Yes, experienced the “stickiness” wearing the 58’s bracelet in hot, humid weather, so I switched out to a fabric strap for the summer. The bracelet does have more of a presence than the strap and might go back to the it in the winter, but the strap is so comfortable.

I have the Seiko SPB143. It was love at 1st site. Had to hunt it down for 6 months due to limited stocks because of the pandemic. I'm now guilty of wearing only the SPB143 since May of 2021.. my other seven dive watch are now relegated to being rotated on weekends. 🤣🤣

I would highly recommend the sbdx001/mm300 clasp for your seiko. It gets rid of the divers extension and it adds on the fly adjustment. It is a very easy modification and I am able to wear my spb149 in any weather thanks to the adjustable length of the clasp.

I very recently bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue on the steel bracelet to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've owned for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex Sub in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it when barely 40% of the retail price - go to an AD and try one on. In-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed. It's simply in a different league to the Seiko on all counts, particularly the movement accuracy, build QC and sheer class IMHO.

Tudor has nothing on Seiko as a watch brand. It may be trending now, but Seiko is an extremely important brand in horological industry. It is an independent brand (unlike Tudor), which builds their watches entirely in-house. Tudor is just sub brand (pun intended) of Rolex nowadays and is likely to stay that way. Nice watches, but for the price of Tudor I'd rather get a GS.

Great review, thanks! Both great watches for their price. On this particular model-line, Seiko did an amazing job. If this SPB had a Tudor logo on, would have increased the price to another level. Tudor has to improve their BB58 line and offer more color variants plus moving in the clasp from the BB58 bronze to all 58s (and not exploding their price to 4+K euros..). On the other hand: Seiko SPB145 line is not overpriced. You get a lot for your money.

@@jicalzad Interesting point; the parent company sticks with a known model lineup and only makes incremental changes. Is Tudor going to follow by holding onto the Black Bay over decades? Seiko takes a different approach again spreading the 62MAS re-editions across a range of price points with different movements (6r35/8L35) ; clever marketing selling a similar watch at such different price points. But I guess a seikoholic would recognise the more presitgous model.

BB58 sits small on your wrist, so you have a lot of strap on your skin. The larger Seiko case, means the strap falls vertical from the case without touching your skin and feels looser. You should try a regular BB.

I picked up the SPB213 when it was released in July, had it for 3 days and returned it. The bezel looked black most of the time and was way too shiny for my liking and not enough contrast between the dial and hands. I ended up going with the SPB143 and love the look with the grey dial, the only other version of this watch that I would have considered is the SPB149 which is hard to find and seems to hold it's value a bit better in the secondary market.

I went to my favorite seiko AD and looked at everything from $500 to $10,000. Most of them felt pretty similar, and I liked the $500 one the best (Monster). Aside from GS, they seemed pretty similar. I tend to agree with the BB58 complaints (Gilt gets old, blue is overdone). I love straps (and have a drawer full of unused straps). Its hard to put my finger on it, but the subtleties of the fit, finish, and proportions of the BB58, along with the sublime sizing really stuck with me. When they came out with the brushed case and grey dial BB58 - I had found my watch. No bracelet or flat case back on this one. No doubt the grey dial Seiko is good looking too.

Both looking good but the comparo stops here. The Tudor is in another league.

Tudor is the better watch. I own both and for me, the seiko is more tool watch and the Tudor is more sporty (if you have the blue one).

Steinhart is better than these two watches because it's more affordable and practically maintenance free. And it's Swiss.

Especially when that Seiko looks and performs exactly like their $450 watches. Only the biggest fans can tell a difference between their 56 different submariner style watches, that range from $250-1250.
