Triumph Bonneville Motone engine crash bar install
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
A little video on how I installed a set of Motone engine crash bars. Pretty tight spaces to try and get a wrench or socket on the backside of the nuts. Really nice stainless steel crash bars though and I like how they sleeve together. I also like how they don't stick out to far and have a nice clean look.

Really enjoyed your mounting of the Motone “Craig” engine guards especially since I just finished installing them on my T120 . Using a swivel head 17mm wrench made it much easier but also the use of fingers came in handy plus a torque wrench to finish it off.

Very cool, yes I used a torque wrench on mine too. 😀

Planning on doing the bars on my 2020 bud ekins . Funny thing that the bolts aren't standard looking in that they are torx bolts and have rounded edges outside. Am I correct??
Looks sharp. Just looked at the same bike today. If I purchase, will definitely look at this same windscreen. Thanks.

I'm totally happy with this bike. Definitely one of my all time favorites. It's just a very easy bike to ride, and the torque is part of that equation, lol. The windscreen is excellent, once you get it properly adjusted for you there will be no wind buffeting and you can look over the top of the screen. I just did a 300 mile ride and the windshield was just plastered with bugs but only a couple on the top of my helmet.
Hello, good job on the presentation everything looks real clean style wise ! I would like your opinion regarding how much protection those bars provide for the engine side cases (since they are several inches below) ?? Thank you

I think they stick out just far enough that they would come in contact with the ground first in the event of a tip over. I hope I never have to find out! 😊
Is this better than triumph original crash guard ? Please reply thanks in advance

I think it is just because of the way its constructed with the sleeve that joins the 2 halfs together. Plus the brackets are gusseted very nicely for strength. And it's polished stainless steel so it will never rust and there isn't any chrome to scratch off or peel to cause rust issues. I also like the smaller size of them, some of the guards that are on the market including the oem triumph bars are just too big in my opinion and that takes away from the classic look of the bike.
Totally missed the top bolts coming off and back on . This was my whole reason for watching. It's such a tight spot . How did you do it ?

It is a tight spot. I have small hands and I was able to hold the nut in place on the back side and then push the bolt through while turning it to get it started. Then I was able to get a box wrench on the back side to hold the nut while I torqued it down.

You have to take the tank off to easily attach it.

@EastboundDwn I didn't take the tank off, but it might have made it easier to access the nuts. I was able to do it leaving it on.
What year is your bike? I heard for the 2023 model they changed some of the engine bolt sizes.

It's a 2023

@@woodtickgreg6926 I checked on the Motone web site and they said the bolts would not fit a 2023 T120 . I have your exact bike and would like to buy the Craig bars. I wonder why they would post that on their site when you were able to fit it.

I ordered mine through A&J cycle. Mine bolted up no problem as you saw in the video. I only had to lightly grind the flange on one of the bolts to clear the bracket gusset. But it was really light. No problems anywhere else.
My Dream Bike 🙏
What torque settings did you use after installing

I think it was 40nm.
Thanks! Just doing mine today. For the benefit of anyone with the Torx engine mount bolt-heads, the size is T55. You can get a single T55 driver (usually 3/8ths) at Home Depot in Canada. The recommended torque value for these heads is 40 NM. A handy addition to the swear-word vocabulary (which will be needed) is Roger's Profannisaurus. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger%27s_Profanisaurus PS....to hold the nuts on initial fitting I use a piece of wooden dowel, put into the internal nut threads. Like your bendy Chinese tools idea, I just sawed off the handle of a cheap 17mm to make my own "stubby". Cheers!

Finally got them on, and they look great, but what a faff. Also, on my machine there was only one washer between four bolts, the left lower one, so I replaced it there. I guess Triumph know what they are doing. I think these are certainly Stard type Bars, or as we say here in French Canada, Bar Stards.

Would a crowfoot wrench help?

@@woodtickgreg6926 Or maybe a stubby wrench or stubby ratchet?

I just installed these bars on my 2022 T-100 today. It was nearly impossible to get any sort of wrench on the nuts. Blood was shed in the effort. But, I ended up using a pair of angled long nose pliers to hold the nuts and that did the trick. Once I figured that out is was a half hour job. They are nice bars for sure. I didn't have to do any grinding. Everything fit very well.
like your rear luggage rack. Can you tell me the brand and model? Thanks

It's a Givi brand. I have a video about it that explains alot. It was not a direct bolt on and it had to be modified to fit. But in the end it was worth it, I really like it.
