Growing up in the 80s, we watched his shows every night and relied on them. Tucking America to bed for 33 years, amd here I am, 20 years past his passing, I still come here to watch his shows. Bluetooth YT to my TV & Johnny Carson is still tucking me to bed 💜 The Goat of night time television 🕊️

Even jay and David had star power though at least. I watch Carson reruns and the thought of how quickly he could make a career is crazy. Jay tried very hard and was a great guest and stand up. Okay host but then seeing Fallon get something so easily that it felt Nobody was good enough for was annoying. Conan maybe shoulda just sucked up because he woulda become a better host. Seinfeld woulda been good I thought

@@richardharris6058 I would not doubt you. I read his mother was a true child abuser POS human being who destroyed Johnny Carson's childhood. Child abuse is rampant in this country, but it's out of sight, out of mind. In Johnny's defense, he was programmed to be cruel by his mother. Sadly.

I could have watched a LOT more JC, but, I was much younger, and needed my sleep and college study time. Never has there been such a range of characters to sit beside him - - from astronauts to zoologists - - and, even, to sit in his chair, even for just a day. He l launched many careers from a single show, and even ended those of a few. After Carson left the air, I tried to watch late night shows, such as Arsenio, Rivers, Leno, Letterman, and all the wannabes who came afterward on the myriad networks, including daytime talk shows, but, there is no comparison to Carson, because those hosts are all egomaniacs, no matter how warmly they present themselves (Dick Cavett was a second best, but, he always struck me as awkward, never sure what to do next, always at a loss for focus, etc). Now, I settle for the "Best of Carson," hoping that, someday, they release the hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of most of the Tonight Shows that Johnny saw fit to store deep in a salt mine to be preserved for all time; what good are they sitting there?

They have. Carson’s nephew, Jeff Sotzing, was a producer on The Tonight Show for many years, and is now in charge of Carson Entertainment Productions, which owns The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson catalog. They have a You Tube channel that features many clips. DVD sets of entire episodes are available from Amazon, though not nearly all of them. Almost all episodes from 1962-1971 were erased or taped over by NBC.

He either introduced and propelled new talent or gathered the finest stars in show business. "Here's Johnny!" introduced to us someone who was both a star and a humble man from Nebraska into our living rooms every night. He had a special quality and we loved him.

I remember Johnny when he was still hosting his game show "Who Do You Trust." Most of the great original shows were in New York at the time and when he took over the Tonight Show from Jack Paar, and it too was in New York, I often went in to watch it being taped. My tickets were from his very gracious sponsors at the time. From day one until the last Good-Night - I loved Johnny Carson. There will never be another like him...but then again...the world doesn't need another...he brought us all we could ever want and we loved every second of it.

I never watched "Who Do You Trust" (I was very young), but I remember a commercial for the show. It consisted of funny banter between Carson and McMahon about whether the show should be called "Who Do You Trust" or "Whom Do You Trust". To this day, whenever people argue over "who" or "whom", I think of that commercial. :)

I was a young lad of 10 when Carson debuted on the Tonight Show. My parents would only let me stay up to watch him on Friday nights. Over the years, I rarely missed his show and with the advent of VCRs, I would record each one. I still watch reruns here on KZread and I thank God for the technology that allows me to watch and love him all over again.

Growing up in a 2 bedroom apt in Queens, when Johhny came on at 1130 the TV in the living room, and both bedrooms had the Tonight Show on. I think even as young as 11-12 years old in the early 70s I fell asleep to Johnny. This couldn't happen again in my opinion for 2 reasons. There's only 1 Johnny Carson, and nobody really cares about today's stars. You never hear on late TV " Hey, ..remember that night we ". Your missed Mr. Carson

His brilliance was being able to make you forget about the day….. Not to relive, embellish and be obviously partisan about the day. On the tube for more than 30 year and people cried when he left. Say that about ANY celebrity today.

There were only three major networks during Johnny Carson's run, so anyone given a show had to be good. But nobody else was THIS good. The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson was a high-water mark for the industry, and a cultural institution. His content went viral, daily, before there was an internet.
