Hi there, here's a thought...! Vehicles need an MOT to show they are wothy of to be on the road, so why don't British roads need to have an MOT to prove they are worthy to be driven on??? I live in Switzerland and drove by car, over from here to my brother in Sussex last Easter. I usually fly, but now being retired, I wanted to stay for a few weeks and explore up north, having only ever seen the home counties before becoming an expat, many moons ago in Switz. All went well from Switzerland to Sussex. After Easrer, I left him to drive overland up to Berwick on Tweed. Whilst there, I noticed on the way up, i'd lost 3 hub caps on my Mazda between Horsham and Berwick. This all fitted in with the conversation I had with my brother about the aweful condition of British country roads!!!

If only. Unfortunately our roads have fallen into such a state that the county councils, who have to fund the repairs, can not now keep up with it. I fear that things will only get worse for the foreseeable future. Thanks for watching, hope you found it interesting. Cheers.

I'm afraid roads in the UK generally are just getting worse, not better and anything that makes our rides safer and more enjoyable has got to be good. Glad you found my video of help, hope you have lots of fun on your Goldie. Cheers.

Our roads in NZ 🇳🇿 are shocking as well & I encountered freshly dropped gravel a inch deep on a corner on country road & corner sloped away from me so couldn't see gravel till to late.My mates were behind me so went left & lost it & crashed. If mates weren't behind me on more powerful bikes would of gone right.Gravel is my nemisis now. New fork springs make a big upgrade as do the rears must handle good now.

Great video, watched it all even though I'm only looking at the Goldie and haven't taken the plunge. The suspension was an issue as the roads I ride in Kent are pretty holey... as in 'Holy Crap' is the bike still in one piece ;)

Thanks Mark. The state of the roads is pretty dire all over I'm afraid and like most production bikes, the suspension is a compromise. The rear shocks I fitted are no longer available but there are a number of alternatives from both TEC and others such as Hagon. Hope you eventually get one, I'm sure you'll love it. Cheers.

Hi Sam. I think that may be difficult as you really need to lift the front just enough to take the weight off the front suspension. Although you do one side at a time, if the springs are still under compression it will be difficult to get them in and out. Cheers.
@leehart149811 ай бұрын
Can you fit about 2 inch lower front springs and rear shocks? It looks a bit tall for me.
@old-n-Goldie
11 ай бұрын
It's actually not a very tall bike, in fact some people have commented about it looking small. I'm 5ft 8in with a 30in inside leg and sit comfortably on it with both feet flat on the ground. I don't think there are any shorter springs available for it at present, certainly not seen any and a 2in drop sounds a bit much to me. Could be wrong. Cheers.

For what is the Road Tax used for then in UK?? This Tax in Switzerland is partly used for, just as it says in it's name, the ROADS. Serious question here though..., for what is the Road Tax used for in UK does anybody know?
@old-n-Goldie
10 ай бұрын
That is a very good question, but one to which I doubt you will get a straight answer. Certainly the original purpose of it was to go towards the upkeep of the roads. I suspect that nowadays, it just dissappears into that black hole with all other taxes and will get wasted on multi million pound schemes that end up either getting scrapped or benefit few people. Just my synical opinion.
