Only in ep6 did this become really problematic, where they just scattered in the wilderness chasing the locals, instead of keeping formation. But this joke that all the disney star wars is built on and capitalised every oportunity and the 100th time they play the hit 2 stormtrooper helmet together and they feint bullshit is just too much already. @@dethhollow They hit the majority of their shots in engagements with people who don't have the Force protecting them. The Force is basically plot armour for Jedi, as long as they're focused and not fighting another Force sensitive, they have plot armour.

In Legends Stormtroopers are pretty precise, it's mostly contrivance that the heroes survived the OT. Now, in Disneyland... Let's just say the scene with the two Scout Troopers made me hate Mandalorian.

But I was actually thinking more of the Battle of the Forest Moon of Endor, when the empire's elite troops demonstrated utter incompetence in both organization and marksmanship. Han in the doorway is a particularly noteworthy example.

I actually like the idea of stormtroopers being super frightening and the protagonists have to hide and avoid them, trying to destroy the Death Star on a suicide mission and a bunch of main characters die along the way

Rogue One. You want Rogue One. Besides, in ESB and ANH it actually makes sense, they want to track the Falcon to the Rebel base, and Obi-Wan actually does die on the Death Star, admittedly to Darth Vader, not stormtroopers. In ESB they want to torture Luke's friends to draw him to Cloud City, and Vader doesn't want Luke dead. He also wants to test the carbonate freezing on Han. In RotJ, I don't know. But keep in mind they had captured the Rebels before the Ewoks attacked, and after that there are hundreds of little furry targets to aim at, and they use natural cover and camouflage where possible. Maybe they wanted the Rebels alive there, too, though it's not explicitly stated in the film, so...eh, harder to explain. ANH and ESB make sense, though.

@@spiffygonzales5160 The people who wrote those books understood how to make "elite" units ELITE. Even early on, in the Thrawn trilogy, the Grand Admiral refers to stormtroopers as being "in short supply" and IIRC even hints at them being among the most skilled units the Empire has.

i mean yeah the stormtroopers were canonically really accurate and they even explained that in the death star the troopers were told to intentionally miss because they wanted to follow the millennium falcon to the rebel base

I'd just question how they found Yoda though to be honest, but then again maybe having 20/20 vision seeing things on their satellites or radars is just that much easier.
