In this video I'm back up in the Eastern Sierra fishing the June Lake Loop with Esteban of Golden State Fishing as well as some of the GSF ProStaffers. We will be targeting all of the lakes in the loop (June, Gull, Silver, and Grant) participating in the annual June Lake Loop Monster Trout Contest. Lets see how it all turned out.
In this trout fishing video you will see the techniques I use to regularly catch trout including; how to fish mini jigs, how to fish spoons, how to fish the double dropshot, and tips and tricks for using bait set ups for trout.

    Typically ill cast upstream and raise my rod tip up high and quickly drop it down creating slack in the line. I repeat this process as i work my bait down the current. This allows the jig or spoon to fall deeper in the water column hopefully to where the fish are holding. If the current is stronger you can experiment with adding weight to your presentation but too much weight can affect your presentation and get hung up more easily

    Love watching your videos, always learn a ton. Thanks for sharing all your tips and tricks. Beginners question, how do you cast far enough when using light weight jigs? In the past when I would try, I wouldn't be able to cast out more than 5-10 feet.

  • @SeaSpankerOutdoors

    It has the most to do with the line and the rod. You need a 7’6-8’ rod and you need to use very light thin diameter line. I use 4lb Phenix Iron Feather braid and it works great 🤘

    Sorry for asking, which of eastern sierra lakes best for shore fishing? Thank you for your time and consideration 🙏

  • @SeaSpankerOutdoors

    @SeaSpankerOutdoors

    10 ай бұрын

    No need to apologize, thats what I’m here for 🤘I cant really say which is the best or what I think would be the best as the bite is always different at the lakes every time I go up. Some of my favorite lakes to shore fish at up there are Lundy, Convict, Mary, and Silver off the top of my head. The best thing you can do up there is be flexible. If the trout aren’t biting move to another spot or another lake.

    Great video! Got a technical question. I release (almost) all my fish and typically use forceps to pop the hook out. I notice that you do that by hand. It seems like you really have to grab the fish hard and wrestle the hook out sometimes. It seems like that's harder on the fish's mouth. Do you feel like the forceps cause more damage when twisting out a hook? Thanks for the vid.

  • @SeaSpankerOutdoors

    @SeaSpankerOutdoors

    I guess it would be on a case by case basis. Ive had some sustain alot of damage removing with my fingers and some with pliers/forceps. I think it comes down to which method your more comfortable with or skilled at.

    What kind of fishing waders do you recommend? I’m heading that way in 2 weeks!

  • @SeaSpankerOutdoors

    @SeaSpankerOutdoors

    Жыл бұрын

    It honestly depends on how much time your gonna spend using waders. I use them alot and have shoulder and neck problems so I need really comfortable wading boots as I’m on my feet wading for hours at a time. I use and recommend Simms waders and Korker boots. Built to last and super comfortable but the trade off is price, my waders retail for $700 and the boots retail at $200😬. RUNCL has some boot attached waders for $50-$60 that will get the job done especially if your not spending all day in them in extreme cold. The RUNCL waders dont breath as well and you will end up getting “moist” from condensation build up on the inside but its not anything that is gonna ruin your day, especially if your just using them for part of the day. Here are some links to other waders I own and get the job done. The first is a neoprene set with boot’s attached and the second are a “stocking foot” version that I paired with the korker boots TIDEWE Hunting Waders with Boot Hanger & 600G Insulation, Waterproof Cleated Neoprene Bootfoot Fishing Chest Waders a.co/d/a87CZ3L 8 Fans Fly Fishing Waders Breathable Waterproof Stocking Foot Chest Waders for Men and Women Medium a.co/d/fzl7eE7
