tv licence fee . USA has always had advertisements so they never had that loophole
