The fact that at some point in the movie, Robert Downey Jr, an American actor, played the role of an Australian method actor, playing the role of an African-American soldier, disguised as a Vietnamese farmer... SHOLD NOT BE FORGETTEN. There's no question that had it not been for Heath Ledger's amazing Joker, RDJ would've won the Oscar for best supporting actor that year. Personally, my favorite comedic performance of all time.

As a black man I 100% support Tropic Thunder and love this movie. Robert Downey Jr was hilarious in his role and is playing a white blonde hair blue eyed Australian actor who thinks it’s ok to do black face. Totally different than casting a white actor in a black role, or a white actor trying to pass as black. We know the character is white and are introduced to him as white. The comedy is that he thinks it’s ok because he’s a crazy idiotic actor and wants to dive into a role and Jr plays it perfectly. Definitely deserved his Oscar nom.

Yeah this is what Tom Cruise had to say about it: "I said [about the script], 'This is fun.' I said, 'Do you mind Ben? I want to play this character. I want to have fat hands and I want to dance.' And he looked at me; he was like, what? I remember Ben and [saying] 'No, no. Ben. I want fat hands. And I'm gonna dance.' He said, 'Look, are you sure? Why don't you just be you.' I said, 'No, no, no. I'm sorry man. I don't know how else to play this character.' So then I did the makeup test and we tested the fat hands and the whole look. So, we were doing the wardrobe and there was no music and I was just like, 'Look, I want to do some moves for you.' So I just started working on Les. He picked the music out, he edited it together, he was just pissing himself."

2008 is the year of the greatest comeback in history for a Hollywood actor. A guy who for over 5 years was getting arrested for drugs and was one more bust from going away for a long time in prison and who had to fight his way back into the good graces of Hollywood. He played it smart and stuck with smaller semi independent movies and then Iron Man came along and he was a star again but this time even bigger getting nominated for an Oscar for this movie.

Back in '08, most people in the theatre were completely unaware that it was him under that makeup and fat suit until his name appeared in the end credits... needless to say, our minds were completely blown. But then again, it's so obvious that it was his voice, mannerisms and facial features. Kinda unbelievable that many of us didn't recognize him. But yea, surprised to see this movie being reacted to. Enjoyed this very much! Also, some legendary comedies to watch are: Mike Judge's OFFICE SPACE Mike Judge's IDIOCRACY (watch after Office Space) - -basically Mike Judge predicting our current society back in 2006 TOOTSIE BLAZING SADDLES SOME LIKE IT HOT THE APARTMENT The latter 4 were nominated for and won multiple Oscars.

I believe Ben Stiller decided the movie based on actors claiming that going to the actor's Boot Camp was the same as regular Boot Camp. He had ideas concerning actors having PTSD flashbacks to remember that they didn't have catering. This is also one of the best parodies to be made in... forever. And Robert Downey, Jr. was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Tropic Thunder. He lost to Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight. I always saw the characters as: Tugg- the action star who wants to be serious, but doesn't really know how. When he tries, it's a miss Kirk- the method actor who believes they can play ANY character (no matter race, gender, sexuality) without repercussions Jeff- the comedian who wants to be taken seriously, but isn't because he's supposed to be the "funny man" Alpha- the musician/rapper who's trying to get into acting, could also be there to promote something of his/her's Kevin- the wide-eyed newbie actor who's excited to be in Hollywood and does everything right (reads the script, learns the history, etc.), but realizes that the more seasoned actors don't do the same It's a really interesting take on how Hollywood is while also making fun of them too. The whole cancel culture thing that happened earlier this year was really stupid and shows how most of my generation (gen-z) looks for things to be mad at without really looking at the whole picture.

True story: there was a guy who dated a friend's sister, we always tolerated him during the length of that relationship, but he was a dumb jock who appreciated sophomoric humor a little too much. After they saw this at the theater, he kept saying tropic thunder was stupid (he wasn't clever enough to get it), but couldnt stop talking about the trailer for the new jack black movie he wanted to see. Became an inside joke for years.

I'm excited for/jealous of you for getting to watch this for the first time now. It's one of my favorites for so many reasons. It's enjoyable on more levels than almost any other movie that I can remember. Love your reactions, keep it up.
