Based on Homer's "Iliad," this epic portrays the battle between the ancient kingdoms of Troy and Sparta. Menelaus' brother, King Agamemnon (Brian Cox), having already defeated every army in Greece, uses his brother's fury as a pretext to declare war against Troy, the last kingdom preventing his control over the Aegean Sea.

What I really liked about this scene is that the duel ends really fast. No hollywood-style epic swings, multiple shots, both fighting for few minutes, evading deadly blows, no not at all. Giant, despite it's size is not really smart compared to Achilles and the latter takes his agility to his advantage, ending the very-feared giant with just one swing. Perfect.

Its still Hollywood-ized but more realistic than 99% of all movie fights. A fight to the death would resemble a UFC fight with weapons more than what we see in most action movies where guys punch each other for 10 minutes. It'd be over fast and people just going for something that'd mortally wound you rather than flashy kung fu combos

Yes, it seems from the context of the film Boagrius is a veteran of many fights hence the scars. You don't survive that many fights by underestimating your opponent. It's clear that this scene is a kind of exposition meant to inform us that Achilles is in a tier all by himself (maybe even above ordinary mortal men if the original work taken into account, with only fate to determine his time and place of ending).
