I don't care how Mr. Williams died, I care how he lived. He was funny & generous & kind. He worked tirelessly with the charities he held dear to him. His films made me laugh, think and cry. There are unbelievable stories of the things he did for his friends: like helping Letterman out early in his career or being the one who finally made Christopher Reeves laugh after his horseback riding accident or snapping Spielberg out of his depressed state while he was directing Schindler's List. That's how I'll remember Robin Williams because that's how he deserves to be remembered. RIP, Captain My Captain.

It's 6/12/2023 and I've watched David Letterman's show(s) ever since he started performing. I'm now 74 years old now, dealing with a couple of health issues, including prostate cancer and a sort of early Alzheimers.. I've loved all of Dave's show and so miss Robin Williams in every thing he did, on TV and in movies. Thanks, KZread for offering posts such as this one.

Umm... if you're refering to Robin Williams, sure that's fair.. But David Letterman is a terrible, awful human. Please understand thiis.. He has harassed so many women. Many of whom were supposed to be protected by him, under his wing. Sexually violated Jennifer Anniston live on his show in front of millions of people. Harassed Lindsey Lohan. Violated child visitors and r***d his female staff members. Forced young male staff to show him their bodies. He is a terrible, horrible person. Why do any of you adore him? He is so, so awful. Even the laziest background Google searches would reveal to you how terrible he is. Please stop supporting this pedophilic, monstrous creep.

Robin Williams is a funny guy. He made the world a happier place.
Dave has a way at paying tribute, morning a death, and giving the deceased their dignity. There's no pitty in Daves tribute. There's no 'oh poor me' in it. It's just a friend talking about his friend and the positive impact he had on the world.
Robin Williams showed that there's more to be an entertainer than just entertaining people. He changed the lives of millions of people for the better. I can't believe it's almost been a decade. The world is worse place for losing him.

One thing I love about the tribute is that he didn't focus on Williams making others laugh; the clips focused on times when Williams himself was laughing and enjoying himself.
He was beloved, he is missed dearly.
The three men in the photo shaped a lot of our lives with their humor. Thanks for the memories
This reminds me of my real friends. At 53 I have 5 friends. These 5 people keep me grounded and I can simply be myself around them. What a special connection Robin and Dave had, but knowing what I heard about Robin, he probably had that connection with everyone he crossed paths with.
Is still brings tears to my eyes watching Robin Williams 😁😔
I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Mr. Williams where he even did a little mini comedy bit at my expense (but it was worth it). We were at an exhibit of the amazing artist Yamagata I at an art store located at what was at the time the Sherman Oaks Galleria mall, circa 1984. I used to repair electronics for people and had a little flyer that I had with me (which I gave out as a business card) and I actually gave one to Robin Williams (thinking how cool it would be to repair electronics for this legend - remember I was very young). This was right around the time when his GREAT film "Moscow on the Hudson" had just come out and his costar, comedian/Actor Elya Baskin was also at the reception. Robin took my flyer and went up to Elya and pitched himself basically like I did, handing him the flyer asking if he might need any electronic repairs done in a very Robin-Williams high-energy way. Now looking back, I realize, as I write this, actually that I was part of an act by the great Robin Williams. I do remember a few people laughed including Elya 🙂
I still can't watch him on KZread it makes me cry, I miss him so much.
It's not often you can say that the world was a better place with him and a darker place without him.
I love Dave and Robin. Robin's death had a profound effect on me. Some of the funniest people struggle with depression. It's a great cover up. May he finally be internally happy.

