I hadn't watched SNL is quite a while so this is the first time I'm seeing this new guy play Trump. He is without a doubt, the single best impersonator I have ever seen. Previously my favorite was Darrell Hammond, but I just gotta admit it, this dude is an absolute MONSTER.

His accuracy in the trump voice is incredible and uncanny!

The only thing I'll miss are these terrific routines, when flumpy goes off to prison and gradually fades into obscurity... yeah, I know he is destined to be the punch line in political jokes forever more.

This was absolutely stellar! The cold opening goes down as one of the all time best --- in every way! Superb! SNL at its very best!

@@johnfury8834 I understood what you meant. And I agree. The best impersonators know how to do both Trumps: 1. Teleprompter trump and 2. off the cuff trump. They’re not just different in content but the tone and mannerisms are also different.

This was honestly brilliant comedy, and I think this might be one of the strongest opens I’ve seen in years. This season of SNL has seriously renewed my excitement for this show. I think this is the best cast they’ve had in a while, and the writing has been very good.

Pretty sure this was the most I've ever laughed for an SNL cold open. Beautiful. Especially loved seeing Mikey Day trying so hard to not crack. Amazing!

Underrated joke alert: "Even on his birthday, Easter" I think that joke gets missed by a lot of people because the whole sketch is just sheer ridiculousness

These James Austin Trump cold opens are absolutely epic tier. I haven't laughed so hard watching SNL since the 90s/early 2000s. This season was expected to be such a lull, but the writers and cast are CRUSHING IT!

Sometimes the Sketch "misses" the mark, but the Show has an ability to constantly "reinvent" itself each week, with a new host and then every few years, with a new Cast. For nearly Half a Century, SNL has been a part of my Weekend. Imagine a three or four hour "SNL Reunion" with Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy, etc? Imagine all the SNL Stars from nearly 50 years in ONE show? What about it Lorne Michaels?

Oh my word I don't know where to begin. Perfection. Holy crap. Pretended to like him? Gays out of Disney? Nepo baby? Birthday? Sex worker? TGI Friday. They loaded 80 jokes in a perfect imitation.

One of the greatest 5 minutes of Comedy, pure genius.

Check out his Better Call Saul episode from Season 4. He’s a sweetheart. He plays an employee in a Money Wire store and interacts with a “good” guy and then a bad guy comes in to find out what the good guy wanted. The transition from a skit about the Last Supper to a monologue featuring the former president was totally unexpected. I haven't laughed this hard over a cold open in a long time. James Austin Johnson is brilliant and so very funny!
