That's because he makes it look as easy as falling off a log, because he is GOOD! In my experience its much more challenging when a beginner gets those tools in their hand, lol. (ME)

excellent video.. wish he explained the speed throughout.
This was really pleasant to watch - though I could totally see myself whittling away a block of wood to nothing, just to watch the cool effects.
Exceptional instruction! I’ve turned pens and smaller stuff but am definitely going to apply your video to start turning bowls!
Made a weird mistake today turning my first bowl that scared me from pursuing. Watching this made me feel more relaxt to finish my bowl tommorow!
I'll be getting my first lathe early next year so I'm soaking up as many videos as possible and this was really helpful. Thank you!

Right with you .
love the way you show. one of the best videos of most woodworking that I have seen
...not sure if I have enough years left to get to your skill level---LOL---, great job, thanks,
Very helpful, thank you. Made my first bowl. It's a little heavy on the bottom but I can only get better from here.
These videos are so much more useful for beginners than watching people showing off decades of skill-building!
Brilliant video. Working on my second piece of turning today. First piece was a flower vase turned out OK. Starting on my bowl today.
can we talk about how much control you have? unbelievable.
One of the reasons I stuck around was because of the music. Great video.
Great video mate, sheesh! You made it look --SO EASY, and haha, I'm not feeling that confident yet lol
I've had my lathe for several years, and have turned a couple hundred pens with it, as well as other small objects. I've always been hesitant to try a bowl though. This video walked my right through my first attempt, and now I have a nice little bowl to put my keys and loose change in, and also the confidence to try bigger, and fancier bowls. Thanks!
Great video with clear and concise steps. The production quality was well done as well. THANKS!!!
Very nice starting video , well explained, thanks

Great video, easy to follow, clear guidance on th epositioning of the gouge. Thanks
Great video. Thank you!
Great video. The only thing I would add is showing the tool a bit more to show which tool you are using. I literally just bought a lathe, so soaking it all in.

Thanks for sharing. Good health to you
Perfect timing of these videos, I have a date to start the build of my workshop and now have to decide which Lathe, I'm torn between the AT460WL and the AT508WL.

Very informative video. Thanks for sharing it.
Great video, you make it look so easy, yet I find bowl cutting quite frightening, especially when the tool catches inside the bowl

You made that look easy. Thanks

I've done a fair amount of spindle turning, but never any bowls. Bought a decent lathe recently that came with a nice chuck and a bunch of other extras. I've watched dozens of bowl turning videos that SHOWED the turning of the mortise with which to mount the bowl to the chuck, but did not EXPLAIN anything. This is the first I've watched that does that, so thanks!
Thank you 👍👍👍
EXCELLENT video.
This is the BEST step by step video I have come across! Awesome teaching. I will follow this step by step!

Hi Barnowl1950, we are glad you found this video useful. Happy turning!
I have a mini lathe and I’m just learning to use it. I want my first project to be a bowl and your video is extremely helpful. Eventually I want to learn to use epoxy in my woodworking so it looks like lines of turquoise running through things.

@@axminster any type of wood can be used??
made it look so easy. great vid.
Watching your video I'm reminded of how important it is to master and stick to the basics. I've done mostly spindle turning. My lathe is a 1950's era cast iron unit, eight inches center over ways, 36" between centers, all in excellent condition. I built the stand, suffice it to say the stand is quite heavy and quite sturdy. At a thrift store I bought an old treadmill, quite a good one for $40. I salvaged a Leeson three horse power DC motor out of it. I did spend $115 on a variable speed controller. So my lathe is infinitely variable speed from five to thirty-two hundred RPMs. I love it. My only complaint is that I wish it were bigger. I want to start bowl and vessel turning. Alas! small bowls. I'm two years from the start of the fourth quarter of my life so I've got plenty of time for a bigger lathe. I will say that when sanding I turn the lathe down to its slowest speed. Saves on sandpaper. Best regards young man!
You just answered all my questions thank you man! Im gonna have to get a chuck and faceplate
Just got my first lathe and this is my first video tutorial and will be the first thing I make! Thank you for the clear instructions! Kia Kaha! -from Aotearoa (New Zealand).

That is a great video. Well done.
I watched many lathe videos about bowl turning but I was getting very frustrated. I'm retired and I have no previous lathe instruction. This video with the faceplate ring was very helpfu[. I ordered the Axminister chuck system for my first project. I have also started using carbide tools and find turning with them very satisfying. Maybe some day I will try the bowl gouge like the video pros. The equipment cost and techniques required for for the pro tooling is prohibitive. Thanks for your practical and helpful videos!

Nice job
I bought an Axminster lathe 20 years ago but didn't give enough time to learning the skills. Bought some new tools and intend to restart the interest as I am that much older, have more time and we are hopefully post covid...ish. Thanks for the explanations.
Really nice video. Getting my first lathe in a couple of weeks and have really enjoyed all the videos. well done, keep them coming.

Did you get your lathe? What brand and tools did you get and how did they work for you? I am thinking of buying a lathe and tools myself. Just wondering what everyone is buying and how it worked out for them.
@samgraham9754

@@robertgarcia9070i know this is a late comment but my first lathe i bought a year ago is a Sealey SL1000, cost me £150 2nd hand, does the job although only 2 speeds, i don't find it an issue really. And tool wise - Robert Sorby - 6 piece turning tool set it's called, and also recommend the Robert Sorby ProEdge for sharpening with a long grind jig.
Super nice
Very nice.
I'm having a lot of issue with mine at the moment. After checking it over (it's roughly made in the 60s) it looks like a worn out bearing that allows a slight vibration. No matter how delicate I am it would skip and gouge. I'm hoping that it's the only issue. I didn't have a problem turning the outer shape. Just the interior shape.
Excellent, very well explained and I feel like a learned a lot from this video.
