Tunai Firefly Bluetooth Music Receiver - SAAB NG9-3 TurboX

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hey Guys,
Finally it was time to get rid of the cheap bluetooth music receiver and my chunky ground isolator in the TurboX. In this video I unbox and take a look at the Tunai Firefly bluetooth device. Installing it in the car with a short demo. Sounds pretty good..

    your second view was by a saab ;) choochoo brother. also might I recommend android head units. i slapped one in this and it's awesome, you can even get a cheap bluetooth obd thingy and have a built in code reader essentially. they're getting cheap too. mine was like 250 usd with a backup camera. it also frees up a bunch of space in the radio cavity if you want to go crazy with rcas and amps

    Next, you need some hi-resolution music files on your phone (24bit/96khz) you can purchase online, so you can enjoy the full potential of the firefly device.

    It would be really great to have something like this hidden in the car completely. And maybe even with the NFC function, just "touch" with the phone on the right spot on the car and it'll pair itself, only when you want it (means you don't need to have BT always on, just turns on and pairs because of NFC "wakeup"). This is at least my plan in theory, but same like you, too many little projects here and there and unable to research this in time :D so then I end up with similar temporary solutions :D

    I guess Ruud's solution is probably the closest to a clean hidden BT receiver having it built into the unit. I would probably send my unit to Ruud some day when it's out of the car for some reason and have his solution :)

    Can you explain how you connected the original aux armrest ?

  • @TechCars

    @TechCars

    3 жыл бұрын

    Sure! There's a small clip in the video showing the nav unit with a angled connecter with a flat cable. That goes behind the nav unit and down. Then behind the plastics on the passenger side up to the original place in the armrest. I took the original cable for aux 03-06 and modified it. Soldered the new cable onto that and that's all I had to do. Extremely neat solution. I bought the flat cable on ebay. I did this several years ago. Maybe 5 years. BR Markus

    I purchased 3 different versions of this Firefly device, the Firefly, the Firefly LDAC, and the Firefly CHAT LDAC. The Firefly model connects with NO BASS in the sound. The Firefly CHAT initially connected with NO BASS in the sound, but then after running the app and updating it's firmware, it connected with full high fidelity sound, but then after subsequent disconnect/reconnects, it would connect with no bass again. The Firefly LDAC was the same. It keeps connecting with some bluetooth connection type that sounds like a phone call. The Firefly model connects with NO BASS ever. I tried emailing Tunai using the email on google play, but it bounces back saying it's not a working email address. I can't recommend that anyone buy these things. I had to return all three.

    @@TechCars i'm still in the process of buying and testing. i really wanted the Firefly LDAC to work. Ironically, last night, while driving to the store with my daughter, i literally had just finished telling her that the non-LDAC Firefly was ONLY connecting in the NO-BASS connection type [i still don't know what causes it], and for the first time since i received it a few days ago, it connected with some bass. It makes me wonder if there's a thing like WiFi where, as you approach the car, and are say 30 ft away, it connects, but it knows the connection is very weak from being so far away, so it establishes a lowered bandwidth connection, then never re-negotiates a better one.

    There is a so much more nicer solution I built inside the Navi or radio unit . No chargers no wires and continues to play even when you take the ignition off ( key in slot ) like the Navi/ radio. Downside is I need the unit to built it inside 😬

    While not the best device, the Crux BTS-GM1X is a far better solution for this in my opinion (if you have nav as it only works with nav). not sure how your aux port is in the center dash, I wish it was still there for mine, but for us folks who hate wires, have to have something dangling in the front.

    Why would you do this when you can buy a bluetooth FM transmitter off ebay for $5? Plug it into you cigarette lighter, tune an FM frequency and you instantly have bluetooth music and hands free calls, thousands of songs from the SD card etc. I know you're probably being sponsored for this video and got it free to review but this is an expensive and silly way to add bluetooth to a car.

    FM transmitter means the signal is sent wireless two times, rather than one, and that creates extra noise and signal loss. This will be a much better solution for sound quality
