Trolloc Wars - Wheel of Time Lore DOCUMENTARY

Фильм және анимация

Wizards and Warriors new animated fantasy documentary lore video will talk about the world of Wheel of Time created by the late Robert Jordan in a series concluded by Brandon Sanderson. In the first episode we will talk about the Second Age, the age of Legends, when the humanity reached the peak of its potential through the One Power of the Creator under the leadership of the Aes Sedai, and how the hubris and greed of some allowed the Dark One - Shai'tan to enter the world to corrupt it, leading to the War of Power. The Light is led by Lews Therin Telamon, the "Dragon" and his attack on the Dark One leads to the Breaking of the World ( • How the Men Broke the ... ). In the aftermath of the breaking, the Aes Sedai rise to power and the humanity starts to slowly rebuild itself, until Ishamael attacks again, leading to the century-long Trolloc Wars.

Top-notch animation! 😁 Especially the military movements! (big surprise /s) Lots of stuff in this video I didn't know (I haven't read the whole Companion). Some thoughts: 1:50 and 18:21 'Aiel' is both single and plural and a loan word from the Old Tongue. 'Aiels' is not a word. 2:10 That no one was able to unite humanity in this time frame does not mean no one wanted to. 2:40 Not a correction, but an elaboration: note that the term 'ajah' dates from the Age of Legends and IIRC the concept of Ajahs as they exist in the Third Age predates the White Tower - both the organization and the physical structure. A correction, not elaboration: Ajahs do not have different tasks, but different focuses. Blues will track down channeling men even though the Reds primarily do so. Greys will Heal despite that being a Yellow focus, etc. 'Task' implies a duty imposed on them from above, but I don't think there's any evidence of that. They're more the pursuit of the shared interests of the Ajah members (which over time gives rise to Ajah rules and traditions, etc.). 4:40 Worth mentioning that another key characteristic of some early Second Age construction is the use of the Power in the construction process (e.g. the White Tower itself). 9:20 Referring to Shadowspawn armies as "force/army/etc of Blight" is unconventional if not incorrect. You could say "army of *the* Blight", but "army of the Shadow" would be more typical. 12:10 Is "left" on the map North? If not, then the geography is off. 14:12 I may be wrong, but I always understood the Shadowspawn army to have crossed the Tarendrelle under fire. That is, it was a contested crossing mid-battle, not a crossing elsewhere that later led to engagement near the bridge remains. 16:44 "A Shai'tan" makes no sense. Shai'tan is the name of the Dark One, not a category of creature or a particular role or something like that. 18:06 (captions) 'Myrddraal' has two Ds and two As, not two Rs. This one can and imho should be fixed. Tai'shar Wizards and Warriors!

Speaking of Tarendrelle, that translates to Waters of the Mountainhome (edit: oops, I messed up here as well. I was thinking "Manetherendrelle"), and is, as pointed out here, the name of the river. If I'm not hallucinating, the capital was simply called Manetheren. There are also some things where I'm not entirely sure if it's fact or just conjecture. The scene where the cavalry is being passed forward is a memory of Mat's, but are we sure that it was, in fact, that final stand? Or is it just a guess that it also happened there? Regardless, I'm also really enjoying this series.

I love that you're doing this, and the Kings & Generals narration style is great here as well. One point of feedback: I have the utmost respect for Devin, who is doing an excellent job as always, but give the man some help! He can't be expected to read the entire series, but help him get the feel across with some information! Minor accuracies (like misnaming Manetheren's capital) or guesswork don't matter that much, but giving Devin some pointers is easy and a vast improvement. Things like saying "THE One Power" instead of "One Power", or pronouncing the word Aiel correctly would be a simple and effective upgrade to your series. Wheel of Time is notoriously difficult with pronunciation, but some names are widely accepted, and you guys have at least one person who has read the series and can help with the general lingo. As for the rest, if you don't have time to go through the script with Devin (fair enough), there are pronunciation guides. Even if they get things wrong as well, at least give it a shot and add the respective entries to important names in the script. Despite the rant, I love that you guys are doing this. See you in the next one ;)

She used diplomacy and negotiations to forge the Compact of the Ten Nations and is regarded as the paragon of the Grey Ajah, the Ajah devoted to diplomacy, negotiation and law. No doubt she had the support of the White Tower in her efforts, but she there is no indication that she did so because she 'could not conquer all of the 10 nations.'

Which is ridiculous considering the level off technological innovation they had in the First Age. No matter how big a collapse may have been, when you have endless lightbulbs and instant teleportation and magic it should be a matter of decades before everything is fixed back to where it was.

