Mel Brooks said something that I'll never forget. Years after making 'Blazing Saddles' (1974), an interviewer said, "You'd never be allowed to make that movie now". Mel Brooks' responded, "I wasn't allowed to make it back then!". I think the best way to minimize racism, is to mock it. This was done perfectly in this movie. The fact that they had a Black actor there to point out how ridiculous RDJ's character was, made it easy for people to laugh. When this came out, I remember that the big controversy wasn't about the racial stereotyping, it was about the use of "the r-word". Now, I also think that's ridiculous. I still use it because I'm not talking about people with disabilities, and because context actually matters. But I 100% agree with you. People are frothing at the mouth, just waiting for something to scream about. I don't actually believe they're truly offended. They just want to take people down. It's a vicious, mob-like, social contagion of sadistic and bitter people. If we can't laugh, we're doomed. We have got to continue to support and promote artists who push the envelope-- who break the rules. That's what art is supposed to do. If artists like comics and filmmakers are allowing themselves to be constricted by this beast, they're not doing their jobs.

14:24 I think the Sean Penn movie being referenced is 2001's "I Am Sam", about a father with an intellectual disability fighting to retain custody of his bright young daughter. The daughter was played by a 7-year-old Dakota Fanning in her breakout role, for which she became the youngest actor ever nominated for a SAG Award. I'm not surprised you haven't heard of it, though; it didn't get great reviews at the time, and has been mostly forgotten since. 14:55 I believe the technique in question is called "method acting". Daniel Day-Lewis is another famous adherent, as is Val Kilmer. When asked about working with Kilmer for the movie "Tombstone" (great Western! It's about the famous shootout at the O.K. Corral), in which Kilmer played legendary gunfighter Doc Holliday, Michael Biehn ("Terminator", "Aliens", "The Abyss"), one of Val's co-stars, said, "I've never worked with Val Kilmer. I've worked with Doc Holliday".

Tom Cruise n RDJ were the best in this movie, absolutely n ridiculously hilarious. Nowadays ppl are "offended" by movies like this to the point that movies are not allowed, it was obviously a comedy n RDJ has said that all his African American friends have no problem with the role he played since they know it wasn't meant as disrespect or anything like that. This was an epic movie and those of us who enjoyed it live a much happier life than those who get offended by it, guaranteed. Loved your reaction, it was nice watching you laugh like you did

"I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude" only makes sense if it comes from the perspective of RDJ himself.

Nick Nolte is also in this. A few cameos . You want to laugh some more ? Try " History Of The World Part 1" all the Naked Gun movies & Airplane part 2. Just to name a few 😏

great blink and you'll miss it cameo from Jon Voight at the end in Oscar ceremony; expecting to get the Oscar and looking pissed off, he's known for being missed out on a number of nominations. Great actor. He did get one btw for Midnight Cowboy
