@@AlphaOmega1237 it could be used as an offensive tool, since iirc some counterattacks involve batting the enemy's blade away before a riposte if there was suddenly no blade to parry, they could go off balance which could be a free attack though it's definitely a gamble as the other guy can just swing directly at their opponent as the parry. if the technique user guesses incorrectly, they gamble their head away

⁠@@AlphaOmega1237 If someone is swinging directly at you like you say and you block, they now have to push against your saber to avoid you slipping past and cutting them instead, so that is when you turn it off to make them shift their weight awkwardly.

Was used in the books by one of Luke's jedi, only his lightsaber had a button to switch to a longer blade. So he turns it off then swaps to the longer blade aiming directly at the opponent.

@@DrGandW Lightsabers are weapons that kill or cripple on contact. There's no reason to put your entire weight into swinging them like you would a real sword. Light swings or thrusts would be the way to fight. Arguably, this method would give another reason for people not to throw all their weight into a clash. So yeah, this only works because of bad fight choreography that has characters doing dumb stuff with their weapons.

Would've loved to see Obi use this against Grievous, like he turns on all 4 of his lightsabers while they're still attached to Grievous' hips, or he's spinning them and he turns all of them off so the wooshing noise of the blades cutting air gets replaced by the awkward sound of metal wrists spinning.

Never got why he's even a threat. He can't use the Force so just grab him with it and smack him around. Introduce him to the wall, ceiling, your lightsaber, etc.

honestly the reveal that Darth Vader turned off Obi Wan's lightsaber instead of Obi just turning it off was the greatest plot twist of all time

I do not know what sort of dark corcery you've used to make them sound so much like the og movies but this is literally insane. I choked down and laughed out loud way too many times. The subtlety of these lines kills me. Like, Anakin is just fucking around because he’s Anakin, but at 2:00 he’s so happy that Obi-Wan accepted his idea. The tragedy of their failed relationship haunts me.

Anakin’s comment about “not holding attachments” to the traditional curriculum is actually pretty deep when you think about it. Focusing on old tradition and turning a blind eye to the new and ever expanding world can be seen as a self-imposed hindrance harming growth.

Yeah, but these were not real fights. They were just dueling, so turning off your saber makes the other person fall and look clumsy. Turning off the other saber is best for a real fight

There is such as thing as sword fighting "from the bind", where you execute strikes/blocks from a starting position with the blades already touching each other. In such a situation, if you applied pressure just before turning off your lightsaber, then this could unbalance your opponent, assuming they countered by pushing back... However, it typically takes a few seconds to turn a lightsaber off and then back on again, which would leave you vulnerable, unless you had a backup weapon to hand.

02:26 To people not old enough this is the game released the same year when Episode 1 was about to be released, using the podrace from the movie as its theme. The visuals are dated today, but when it was launched is was insanely realistic compared to other games, and how good it was making playable what we saw in the movie ( there were man pods you could choose to use, not just the Anakin's pod ).

Movie Battles II, now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time

I never knew how bad I needed this series, it's hilarious and have binged a lot of vids since the first Obi-Wan vs Anakin. Ik you don't need us to tell you but keep up the fantastic comedic and animation work man. Loving every second of them lol🙏🔥

This is one of the few things on the entire internet I can watch back to back to back and still laugh hysterically every time - a true masterpiece.

I really like the way you play both characters, but especially Anakin. The body language is perfect. The way he seems calm (almost bored) and seems show the proper respect to his master, but the head tilt and slight smirk hint at his haughtiness and irreverence; he's only playing the part of the respectful student, while really planning some Anakin shenanigans. It's playful and mischievous, but also hints at some level of contempt for the council and its rules, for Obi-wan, and perhaps the Jedi as a whole. There's a bit of darkness there.

The facial expressions of the characters and the "thud" of yoda smacking the ground is priceless.

The Yoda "Arrrrrrggghhhh" always makes me laugh because of the sound+visual when he falls in such a silly way.

The subtle Lego Obi Wan death sound at 3:44 was a great touch lol

4:23 to 4:35 felt VERY much like an actual Anakin / Obi-Wan interaction. Love it.

I love how calm obi Wan is no matter how messed up the situation is 😂😂😂

this channel is probably the best out of all the "joel haver rotoscope" derivatives, and i mean that as the best possible compliment i can give

But the way he points at his surroundings makes it definitely sound like he’s referring to the terrain. And then Anakin tries to jump OVER him to get on level ground when he could’ve, you know, just taken a step forward to get off the lava. So I can’t imagine what else he meant except having higher elevation

Watching everything back to back and seeing how flawlessly they follow each other, how perfect Obi-wan & Anakin's relationship is characterized, and how these techniques effected the original trilogy is absurdly perfect! Your comedic timing is spot on too. Love your videos stay safe out there :)

Loved it. The yoda scene was hilarious, and the “is Mace going to be there” was a great follow-up. MW is insufferable in the trilogy - you know the others had to be complaining about him ‘off camera’ so it fits well here.

Fantastic work, I love the transitions you did, it really ties all of them together. These always give me the best laughs.

I like the two added scenes that i 5at least noticed.. Yoda at the medic and the younglings below obi as his sanbers turn on

Fun fact: turning your own lightsaber off is pretty much a war crime to every force user but turning off your opponents lightsaber is perfectly fine and it’s actually been done before somewhere in the clone wars show. Only reason why lightsaber weilders don’t do that often is because apparently you need to have both hands on the lightsaber so that way it’s a fair fight and noone yeets their combatant into the stratosphere.

Neither fun nor a fact.

When fighting you aren't trying to hit your opponants saber, your trying to hit them. You don't put all your weight on the saber either. When you turn off your blade then your opponent's attack just isn't blocked and they go through to you.

Imagine KOTOR having this! Force Jam: prevents the next attack or block by the opponent. Force Disarm: removes the weapon from the enemy's hands. Force Misfire: enemy attacks themselves. Would this be a light side or dark side power though?
