Damn that is good stuff.. I am an 83 year old jazz fan since 1945 when I heard some soldiers band playing after liberating us from the nazis.. Later I used to borrow 45 and 33 records from the USIS office and so came to North America well aware of this music... Never got tired of it...never will..

Wish I was younger and rich, I'd fly to Switzerland just to hear my favourite band.

This is one of the very first Tuba Skinny songs I ever heard and fell in love with and it never gets old. Glad to see Erika could make the tour. She and the band never sounded better. Thanks for sharing James!

I was there and enjoyed two extraordenly sets in Mari#ans Jazzroom (in the video I‘m the left back of the head in the front row 😃). Tuba Skinny at its best! After the show I was also able to get to know the extreamly friendly members of the band. Great people! It was a very special experience for me - and now I have a lasting memory with this video. Many thanks, Axel and James. Great to hear Tuba Skinny still playing this up-tempo 12-bar song with such vivacity thirteen years after they recorded it on their first album 'Tuba Skinny'. (They also recorded it again on their 'Pyramid Strut' album.) This song was composed in about 1928 by Spencer Williams and soon recorded by Margaret Webster - kzread.info/dash/bejne/mHqA18x7hKqec6g.html , followed by Bessie Smith. Highlights making this Bern performance rather special include the 4-bar Introduction (two each from Shaye and Barnabus) over the chord of F7th (00:11 - 00:15), leading naturally into the key of B flat for the first three choruses (00:16 - 00:28, 00:29 - 00:41 and 00:42 - 00:54) before Erika sings her two choruses. Then we have that extraordinary four-bar bridge - two bars each from Barnabus and Shaye (01:20 - 01:24), in which they again play around on the chord of F 7th, it seems, before launching into instrumental 12-bar solos. After Barnabus's two choruses, Craig plays his two against 'threes' (following the three-finger signal from Shaye). Shaye's own second chorus (02:27 - 02:39) is a gem - ostensibly simple-sounding yet so fluent. It is artistically brilliant and - in its final two bars - hands over exquisitely to Erika. I can't think of another cornet player who could produce such a perfect improvisation over the 12-bar chord progression. Interesting to compare this performance with their slightly less vivacious performance of the song a few days earlier in New Orleans, when Greg was the singer and they used the key of E flat: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dGegtK6Mc9Pefbw.html .

Pops Coffee's post giving us the more technical view of the song so clearly illustrates the very same subjects matter he's been talking about in recent weeks. It's a beautiful thing when so much come together in progression.

Check your KZread playback settings. Nothing wrong on my end. The tempo is a little faster than other versions of this but the recording sounds accurate.
