That is so interesting! The htv looked beautiful over the micahols. I think it looks beautiful. I wonder if the cup completely cooled down in between each press if that would have different results. 🤔 I can’t believe people get upset when it doesn’t always work out.. isn’t that how we learn?

Thank you!! That’s a good point about letting the cup cool. Plus, if I tried it on a 20-oz or smaller cup so no need to press 4 times, that might work also. Hmmmm, maybe I’m not totally done with this experiment after all. 🤔😁

I am absolutely fascinated and surprised that it cracked probably just a pressure issue from the press on the larger cup not being 2 passes. It was beautiful anyways. I think the experimental videos are incredibly important, you and I both show the good and bad and the fixes when it goes sideways. We learn together! Someone has to try it and seeing if it does or doesn't work helps us all! So thank you for always being willing to experiment! Never a waste of time!

Anybody else hold their breath, waiting for the results? No, just me? I was anticipating the htv to stick and the resin to string, as you peeled the cover sheet back. This is a great testament to the integrity of the resin though. Between heat and pressure, it didn't disintegrate. Thanks for always being willing to try new things🙂💜 **Hats off to you for weeding that design!! I was like....nahh.

Thank you!! 🤣🤣 For some reason, I don’t mind weeding htv, even though I absolutely hate weeding regular adhesive vinyl (why I will never do a mandala decal).

I thought that first "oh wow!" was because it was pretty - and then you showed the cracks! Yikes. Thank you for doing these experiments for us so we don't have to 🤣 To be fair, even with the cracks, it is pretty.

I did something like this - instead of using a press or cricut’s mini press, I used a heat gun like for embossing powders… But I haven’t done a full tumbler wrap, just htv over resin. I have used a heavier duty heat gun to strip cups - the resin will peel off. But that is still a beautiful cup! Rose gold is a favorite! But you do a lot of my favorite things! Thank you for sharing the experiment!

My theory would be that the resin isn't really the problem. I would expect the metal tumbler to expand when heated. This expansion, in addition to possible deformation from the pressing, could cause the resin shell to crack. Great experiment though. Thanks!

I've used HTV to place a name onto a resin tumbler. I used my heat gun and the follow up with my small easy press. It turned out great. I also sealed before I put resin on as my final coat.

Ya, I would think. Like some others have said, that the stainless may have expanded so maybe less pressure if you try again and then either less heat or let it cool down between presses. The residual heat in the stainless probably makes it more than the 500* threshold with so many presses. It is a beautiful cup none the less! Thanks for always experimenting, it's fun to watch!

well Dang it... thanks for trying. wondering about the resin over the cracks. Would like to know. I'm continuing to watch... I was thinking or wondering if a seal would've helped. or if you the layer of epoxy sealed it. well shoot. but I appreciate the experiment. I still think its a beautiful cup.

Thank you!!! Yeah, I don't even know how I'd go about testing the "integrity" of the cover layers to know if the cup is safe...

I just did this last week-(literally first time using htv on anything!) I used a mini travel iron to "iron" my glitter htv onto my epoxied tumbler. Turned out great. I had also use MNG Glass Coat on it for the resin.

I like your experiments. I would rather see you try it out than me try it out. The vinyl is really pretty over the colors but I wouldn’t do it again. I use a heat gun for my hav and it works perfectly fine.

I think the experiment was interesting. I don’t make tumblers but I wanted to know as well. I enjoy all your videos and experiments. I say if you want go ahead try again with a variation to the process and see what happens. I am always curious about outcomes. The cup is lovely and probably if you didn’t know the cracks were there you just wouldn’t notice and wonder. I thought the resin would have just been sticky all over myself.

I’m very glad you did this, I’ve been very curious about it. I wonder if you just tacked it like we do for shirts would work better, especially since you as I would have done, was gonna put epoxy over the vinyl

Interesting idea! I guess the problem was too many heat in the same area. Maybe if you let it cool a bit between rounds, and the most important part is to measure and divide the cup in half so you can heat one half first then move and do the other half, so this way it doesn’t get overheated and crack the resin. And maybe other thing could be less heat or less time like 350/10sec or 300/15sec

Thank you!! Yeah, it really does. If it I could somehow do it intentionally on a tumbler that would have some sort of graphic all over it like a cup full of ice tea or something, it would actually be pretty cool. Not sure I'd ever figure out how, though... 😁

@@Luxinda well you did say it was an experiment so try to duplicate it see if you can get that same crackle effect you know and then smooth in the cracks with resin after it happens so that way it's nice and smooth but you still have the look. I'm thinking maybe the Tumblr was made out of metal and then you put the resin on top of it and then you put it in the pressurizer to get the decal effects so maybe the pressure and the metal ...maybe the metal expanded and then the cooker thing pressed it and that cracked the resin so maybe give it a try and see if you can do it again on purpose but either way sell it. The crackles are amazing

Think if you did it by using your heat gun it would work over resin I’ve done that with htv make sure you have heat gloves or a towel cup will get hot!

The heat transfer vinyl, it that the really thick one that's really shiny and you cut and weed it color side down and then apply color side up? I have some and forgot how to use it😅

Yes, you’re cutting the vinyl which is on the back of the carrier sheet, so shiny side down on the cutting mat to cut, then weed, then apply to whatever surface shiny side up, heat press, and finally peel off the shiny carrier sheet. Hope that makes sense 😁

Great question!! There really isn’t an easy answer, because even resin labeled “non toxic” can still produce fumes that *some* people have an allergic reaction to. It’s not that the fumes are toxic; it’s that there’s something else triggering an allergic reaction. This isn’t a great analogy, but some folks are seriously allergic to poison Ivy, others are mildly allergic, others have no reaction at all even after walking through a patch of it. And since everyone is different, everyone can have a different reaction to resin fumes. To be safe, wearing a respirator is the way to go. If the fumes don’t bother you, then it’s totally your call. There are so many varying answers to this, but bottom line - everyone needs to make their own decision about how much PPE to wear. I’m sorry I can’t be more definitive.
