    I am without a doubt going to start referring to everything that needs to be tightened as "nipped up" ...love that!

    I realise this vid is many years old but anyone who comes across it (while searching for how to change motorcycle shocks) should be aware that the method George uses to remove and replace the shocks is not the easiest, especially if this is your first 'shock change', you are short or not very strong. When he takes off the first shock the swing arm and wheel drops. He then lifts the bike to fit the TEC shock. Some people will struggle to do this, particularly if they are not used to working on their bike. A far better method is to place a block of wood under the rear wheel to support it, while on the paddock stand, and take the weight. This will stop it dropping and there is no need to lift the bike to get the new shock on.

    I was wondering too if the stock shock should be set at the lowest preload setting before removal so the spring is not charged?

    Great vid thanks. I have these shocks but but my paddock stand doesn't fit my t100. Do you think it would be doable without. Just using the side stand? Thanks

    Buddy. I am glued to your channel for the part 3 of the interceptor video. I am kind of surprised as you didnt mention any wobble or shortcomings about the suspenders. Are you planning on an upgrade ? Better still are you planning on releasing a kit :D

    Seems like a block between the fender and tire would do the trick. I think he was working with the bike on the kickstand, the frame drops not the swing arm. Am i missing something? If it was on a center stand nothing would happen unless you removed both shocks at the same time.

    How mm i need for my triumph street twin 2016? 340mm 360mm?

    I'd love to know how people are getting on setting the correct sag with these. I weigh 13 Stone / 82Kgs and am only getting 27mm of sag with the preload wound right out. I would have expected more, maybe 35mm. Std Triumph shocks give me a figure of 36mm which is pretty much perfect. Maybe the new ones just need a bit of bedding in. That or less stiff springs. To be fair, this is mentioned in the video, so I will update in a few hundred miles time.

    Same here. Tec upgrades are only giving me about 20mm rider sag with minimum preload and I’m 95kgs. Feels a bit firm but with only 250 miles on the bike I maybe need to let them bed in or put on a bit more weight😳

    Is that just how the standard shocks behave, I mean harder? I assume if you’ve ridden other touring type bikes, then the street twin may just naturally feel stiffer? I find mine quite stiff plus can feel the bumps on the road! 😯

    +Lars Hansen Hi the bottom mounting screws into the shock and can be adjusted in and out,we also supply an extension part that screws in and that takes them up to Thruxton length The adjustment range between centers is 335mm to 380mm

    Dear George, is it possible to install a new twin shock from TEC for a Thruxton standard? I want to lower it a bit, i don't know what is the stock dimension of it in this moment. What does 120mm represent? I saw on your website something for Thruxton from 335 to 380. This shock can be lower than the stock? Does it fit for the new Thruxton? Thanks in advance!

    Gh. Dragos if you lower the back you will 'slow' the steering and will end up running wide out of corners.

  • @TECBikeParts

    Hi pre load is adjusted on the top threaded rings, if the adjustment is still hard when fully backed off you may need to drop a spring rate.

  • @Justin-gr4yi

    TEC Bike Parts does making the length of the spring shorter soften the shock? When I received the rear shock, it was fully extended and stiff, so I’m assuming if I turn the top threaded rings so it’s closed to the bottom of the shock, it will be softer?

  • @TECBikeParts

    @TECBikeParts

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@Justin-gr4yi No that will increase the pre load. The shocks are very stiff till they fully bed in and it is best to give them a few hundred miles or so to bed in fully before setting up. It may be if you are light and only ride solo you want to drop a spring rate and we can supply lighter rate srpnigs no problem, just ask us with your weights etc

    TEC Bike Parts I weigh 150 lbs. and I am riding solo. I’ve been riding with your rear shocks for over 200 miles and they did soften a bit. Just wanted to know how to soften them more. It would be helpful to see a video on this as your explanation isn’t very clear. If turning the top threaded rings don’t soften the spring, what does?

  • @TECBikeParts

    @TECBikeParts

    5 жыл бұрын

    You cannot 'soften' a spring , a spring is the rate it is, all you can alter the the spring pre load(ride height in effect). If they are too stiff with no pre load added the rate is too high for your needs. Some like a firm spring others prefer a soft spring rate for comfort, I suspect you are the later and need a rate down.
