Just discovered this! For anyone not seeing changes made to hair settings in the viewport: To fix just go to Render Settings - Curves - drop down Viewport Display and switch it to Strip.

How would you go about making a procedure symbiote transformation, like in Spider-Man 3 or any animated shows? (Not just 2d, but 3d)

For anyone not seeing the hair colour in the viewport: Select the curve (hair), open the modifier properties, then under 'Generate hair curves' > set the hair material to your hair material. You should see your selected colour appear in the viewport.

For those who get blender crashing on Macos M1/M2 when you try the render view, you will need to disable the MetalRT Experimental checkbox in the system preferences.

You're stuck in the lowest level of tutorial hell. The donut has hair too actually, the sprinkles on top use the hair tool. Best thing you can do is to imagine something in your head and just make it. stop watching tutorials, hard to believe it but its holding you back.

following along with my 1:1 headscan was a hoot!

All these preset hair settings with detailed customisation is a very big thing. We get to the end result with very little work now.

Great breakdown of the hair system. One note of technical terminology: moving a camera is not "zooming". Zooming is changing the length of the lens, so you zoomed in by increasing the focal length and then moved the camera back by hitting G. If you animated the camer moving back that would be trucking or dollying, or if you gave it some noise alá Ian Hubert you'd be walking it back; but be that as it may, "zooming" refers to changing the focal length of the lens, not the position of the camera.

Would be awesome. The new hair assets don’t support simulation for now though.

If for whatever reason you cant see the assets in the library, You might wanna reinstall blender because I had a hard time figuring out that they weren't installed somehow and finding just the library online wouldn't come up. reeinstall was quick and easy tho

Is there a collision for the hair so it won't go through objects?

I am using blender 4.0. For some reason I cant seem to change the color of the fur using the nodes. The default color remains despite adding principled hair bsdf etc.

After making that Principled Hair BSDF Material, Look at the Curves' "Generate Hair Curves" Modifier. In the modifier, make sure your Fur Material is selected in the box labeled "Hair Material."

When this new Hair System actually has an easier way to make hair cards that auto-align to the target mesh instead of just being a tool for renders in Blender itself, then it will actually be worth something.

Very helpful tutorial. Thanks. One question, the particle based hair system reacted to physics: gravity, force fields, etc. when used in animations. Does this geometry node hair system also work with the physics engine? Thanks!

Physics for hair simulation is coming soonish to the hair system! For now you can animate all the Geo -nodes values though (like the noise for example to 'fake' a wind effect)

Hair curves can be posed with shape keys and armature bones.

@@lawrencedoliveiro9104 how tho? it doesnt have the vertex group/ shape key tab, and theres no way to weight paint it either, only edit or sculpt mode. so i dont know how an armature bone would be able to affect it

Make sure the material is selected in the hair modifiers

thanks for not showing up to set up the interpolate hair curves. They are simply not working for me and I don't know why.

When I changed the shader of the fur to 'principled hair bsdf', I cant seem to change the color. I am already on cycles so I kind of stuck.

1660 super might get you more performance in Blender, but haven't tested the arc in b3d yet so can't say for sure.

ig flipping it to 180° might get the work done, invertion trick that I used

The new hair features are awesome. No one ever seems to show how to animate the hair with it using dynamics.

I figured out how to animate/pose hair using armature bones. The trick is to put the armature on an edges-only mesh, and use that to make guide curves for the actual hair curves object.

As usual. You watch a video, try to replicate it, but right from the start, after creating fur and changing the rendering engine, the mesh of this hair doesn't respond to any of the sliders. All you can do with it is move and deform it around the scene like a regular mesh😓

for the laptop 4070 GPU is not enough, especially if you working with 4k textures in 3D, will need 4080 laptop for that really
