I have asked myself this question a lot of times, too. Why did so many things seem special and fun as a kid? Why is being grown up so boring!? And I don’t think it is because of work, bills and responsibilities. As a kid we also had to go to school , homework, good grades, the pressure. So why then!? And I think one of the biggest reasons is: we can have everything and do everything as an adult. We can watch TV whenever and whatever we like. Everything is available right now on Netflix etc. we can buy and eat any sweets. We can have sleepovers any time. So… nothing is special anymore. We don’t have to beg or wait for anything anymore… I think that is the problem. And we all know that according to science the instant availability… movies, photos, Amazon prime etc. doesn’t make people happy. On the contrary…

I choose the once a week delivery of Amazon items. Not only is the goid Gor the environment, but, I have something to wait for! Even if the b II x only gas peanut butter, shsmpoo, and a jar of pickles, I do look forward to the delivery. Instant gratification is not exciting. So. Yes, waiting is fun sometimes.

Hi Morgan, To help myself recover from depression I wrote down the letters of the alphabet and I found a fun activity to do for each letter and I called them "My Alphabet Adventures". It gave me purpose, focus and something to look forward to. Sometimes I was alone and sometimes with friends or family. Here's a few fun things I have done - 'A' walking with Alpacas at a local farm, 'B' a Beehive tour to learn more about Bees, 'H' High Tea w my daughter, 'K' took a Knitting class to learn how to make socks. (Also not always done in order - that was too hard!) Its taken me almost 2 years and I have 3 letters left. Once finished I'm going to make a photobook to look back on and to see how far I have come. I'm proud of me now! Keep looking and you'll find fun... xx

I struggle with lots of screen time too, and I used to feel a lot of guilt about it. But instead of telling myself I *need* to spend less time on my phone, I started just noticing it and asking myself what I’m really feeling in that moment. Usually I’m looking for connection, or procrastinating, or I want a hit of dopamine, or I’m anxious. Sometimes I’ve just finished a task and I need a little break, and that’s an okay time to scroll through social media! And since I started noticing, I find it easier to shift out of it instead of getting caught in an endless scroll, and I also don’t get upset at myself about it. Maybe this approach might help others too 💕

I just deleted my original comment lol after commenting that I don’t know what fun is. After contemplating this, I realize that fun for me is the mundane things, probably boring for some others. Baking cookies, making dinner, prepping breakfasts and lunches for the work week, reading with a cup of peppermint tea, decorating my home, even laundry and cleaning. Am I the only one who gets excited for new cleaning products?😂 I’m an introvert and after being so busy and socializing during the work week my absolute best weekends are the quiet ones that are spent at home with my family. I can’t think of anything better than all of us being home together on Sundays❤️ I hope you all enjoy your weekend doing whatever is fun for you😊

Ok but that quote about dancing is actually one of the most meaningful quotes in my life. I’ve had health problems for a large portion of my life, but they became really debilitating towards the end of my time in college and ever since then it’s been a very long road of limitations and struggling with everyday things. But one of the things that’s helped me get through the hard times aside from my faith in Jesus and and my family’s support is that quote and knowing that I was someone who took full advantage of every opportunity to have fun and live my life when I was physically able to

I feel like we are very much in the same phase of life. It's very comforting to hear you talk about it. I turned 30 at the end of last year, and I'm really trying to follow the trend or saying that is floating around at the moment. "Being in your 30s is just doing all things you loved to do when you were a kid but without shame" So climbing things, going on any playground or swing set I come across, reading books, dancing in the kitchen. And rewatching all those classic early 2000s teen movies.

I was with you when you said you're not sure what's fun - but then nearly everything you listed on your list I realized are all the things I love doing too! Sometimes I think we forget that sometimes the simple things are the fun things - we work so hard trying to impress others, either on the internet or in real life - for example when we get back to work after weekend & colleagues ask what did you do over weekend? If you haven't gone somewhere or done anything incredibly exciting - it starts to feel like I'm a bit dull. I'm a home person and I love nothing more than, taking my dog for walks, potting in the garden (when he weather is nice), reading, listening to an audiobook, baking, or sat illustrating to me that's a good weekend. We should all do more of what we love.

