split and skinned black gram (urad daal)....................................2 cup
Rice flour (chawal ka atta)............................................................ 2 tbsp
Onion (finely chopped)................................................................. 1 small
Ginger (finely chopped)............................................................... 1/2 inch
Curry leaves (chopped)................................................................. 3-4 no.
Green chilli (chopped).................................................................. 1 large
Cumin seeds (jeera)...................................................................... 1/2 tsp
Black pepper powder (kali mirch)............................................... 1/4 tsp
Baking soda.................................................................................. a pinch
salt................................................................................................ 1 tsp
oil for frying

Hi Mridula, I have been cooking for a long time - 50 yrs - and I cook a lot of different cuisines too but I have never seen this idea of dropping vadas! Kudos to you. It is really wonderful idea !

Thanks so much for your video and your methods of how to shape a Vada. I'm not indian but love vada so much. I grew up eating vada a lot. I tried making Vada twice and I had trouble shaping it but now, I can do the spatula method. Thanks again, it was really helpful. I will try again this summer.

Perfect recipe and idea, i do it with two change ,1soak rice and dal together instead of using rice flour and then dont put soda rather if you grind it ald leave for some time it become crispy, because the rice granular in batter add crispyness

That's a nice trick mam, but the flat spatula also has few drops of water at the back side, which may be little risky, while putting the vada in the oil.
