Tudor BB58 VS Seiko SPB143 | Best Heritage Diver?

Heritage divewatches are hugely popular. Two of the best options in two different price levels are the Tudor Black Bay 58 and the new Seiko Prospex SPB143. In this video I compare these two great divers.

Awesome video Anders; thank you. The Tudor BB has been on my want list for a long time; but the Seiko SPB147 (Brown and gilt dial) has me very interested. It is only available on a rubber strap, so is cheaper than the SPB143 and therefore even more within my reach.

From one dive nerd to another, I got into the watch game 2 yrs ago with my 1st Invicta pro diver. I was all things Invicta for a year until I started watching the numerous KZread channels on watch collectors. To say I'm in love with Seiko is an understatement. I just purchased my SKX009 2 weeks ago and I absolutely love it. I can't believe how my preference for watches quickly changed from Invicta which I rarely wear to Seiko. My wishlist is a King Seiko, Grand Seiko, and subsequently a Submariner date. Thanks for your reviews and I look forward to more video's in the future.

A good, fair comparison. While the Tudor has a nice finish, it is instructive that you're comparing it fitted with an aftermarket bracelet. That shouldn't be necessary on a $4k watch! The movement in the Tudor is a good one (Kenissi, assembled in house) but it's unproven and expensive to service compared to the previous ETA, or the Seiko. While Tudors do hold value well, it's the %age that counts and Seikos resell well. The Seiko is also a true dive watch, the Tudor more of a dive 'inspired' watch. I'd buy the Seiko and spend the change on a Longines.

I tried a few of my seiko divers’ bracelet upside-down before just like you. My reason was the problematic and mandatory diver extension does dig into the fore-side of my under-wrist. It was extremely uncomfortable to the point where I rather add more links on the 6 O’clock fore side and leave the bracelet claps dangling unevenly near the rear side(12 O’Clock) This would be my major complain of the Seiko bracelet. Personally I could careless about Tudor’s rivetted bracelet and would wear it as is, while I would definately consider Strapcode aftermarket bracelet for all Seiko divers with this poorly designed dive extension. Quite surpprise you are not mention about the Seiko bracelet issue at all in this video.

Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Initially I was excited about the Certina being Swiss made and includes a useful ratcheting diver's extension but was disappointed that the AD here at my place doesn't carry any of the models bearing the Nivachron hairspring which are quite new to the line. At this point, the only thing holding me from considering the SPBs is the accuracy. There's not much in the list but weighing on several factors/strengths each models possesses such as water resistance, luminosity, accuracy, antimagnetism, and even to the practicality of having on-the-fly adjustment, I'm still undecided 🤷‍♂️

As a bb58 owner I look at this and I genuinely prefer the modern look of the seiko and the colours, unfortunately all that means nothing when you have a 6.5 inch wrist and that chunk and size eats into your wrist. Anyone that's worn a 58 knows it just kinda melts into the wrist and that means everything

i have 6.5 inches wrist and own the spb143 Seiko. It fits perfectly with the bracelet although i changed the clasp to a smaller one. Also wearing it on an Uncle seiko waffle strap nowadays.

It depended on if I wanted to know the date. If I didn’t care it could be the Tudor. But the Seiko is on bracelet which would hold up better when fishing and cimbing after coconuts.

@@canonyeo4286 Seiko looks like a jewelry with blink blink. BB58 is a timepiece quality. You have to own both to identify the difference. BB58 is far superior watch. Don’t waste your money on SPB line up. You get what you pay for. If Seiko would use 8 series movement then only you can compare to BB58.

Seiko wins in the looks department. BB58 has arguably the better movement, and better fit and finish/ quality control. In terms of value for money, the Seiko can be found online for almost 1/3 the price of the Tudor. Is the Tudor three times as better as the Seiko? That's for prospective buyers to decide. With some aftermarket regulation by any decent watch technician the 6r35 movement can usually be brought to within a hair's breadth of the Tudor's performance (though unlikely to surpass or even equal it). In terms of many mid-tier Seikos notoriously inconsistent fit & finish/ QC issues, it's really the luck of the draw with each individual model.