Such a beautiful tribute. R.I.P. LEGEND. 💙
Robin Williams is one of the few famous people I truly felt sad for their passing. I was a very young boy when M and M came out, so soe of the jokes were on the "old" side, but his antics were funny. When he started to do movies, I was older and much more appreciative of his genius. And he truly was a genius. Up to now I still feel down when I think of his passing. I think of him as a crazy uncle.
"All of life is a coming home. All the restless hearts of the world, all trying to find a way home. It's hard to describe what I felt like then. Picture yourself walking for days in the driving snow; you don't even know you're walking in circles. The heaviness of your legs in the drifts, your shouts disappearing into the wind. How small you can feel, and how far away home can be. Home. The dictionary defines it as both a place of origin and a goal or destination. And the storm? The storm was all in my mind. Or as the poet Dante put it: In the middle of the journey of my life, I found myself in a dark wood, for I had lost the right path. Eventually I would find the right path, but in the most unlikely place." Robin Williams from 'Patch Adams' I hope you found your way home, friend... ♥️
A true volcano of talent. Rest in peace R. W.
What a great tribute to a legend. Robin Williams was one of a kind. Thanks Dave!
I remember hearing the news in my car while at work and the disbelief/shock I felt the rest of the day. Not just that he was gone but on his own terms. As someone who has struggled with mental pain it was a dark & disturbing slap of reality that anyone's tipping point could be any time in their lives. If you know anyone struggling, check on them from time to time.
It still makes me cry just to see him. If only somebody knew how scared and sad he was. That makes me so angry when I think about it. Sorry......I miss knowing he is here.❤
Well done David! There will only be one Robin Williams. He could use a pencil as a prop for a half hour and have you rolling on the floor laughing. Jim Carrey tries. The biggest differences between Robin and Jim is that Robin was genuine, cared about everyone he came in contact with, visited the troops, visited children hospitals, all without batting an eye. We were lucky to experience this comic genius. Thank you Robin for making us laugh while you suffered behind the scenes. What a guy!!
A Part Of My Childhood NaNu NaNu Gone But Never Forgotten R.I.P. Mr. Williams
Brings a tear to my eyes but a warm feeling in my heart. Thank you for the time you could spend with us Robin. Gone but NEVER FORGOTTEN. You are still making people laugh.
Crazy to think it's been over seven years now. You just don't know what pain others are going through, sometimes until it's too late. He was a beautiful, sweet, talented and hilarious human being who had too much to bear with behind all that. I lost a close friend and former supervisor three years ago this upcoming September to suicide. Like Robin, he was such a sweet guy but I never knew what he was struggling with until his passing. You just never know. Keep all the wonderful memories inside and know that someone who was hurting so badly is free from that hurt.
It's hard to believe it's been that long that he's been gone.

It started from his childhood
One of the really tough parts in this entire story is the fact that Lewy Body Dementia is only diagnosable post-mortem. Until some very bright people who have adequate funding and can develop the necessary diagnostic tools come along to turn that around, there are going to be more untimely deaths of otherwise healthy people. It really pains me to hear people say things like what Dave said at the very end. The hard truth is that no one could have known what Robin was going through. Other than trying to address and treat the symptoms (extreme depression, memory loss etc…), there is just no way to “cure” the disease at this time. Some day, that will no longer be the case.
“Oh that’s it- They’re going to have to put an end to show business” ❤ What a compliment at the START of Robin Williams’s career no less ❤
Letterman, the king of self deprecation. You can tell when he really likes someone. When I was 6 I had the t shirt and suspenders. Loved Mork form Ork. Rest In Peace and thank you for making us laugh until it hurt!!!

A true genius. And, everything he did showed he was a good soul. A touching tribute. It should be added that Robin also worked tirelessly to entertain the troops and raise millions, along with Billy Crystal, for the needy. And like a true gentleman and man he never let on that he was suffering. He is sorely missed.

