I am a mechanical engineer and this has always motivated me to overly complexificate my technical writing. Why say column when you can say vertical structural member. Why say screw when you can say helically threaded fastener with female hexagonal socket. It makes the normal people think you are crazy. It is so much fun.

I must respectfully question your claimed mechanical engineering credentials, Sir. A helically threaded fastener that mates up with a female hexagonal socket is commonly known as a bolt, not a screw. I sincerely hope that no one ends up getting hurt if reading your carelessly worded comment leads to some kind of boltup.

@@ledchickenfpv7164 I went to a state school so you are right to question my credentials. However you can have a 1/4-20 SHCS UNC 2B (socket head cap screw, coarse thread, 2b fit which I dont care enough about to look up) or a 1/4-20 FHCS (flat head) but if you put a hex head on that same threaded fastener, you then, my friend, have a bolt. I am open to being corrected and told how my knowledge of nuts and bolts is flawed.

In my days at Ford as a video director we recorded Bud doing this more than once over the years. It's great to see this on KZread recorded by someone at Chrysler. Bud Haggard was and still is a legend. I grew up as a child hearing his voice on educational films. On of my early days at Ford I heard his voice over the studio control system and chills went up my spine. It was like hearing your Dad's voice after so many years. I met him and over the following years hired him many times. He was always the consummate professional, and he could make anything sound authentic on the first read. A great talent.