A breaking of the world as it is portrayed really messes things up hugely. It lasted generations on a worldwide scale from what I understood, with most artefacts, knowledge and established civilization lost. Most people with the higher knowledge/abilities sacrificed themselves to save as many others/what was left as possible, likely giving up their own lives in the process. And also don't underestimate what a devastating generations long war can do too.

I also would like to add that yes, there was a large population drop, however due to the constantly changing circumstances in landscape etc, resources like fresh water and reliable food supplies were difficult to find for a long time, so there was also fighting for those and that mindset would likely have remained engrained for quite some time, even fighting over such resources after it wasn't necessary anymore.

Northern westlands should be arid surrounded by mountains and Sharaa should be greener due to the winds patterns. Most humankind has died, theres plenty of free space>Servants of the powerful wizards goes to hellish dessert for no reason. You face an army of minotaurs with no bows. You usually combat them though guerrilla tactics. How do u face them. Horse archers, who are fast and away from their melee weapons? Nah, better spearmen that they can smash easily. The motto that nothing joins more than a common enemy strangely doesnt applies in Aridhol. You face an army who menaces to wipe the continent. Nah, better enable the best army opposing them to die because you envy their queen. Yes, we can deduce how things went in Aiel wastes, trollocs died of thirst. The lore of this franchise is so nonsensical. A critic say this series proof that bad fantasy sells well as long as u plagiarise Tolkien.

  • @MDP1702

Northern westlands usually are portrayed as pretty desolate from what I remember. We never got much information about Sharaa. The Aiel were chased out of the westlands before they really became the strong force they are in the series, and stayed there due to tradition/'religion'. By the time aiel started to shape into what they were, the powerfull wizards were spread out or gone, focused on their own problems/people as a whole. Also those wizards too were seen in the 2nd age as serving everyone else. And thus so were their servants. Trollocks do use bows actually sometimes I think, but usually they use their shear mass more to pressure the opposition. They are also so strong that arrows aren't as effective, but they are used regardless. Also horse archers are useless if you need to maintain a line, can't give up ground and stop them. In the last battle these are actually used effectively during their constant retreat where they could give up ground. Spearman make perfect sense to battle an opponent like trolloks. Aridhol was being corrupted by someone else from the inside, a bit like Theodon in Lord of the Rings. That corruption entailed to not trust anyone else, they didn't even really trust eachother near the end in Aridhol. Ie. paranoia took grip of Aridhol. Human stupidity knows no bounds, as can envy. All your criticism or just stupid.

@@MDP1702 With desolate u must mean depopulated, maps always portray them as prairie. Another nonsense is that they are so depopulated. All maps portray Shara as mostly arid and desert. In fact is an abvious contraction of Sahara. Shouldnt be with its position. Then this video is misleading, it doesnt mention any conflict that expulses the aiel. Trollocs dont see stronger than elefants, arrows are effective against elefants. You dont need to hold a line with horse archers. Oh yes, beter enable the troloc to kill some men be4 dies instead of kill it from safe distance. A wizard made it? Fair I guess. Real life example of people making the same stupid thing? My criticism in geography and warfare is legitimate. Are u a talifan who acrtically accepts every nonsense as long as u like the story?

@@adamnesico Sure. In order: 1. Your assumptions about wind patterns are based on assumptions about things like: planets distance from the sun, its distance and lunar orbit, it’s rotational axis, etc. This is an anecdotal fallacy: you’re assuming that since it’s not the same as earth, it’s therefore incorrect. To say nothing of geographic anomalies created by madmen wielding powerful magic. 2. Aiel ancestors (Spoilers) were carrying weapons of mass destruction and were pacifists, they were not wizards.and were seeking isolation. They were being raided by looters and survivors, and so sought isolation. Again, ignorance to the lore. 3. Horse archers take time to train, and are expensive. If you need to field an army quickly, you’re bringing up levy spearmen, since spears are easy to use, cheap to manufacture and in large groups effective. Civilizations like the Mongols benefitted in that their culture generated excellent horsemen and archers naturally, but even they relied heavily on levies from subjugated populations. Again, you’re ignorant in history. 3. They literally became the evil they were fighting. It’s not about Aridhol turning on their allies so much as becoming so evil they killed themselves. Ignorance to the lore 4. Take a look at the majority of politicians today, or historical tyrants, who sacrifice the wellbeing of their people or nation for personal gain or personal vendetta. Plenty of people make bad decisions out of pettiness. Ignorance to history and human nature. 5. Again, the books confirm that the Trollocs are killed off by the Aiel as well as the harsh environment. This might be the only thing you said that was partially correct. Ignorance to the lore. 6. This is an opinion, which you are of course entitled to have. Just like my opinion that your opinion is a sad attempt at being contrarian to sound cool or smart, but ultimately looking ignorant and a killjoy 🤷‍♂️
