Also decent shortcut for some of this is to use import image as planes and just use the knife tool.

@@hardwire666too works, but results in an Ngon instead of clean topology - so bending and twisting the grass blades could look bad then. But the knife tool works great at taking the grass and making a cut lawn version!

It'd be way easier and still nice to create a single thin transparent pane and put the grass texture on both sides, so it'd a flat image of the grass...then make the panel itself flexible so it has fluid movement. Then duplicate the panels a few times, criss crossing them into a little cluster and group them. Three or 4 panels, transparent with a grass texture, the group has fluid movement. It works in open sim dream grid and it's like 1 or 2 prims. Doing fire is the same way, individual flame trans textures, criss crossed together into a group and add the particle smoke effects and glow and crackling sound. Blender is fantastic with that learning curve. I find it way easier to build low poly mesh in an open sim sandbox so my avatar can be in the builds and interact with them, others can join the sandbox and build collaboratively, and still get some great photo realistic environments (granted, not full HD level so far) for whatever purpose.
