The tactics the defenders implemented was questionable. First, fire arrows are worse than normal arrows against soldiers. They are inferior at piercing armor and the fire will clot every wound they make. Most soldiers don't die from getting shot immediately, they die from blood loss, so using fire arrows is counterproductive. And speaking of fire arrows, they didn't set fire to the ship before it made landfall. If they lit up the ship the crew would have to scramble to extinguish the fire, buying the defenders time to pick off more soldiers or bring more men to reinforce the beach. Regardless, great classic movie definitely worth a watch.

Not shown in this clip but they just arrived, Myrmidons were on the shore faster then the rest so maybe that was the plan Trojans had but due to the enemy being faster it just didn't work? I don't know, this might be a stretch but that's how I see it.

While the armor was not period to when the Iliad was first composed, the use of the spear as the primary weapon of the proto-hoplite in battle and duel was nearly perfect. The spear was the primary weapon. The sword was a secondary weapon. In fact, the ferrule of the spear when the spear is broken can serve as a weapon. It was wonderful to see those well choreographed combat scenes.

One complaint about the Dune film. I’ve never liked when battles are completely one sided. Troy really does a good job showing both sides taking losses and conveys a sense of the lethality of the combat. Instead of the Uber Fremen winning every single fight without taking any losses; especially the final battle.