Robin was one of only 4 comedians (that i know of) that had the RAREST ability to make you gasp for breath from laughing in one moment and have you sobbing a moment later. The 2nd one was the Greek comedy legend Thanasis Vegos (obviously i dont expect non-Greeks to know him, but he was the most universally beloved Greek actor ever), the 3rd one was Charlie Chaplin and the 4th one is Roberto Benigni. I will always appreciate Dave for acknowledging Robin’s struggles. It was hidden from the world so no one would be conflicted over their laughter and enjoyment of the skits.
Unique human being. Hilarious and incredibly funny. One of a kind. Will be missed forever.
Robin Williams was the funniest man who ever lived. There are lots of Academy Award winners, but to have the distinction of being the funniest man who ever lived, puts him in a class by himself. You may disagree, but here are my reasons: I knew Robin before he became a star. I was with those comics in Hollywood who David Letterman mentions when he, Robin, Jay Leno, Gabriel Kaplan, Richard Pryor, and many others were working at the Comedy Store and the Improvisation in the mid 1970's. Alan King said that the first time he saw Robin perform, he had the same reaction that Letterman and all other comedians had....they were amazed, and they all realized that Williams had taken the art of stand-up comedy to an entirely new level, dimension and realm. Every other comic had been copying every other comic who came before them. Every comic stood on the shoulders of his/her favorite predecessor. Robin stacked up all the predecessors into one enormous pile, then stood on top of that mountain. Two of his biggest influences were Jonathan Winters, and the dramatic acting he learned at Julliard. In music, there was only mediocrity until Johann Sebastian Bach came along. In Science, there was only a few important minds until Sir Isaac Newton came along. In comedy, there were only one-dimensional copycats until Robin Williams came along. His multi-dimensional performances combined every aspect of comedy and acting. His mind was capable of storing vast amounts of material, and despite his alcohol and drug issues, he had lightning-quick access to any part of his comedy database. He did physical comedy, witty comedy, intellectual comedy, goofy comedy, and dumb comedy. He spoke in animated voices and acted out characterizations of every type of personality who ever lived. He did impersonations, imitations, and he was able to combine them with any type of joke or physical comedy. This resulted in a totally new hybrid comedy performance. In addition to his ability to imitate any personality, he was an excellent speaker, and he could imitate any language, accent or sound effect. He was as quick as a gymnast on his feet, and more animated than every Disney movie ever made. The single most incredible thing about Robin Williams' ability as a comedy genius was the fact that he combined every single aspect of comedy into something new and fresh. He was never locked into any single character. He was limitless, fast, unpredictable, impressive, and always four jokes ahead of anyone who was listening. As other comedians were performing at the speed of sound, Robin performed at the speed of light. And, nothing is faster than the speed of light. As Letterman said, "he was electric". I'm not saying all this because I am simply a fan of his work. I'm saying this because I am also an observant critic of the art form of comedy. Comedians analyze other comics. They analyze such things as their concepts, joke writing, use of language, timing, pacing, and originality. Comedians will shun other comics who steal jokes or plagiarizes, yet Robin stole every joke and every funny thing ever written. He simply presented jokes in a new and turbo-charged way, so he made new comedy out of existing material. His originality was his ability to combine comedy writing, with characterizations and animations through acting. I just reviewed a list of 100 of the best comedians over the last 100 years. I am familiar with most of the people on that list, and their style of comedy, as well as their material. Robin Williams was not only funnier than all 99, but he also did their type of material better and faster. Audiences would always tune into any TV show, just to watch Robin do his unpredictable electric animated comedy. He was a phenomenon. Perhaps the greatest tribute to Robin Williams is the fact that during his lifetime as a comedian, and after his death in 2014, nobody, not one single comic has ever tried to copy him, or even do a comedic impersonation of him. Robin stood on the shoulders of all the comedians throughout history. But no comedian since has ever been able to climb so high that they could stand on his shoulders. He was the funniest man who ever lived.
Robin will never be matched.
Well done, Dave.
It strikes me that Dave is the only one left from that photo.
Beautiful tribute 😊
It's 2024 and ten years since Robin Williams left us, I still miss him dearly.
Can't lie this is the only youtube video that brings me to tears 😭😭
Ah yeah, I forgot Dave appeared in Mork and Mindy.
Dave is so sweet.
I had a good friend who ran a comedy open mic at a tiny coffee shop in San Francisco (The Marsh) and I would go support him. Often there would only be five or six people there, all fledgling stand ups except me, the only actual audience member. One night I went and nobody showed up. Just my friend and me. And Robin Williams. He asked if he could have some stage time and we were completely star struck. So of course! He proceeded to get on stage and talk to us for an hour, making jokes about our answers to his questions and putting on a master class of comedy. The next week he showed up again, this time with a person who recorded his routine. There were a few more people in the audience. The third week he showed up again (!) and by then the word had got out. He did an hour each time. Sadly he never came back. But he was so kind and above all else he was incredibly funny just riffing on me and and my buddy Mike being goofy kids sitting in front of him.
This tribute reel still makes me cry.
Appreciated this time capsule. I have not been able to watch anything with Robin Williams since his passing. This gave me the healing I needed. Some 8 years later. ❤🩹

Letterman was tearing up after the clip. How could he not? he lost a friend. This is a great remembrance of Robin Williams.

The next time I'm gonna be bummed like this will be on the news of Don Rickles' passing. Sad that Dave will probably be out of late night show to pay tribute to Rickles.

I know, really! A week later and it still feels like the planet lost a significant amount of oxygen.

Kleenex supply and demand has probably gone up about 50% this week.
That's so nice of David Letterman to dedicate the whole show to remembering Robin Williams. R.I.P