I love your comment❤️ I relate so much to what you said about being a home person. I love being home and just spending time reading, cooking, baking, and just relaxing in general. I’m with you when I get to work on Monday and everyone asks how my weekend was and what I did. I tell them the truth that I just enjoyed being home with my family. And the truth is that is what I truly enjoy. But, I do often feel judged because everyone else seems to be going out to restaurants, movies, tourist attractions. I’ve learned to not let it bother me though because I need my downtime and it sounds exhausting sometimes listening to everyone’s whirlwind of a weekend. I choose to have no social media as well other than my KZread account because I never want to feel like I have to keep up with the Jones’. I know it’s just better overall for my own mental health. I’m trying so hard to instill a simple happy life into my kids as well😊

At first I really didn’t see the point but it is a stress reliever for me and I write my thoughts and joys of that season. So I can always refer back to them. It’s something just for me. Tips: If you're a very self aware of...how sometimes, it could be beyond bearable, the ridiculousness to dance alone or by yourself, I recommend you to close your eyes. And of course, this come without saying, find a spacious area for it.

By mid July I'm about burnt out on the whole garden thing and want it all do die. 😆 So one morning instead of working on it I pull out my vintage webbed aluminum lounger and sit in thr shade of our garden shed and drink my coffee. I just ignore the garden completely. I'll read and listen to the birds chirping away. Recently my husband and I went to a free comedy show put on by a local church. They hosted Fred Klett and his son Gus. Fred and others are on the youtube channel Dry Bar comedy. Very clean and all hilarious. It's nice to be reminded that every day things can be full of laughter if we just view them from a different perspective.

Setting aside any mental health issues, I think people confuse “fun” with “self improvement.” I think a lot of self improvement comes from a capitalism mindset- always working to be “better” or be the kind of person one wishes they were (e.g, someone who journals, someone who hikes, etc.), and I think a lot of “routines” or “resets” feed this idea of being efficient and productive humans. If a person wants to do a self improvement activity then go for it, but I think it’s helpful to be aware of why, and to notice that self improvement activities are not necessarily equal to something one finds fun. My job and life obligations put enough pressure on me, so I try not to put extra pressure on myself to “improve” cause being me is not a job to perfect. When I’m talking about self improvement I don’t mean things like being kinder, more patient, more compassionate, I’m talking about some of the stereotypes we see online like people who have extravagant routines (journaling, meditation, daily walks, meal prepping, etc.)- feeling satisfied that I finished a big project at work feels pretty similar to me to those rare times I get up early and “accomplish” a lot of personal tasks I’ve assigned myself (which I find exhausting and hard to stick to). I’ve found it helpful to interrogate which of my goals are truly fun versus trying merely to be a certain kind of person or being a “better” person, which I think is work disguised as fun.

I’m all about productivity so I have to-do lists, and when I’m done, I read! My social media is limited to 30 mins/day with scrolling (fb and insta combined, 15 mins each). Once my time limit is up (which you can set on your phone), I do something else! Time limits are so helpful. There’s no need to feel guilty about scrolling, since you know the time will go by quick. Plus, creative people can influence us for the better on social media. I’m grateful for it. It’s also a creativity outlet for me. But management of time on it is what’s important! I also don’t watch much tv, just a few subscriptions to keep up with on KZread (: I do spend a lot of time on my todo lists, but I always enjoy a moment where I can just sit and read a good book! Highly recommend The Inheritance Games; it got me back into reading for fun!

