It's the edge, the apogee of that desert launch that began with Kyuss. It leans in for a kiss and gives you a knuckle sandwich and a mouthful of broken glass. I hear Crooked Vultures in this album more than the others too. Post-Vulgaris, it's as though QOTSA revived a creaky-hipped Elvis and re-slicked his hair.
Joey plays the drums like he's in bar fight....and that's a compliment.

Think the problem with Era Vulgaris is some of the songs take a while to "get going". A lot of Fairweather QOTSA fans just listened to 3's and 7's and "make it wit chu" and said that's enough. Personally, I love the throwing around of the guitar sounds. It's an absolute fucking mess but it's an absolute fucking masterpiece from the band
I admire bands that can perform their songs just like the album version.
@kalebevans2846

It often has to do with how produced the songs are. The Queens rely on their instruments a lot, so it's easy to make a live performance sound just like intended. It's definitely a bonus that Josh's voice has held up over the years.

I love so much that Michael Shuman can make such a sweet voice while shouting "Yeah!" like the rockstar he is in Millionaire.
The groove...the guitar licks...the beautiful noise...the weird, massive, sublime, psychedelic, and irresistible energy these fellas deliver. Wow! Like no other musicians on this planet. Josh Homme must have loved "Mass Production", "Funtime", "Nightclubbing" and "Calling Sister Midnight" on Iggy Pop's iconic "The Idiot" album given how the vibe and energy in "Turnin' On The Screw" are connected to those classics. Not ripped off...just beautifully and tastefully inspired by. Who needs drugs when you have QOTSA...?
qotsa's uniqueness is just something else dude
My favourite QOTSA song. I cannot fathom how one would write and arrage this masterpiece. Its the quintessential Queens song and love how it spills into Sick Sick Sick as well
Josh is great! Laying down the tracks effortlessly while dressed like he just walked in the mall.
Just think, if Elvis never morphed into a big ginger bully we'd never know the glory of qotsa
to sing and play that rhytm on the guitar in parallel shows how much time he puts into practicing to build up that muscle memory. respect josh

Yeah and believe it or not there’s actually QOTSA fans out there who like to try n say that his timing was always off when they played a live show, usually it’s “oh, Joey’s playing too fast again!” Bunch of bozos n their bullsh*t! As far as I’m concerned, Joey Castillo, this drummer here... is (well sorry I mean) was the best QOTSA drummer that’s ever been in the band! ....and NO! For those of ya out there who I know will immediately try to argue that w/1 name...
