Triumph Scrambler 1200XE

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Triumph Scrambler 1200XE lives up to its namesake in more than just style. But it does that too, as Harry finds out.

5000 miles of 50/50 riding on my XE. I've had a Tiger 800 and 1200, a Bobber and a Bonneville. This is what happens when they are all blended together. Love it.

Talking about scramblers, I remember being back in school in Klerksdorp in the late 70s, watching two blokes riding to Joburg from Capt Town on XT500s with those big 25 litre plastic tanks, and, get this, sissy bars at the back. I rode all over Europe on the original KLR600 in the early 90s with no fuel gauge and an 11 litre tank and a speed wobble anywhere over 120kph. That was scrambling. I think a scrambler is any bike that you just ride without worrying what the others are saying and doing.

I just bought the 2006 Scrambler and It's a dream to ride imo. I sat on a new 1200 and felt like the seat was too high. And im almost 6 feet tall. Got my 2006 with 4k miles on it for $3500!!! What a bargain. It's truly a gem

Ive had my 1200xe since the start of the year here in NZ. The 2 best mods were lower bar risers to tilt you forward slightly but still good offroad, that stops the wind trying to tear you off at speed. Then the very best mod was to remove the catalytic converter out of original header pipe, that stopped the heat issue and dramatically increased the torque :-)

The heat problem is mainly solved by de-catting which as it's integral to the exhaust will not be noticed, ie you won't get busted for it! Some good Brit aftermarket stuff coming from TEC bike parts with good instruction.

I’m 6’2”/270lbs with a 32” inseam...and the bike feels like it was made for me. This is the Greatest and my most favorite Triumph I have ever owned in the last 14 years. Ride on!!!

I really appreciate that, at least for this model, Triumph addresses the tank’s ugly pinch-weld, giving it a clean bespoke look. But it does raise a question: Why hasn’t Triumph taken the time, and a few production pennies, to do the same on the entire T120 platform? Leaving the pinch-weld on the Thruxton R made me leave it on the showroom floor.

Bike overall looks awesome and specs great, but, the instrument dash looks busy, cramped and lets it down. It needs a clean, clear simplified screen. Learn from the latest Ducati TFT screen. Just in my opinion though. However, it’s a very alluring bike and can’t help to like it...

Did they put piston rings in these? Are the shift shafts made out of cheese? Does the suspension hop? How much oil did it burn? Did the anodization fade from black to grey in two years? Did the cylinder liners crack? Did the cams seize? Is oil consumption rates of one quart/1,000 miles still acceptable? Any cracks in the frame yet? I assume they have cute little matching outfits for the bike. That's always nice. Feeling like you "fit in" is so very important for the people who buy these. Rebels need not apply! BTW, Suzuki makes a nice Scrambler. It's called "DR650". Hope this helps. Signed, Triumph owner.

It's a shame the bike costs so much, it'd be an amazing $11,000-$12,000 bike but at $15,400 base price it's a bit much and I don't think that extra price is warranted considering how many parts are carried over from other bikes to homologate the configuration.
