Triumph Bonneville Madstad windshield install

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is how I installed a Madstad quick detach windshield. it's a very well thought out design, bolts to the fork and not the handlebar. And it's very adjustable so you can find the sweet spot to prevent wind buffeting of your helmet. only windshield I found that can do this. it adjusts 4" up and down as well as the angle forwards and backwards.

    You made it look easy! Mine came today, pretty straight forward, although the locking mechanism for the detach were on wrong from the factory, windshield did not line up, figured it out but it took time, bought the 18" I'm 5'7" and this worked fine, no buffeting, windshield is a little flimsy but I think it's designed that way to give it a little flex, much better than the dart marlin windshield, overall happy with it,

    I got mine installed a couple of weeks ago with the help of your tips. So far the best windshield for my Bonneville T120. Madstad is a no brainer because of the adjustability. Back all the way I will get the summer breeze, and for winter it’s just about perfect, if you can call it winter for what we get in SoCal.

    Nice work, I was wondering what it looks like taking it off and on with the quick release. Was the cost of this more than Memphis Shades? I think I was looking at them before but that was quite a while ago.

    I filmed it taking it on and off but the camera was in picture mode and not video, grrr. I think it was more than the Memphis shades but it's a very different design. Totally mounts to the fork and is a breeze to remove and put back on with no tools needed.

    Gotcha, I’ll take a look again before you put the windshield on, so you just unhook the side then and don’t have to mess with the screws in front when taking them off is I guess what I want to know. I love the look of the naked bike, but yeah, reducing wind to the body would be great at higher speeds. I can’t ride or do work on mine as I’m recovering from surgery so I’m living vicariously through you now and planning for the future.

    Yup no tools, just 2 quick release brackets that you pull out and then swing up out of the way and the shield lifts right off, goes on just as easy, takes seconds to do.

    There was no hardware left over, if thats what you mean. I did show how I take it off and put it back on in the top box plate video, it's at the end. Height of windshield and the angle will vary by the rider. You just have to try a few settings until you find what works for you. Also keep in mind that I chose the shortest windshield they offered. I think it's 18" But if I get a chance I'll try and do another video on it.

    The brand name is Madstad, they are in Florida USA. They build each one to order. I'm very happy with this windshield. If you Google it and give them a call they will also tell you how to measure for the correct height windshield for you.

    Great job Greg on the install video. I've been thinking about going the Madstad route for my 2023 Speed Twin 900. After watching the process and end result, I may have to get a bit more serious as it looks great on your beautiful T120. We're about the same height and was wondering what height windshield you ordered? Thanks in advance for any info you can send my way..........Steve in NM (subscribed)

    I ordered the 18" windshield, it's the shortest one they offer but it has about 4 inches of adjustability. You do have to ride it and go through some trial and error to get the angle right but the height was easy to set. I set it so I can look over the top of the windshield and then played with the angle until I was in smooth air. I'm very happy with the madstad windshield.

    @@woodtickgreg6926 Thanks Greg, that's what I came up with after reading on how to measure height. Looks like it should do a great job of keeping me a bit more protected from the elements. I'm running a Dart "Marlin" windscreen and like it for summer riding here in NM. The madstad would likely take over in late Fall to early Spring. Happy 4th!

    Hello, I have a Triumph Bonneville t120 black . 2023 Model. A couple of days ago I installed the Madstad windshield by watching this video and thank you for it. After Removing the stock top fork clamp bolt and replacing it with the ones Madstad provided, I see that the bolt is not %100 in its place screwed. So,I just wanted to ask you if this is a normal situation or did I do something wrong? I took the picture of it as well and can send it to you too. Your help would be super helpful and thank you very much.

    I'm 5'9" I purchased the 18" and I have it set about in the middle and I can look over it. If you call madstad they will instruct you on how to measure for your height. It takes 2 people to properly measure while you are sitting on the bike.

    I ordered the 18" height and for me at 5'9" it's perfect. But if you call the company they will tell you how to measure for the correct height, it kinda takes 2 people to do it correctly. Have an assistant help with that. I've had it up to 70 mph for the first test run as you saw me set it up and it worked really good. It's a much .ore relaxed ride at speed as your not holding onto the bike trying not to get blown off. And the biggest thing for me was much reduced wind buffeting, almost non existent! I'm still going to play around with the angle and height a bit just to see if I can improve it further, but overall I'm very impressed with it. They sell replacement shields for it if it ever gets damaged or scratched and you can get it tinted too. They make each one to order so it does take some time to get it but it's well worth the wait.

  • @NanceDrew

    @NanceDrew

    Did they have you measure your torso? I’d think that would make more of a difference than overall height. When you went on your 70mph run, was the wind hitting your helmet in a certain area?

  • @woodtickgreg6926

    @woodtickgreg6926

    Жыл бұрын

    Nance they have you sit on the bike and hold a measuring tape on top of the headlight at an angle the same as the fork and have someone look to see where your chin is in alignment with the measuring tape, then subtract 2 inches so you will have some adjustment. On my first test run at high speeds the wind seems to hit the top of my helmet, a little adjusting and I think that will be gone. And I look over the top of the windshield.

    @mikehershberger7229 I have no regrets. I did play around with it for awhile to find the sweet spot to create the smoothest pocket of air. I find for around town and speeds below 45 mph I like it on its lowest setting just so I can get a little more air. But on the freeways I pull it all the way up to get the wind to go over my head and yet I can still look over the top of the windshield. If I had it to do all over again I would buy it again because of its adjustability.

    Looks like you're on the same trajectory as me since I've done the Madstad immediately after purchase of the my 2020 T12O in 2021. The main problem for mine was side to side movement at highway speeds especially following vehicles which i devised a fix for. I guess that comes down to what each individual rider likes. For me it's a midsize ish screen. I've seen some larger that did not appeal to me. But it's not a tiny little fly screen that offers no protection. It has greatly reduced helmet wind buffeting when on the highway and yet I can still look over the top of it. I dont even notice it when I'm riding and that's a sign of a good fitting windshield in my opinion. But to each their own, we are all fee to choose what we like. I'm very happy with this windshield, I have no regrets with the purchase of it. For me its perfect.