You are so right when you made the point about making the list should be fun and not perfect. Fun comes so naturally when you’re younger because there’s no self-judgement and when you grow up it is so easy to suddenly start critiquing and comparing the things that you do that it takes the joy out of them. This video is a good reminder that the goal should be to just have a good time, rather than to make something perfect 😊❤

I think I kept that childhood fun trait because my dad is fun and a bit silly even in old age. The hard thing is the ‘grown up’s’ around who are dismayed when you fling your arms open at a beautiful view or question why you are painting a lamp pink. Oh well. I just smile and do it. It helps to counteract the grown-upy sad times.

What a beautiful video! So, my idea is not “fun” but hear me out. 😄. They gym is amazing self care!!! It’s changed my life. Seasonal affected disorder, depression and anxiety pretty much gone. It’s very meditative. Lifting weights, I use machines. Not barbells. They relax my body and when I am taking special extra care of myself I visit the heated therapy pool or hot tub. I listen to audiobooks while working out. I also love going to little free libraries! The thrill of the hunt! For my daily spiritual practice I use oracle cards. Please look into them. I’ve asked you before about it. You should make a deck. You were made to do it! I’ll buy it!!! We could all use a daily dose of Morgan’s Magic. ✨

Thank you for your video Morgan ❤️ I have felt this way a lot recently, especially someone who works from home, I feel like you actively have to think of new activities, or plan out things for after work to liven up the day. I know for me things like Zumba or walking in nature first thing in the morning brings me joy❤️ times when I don't feel stressed or feel like I have to be productive when doing activities (which seems to creep in a lot!), I love writing, reading a good book, baking a new recipe, learning a new language, finding a new craft on Pinterest and making a gift for a friend❤️ if you have a sunny day, just sitting on the grass feeling the sun is fab! I think part of the struggle with fun is somehow thinking it's not fun enough. I'll sit down to do an activity I think will be fun, but somehow feel like whatever it is, it is not a good enough use of my free time. I should be doing something more. It's like we are measuring fun by some invisible standard that will be ruled by some invisible authority who will tell you "Well you wasted your time". Kids don't have this. I had a child tell me "I like what I like because I like it" no other reasoning needed! It kind of blew my mind how I had lost that simplicity in joy. Again the timing of this video could not be more perfect ❤. Thank you for always sharing your ups and downs.

I struggle with this as well, particularly with my anxiety and depression it makes it really hard. But I remember when I was a kid I felt euphoria just from running down the street on a sunny day or something like that. It's tricky because now I'm too much in my head a lot of the time. I have to try hard to kind of ground myself in the moment and make something special out of it.

I love this idea of making sure to find time for FUN. And you’ve inspired me to try and add it to my schedule as well. 💙 so, this is me coming up with the things that I find fun and sharing with you in case any of them sound good for you! - DANCING. throwing on some upbeat songs that always make me smile. And just moving like a maniac around the room, not caring what I look like at all! - The most ridiculous of silly things: look in the mirror and make absurdly wild faces at myself. I try to find new ways to move my face muscles to create new crazy faces - I laugh SO. MUCH. I usually laugh until I cry. And that feels amazing. - thinking of things I loved as a kid: watching a movie I used to love and haven’t seen in a long time, or making a childhood favorite meal. - Finding a new way to get comfy in your own home. Kind of similar to when you made your living room fort, sometimes I will drag my bed mattress into the living room and pile it with blankets and pillows and have a sleepover in my own house! Even if it’s just me, like every other night, it feels exciting and new and sooo cozy. Thanks for always being authentic with us, Mo. It’s an honor to know you. 💜💜💜

This is a precious video, Morgan. I think I have never commented since I don't think I have nothing to say. But I had myself struggled with this idea of 'how is that I cannot find joy so easily, as I did a few years ago.' It also feels like none of your former hobbies gives you the same solace as they used to. And it is all soooooo frustrating that sometimes I truly think I need help of some kind. Making lists and finding myself excited for things to do is helping me so much, I think! But also seeing people going through the same things without feeling hopeless is just invaluable. Thanks!

My brain was just like.. but but but you just went to a park to randomly enjoy the sunset and kick a ball around with friends and eat pizza?! And you have a flipping /sunset/ bottle!? Hello, Morgan! It's funny, I've been thinking about this topic too recently. One day like a month ago I had the urge to sit down and write a list of ALL the things I enjoy doing, just to remind myself of them, to be aware. I have so many hobbies and interests that I often forget them! So write I did. And then for the past few months I've been having that nagging feeling, that I'm not actually having fun with anything I do. I mean, I can keep busy, distracted and entertained on a daily basis, yes but... am I having fun? Nope. I'm bored of doing the same things, on my own, over and over (reading mostly, watching youtube, taking photos, journaling, walking). I need some real fun, laughter, excitement, and I'm not finding them. One of the things that I feel is the most fun is taking dance lessons. I love dancing, learning coreography, dancing with others... But lately it's been very hard to find those lessons. People my age (43) here don't go to a dance class, only kids do. So... I totally understand your concern. And I wish both of us can find an answer soon! Also, don't worry about making super exciting and creative videos, just a weekly vlog, of your normal life would still be lovely

Things that are fun are things I can choose to do or not do. If you are forced to do it, it can feel like work. I've also been spending time in the garden. It's nice to literally touch grass sometimes 😊

Here's some fun ideas off the top of my head, I might share more if I think of them. I'm enjoying reading comments others have left behind for ideas. 😊 Thanks for ✨️fun✨️ video Morgan! One of the things I did last spring with my baby is I intentionally went outside in my backyard with a little white basket and picked flowers. Dandelions, lilacs, crab apple blossoms, daffodils, etc... And took a bunch of pictures for memories. I look back on those pictures so fondly. It was such a random simple happy memory. Easy fun! Another fun thing is I get away for one night a week to do some art with a friend at her house. She shares her clay and we make little animal characters. We also tend to spring for some yummy takeout or eat charcuterie, and go on a hike together. Most recently I discovered she hasn't seen Gravity Falls so I totally want to bring my tablet over so we can watch a couple episodes while arting! 🤩 Before my husband and I had our baby, we used to leave post it notes in secret places throughout the house (we each had a different color) and it would either be a cute loving message orrrrr something spicy. 👀 We got creative with 'tasks' the finder had to do upon finding the card. My favorite ones typically involved some form of roleplay. 🤣 Or it would be a date day prompt! It was great fun and just added something exciting and random to the normal humdrum that life could become. Honestly I miss it, we ought to start it up again. 😆 Oh... editing to add with the post it notes.. we each started with ten and if I were to find one of his, I got to hide a new one, and vice versa if he found one of mine - that way it was always a rotating game and kept the playing field even. I seriously recommend it! 😆

The best thing I ever did was take all the apps off my phone. I find I'm struggling with one of the more public facing symptoms of depression...Anger. A constant state of simmering rage. The crying side of it no one sees. Nor the days I lay in bed and watch the leaves of the trees. So since I live in an RV I am going to leave this driveway I've been renting....seek out nature. I'm taking all my art supplies, about 1000 TBRs on my kindle, a Murdle book of puzzles, 5 word search books, and I think I'll splurge on a solo player board game. On to adventure! Ps: re merch. I'd love a zipup hoodie because round collars feel chokey to me...any hope of zip ups in the future?

Something I started doing to change my attitude towards boring things like dishes in laundry. Vacuuming I start praising God and thanking him that I have dishes to clean because we have food on the table that I have a working vacuum that I have to vacuum because I have healthy animals that I have clothes to fold because I have healthy family members. I have clean full clothes because my washer and dryer are working. And I just pray and thank him for those things and or I will worship him by listening to a worship song. I used to have severe CPTSD I went through a 12-step program that was christ-centered and my life has never been the same. I'm so much happier now and I want other people to know this happiness too. Even if you intentionally try to limit time spent on your phone the temptation is always there and I always end up giving in and then feel terrible afterwards. I told her I wish I could just completely get rid of it then the problem is solved.....
