I like THIS Conan. When he's being himself, hes a good communicator and personable. Of course Conan is funny but he has sincerity. That matters just as much. He did take Johnny Carson's advice. What a perfect tribute.

Interestingly enough Johnny was a co author of his theme song that was based off "toot sweet" 1959 by Paul Anka and recorded by Tutti's Trumpets, because Tonight Show bandleader Skitch Henderson refused to play a song written by a kid, so Carson wrote lyrics to the theme based of Toot Sweets other title It's Really Love, Johnny got 200,000 dollars a year for royalties for the song. Since the song was copywritten with Johnny as co-author along with Paul the lyrics that Johnny wrote for the song must still exists somewhere.

One of the best things about Conan is his willingness to be transparent... he isn't phony or fake like so many hosts on talk shows or people in show business ... he really opens his heart in a tactful way when it's needed.. this was an interesting and humble remembrance of his experience with Johnny Carson... enjoyed watching the video... thank you

Conan, in his wacky and goofy self, is the last of the great late night talk show hosts. He makes sure to make himself to be as relatable and approachable to America. And he modeled himself after Carson. And he’s done an outstanding job. I see a lot of Carson videos with people just ripping Jimmy Fallon to pieces. And I feel that’s wrong. I feel we wrongly compare Fallon and Conan to Carson. Is Fallon right for everybody?? No, he’s not. But, let him be him. Let him be himself, just like Carson told Conan.

No u don't get the hate for fallon other than being an awful host. Its cus he got the best talk show gig thanks to carson being the tonight show which letterman and conan deserved. Fallon knowing the pressure of the gig and knowing he doesn't deserve it became a much worse host in terms of faking energy and saying everything is the best the greatest and that he loves everything. Its annoying as fuck.

Brian Orr I think Conan, Craig Ferguson, and fallon were the nervous guys at first who made it work by being theirselves. Now I think Conan and Craig Ferguson are on a higher level than fallon, but Conan and fallon were the wacky goofy guys who were being theirselves, gave the show time to develop, and it ended up working. Conan was a nobody at first but became a star with this show. Fallon was established from SNL but had a bad acting career, late night ad the tonight show saved his legacy. Ferguson on the other hand, was the Scottish actor who was very nervous but then he became a big hit with audiences because of his silly antics like Geoff Peterson, secretariat, and the puppets, his witty monologues, and his down to earth nature as a naturalized American who showed decency when necessary like when he refused to joke about Britney Spears during her meltdown. They all earned their talk show success, I just wish we still had Craig Ferguson.

@@Blood0cean I agree, Fallon doesn't compare with the greats because he's not genuine like they were. He overdoes the asskissing and of course the fake laughing he's famous for and tries incredibly hard to pander to a younger audience. He just seems like he's aching for acceptance and he direly lacks the charisma of someone who should be hosting the Tonight Show.

@@j5689 i think u r sadly correct. He had many questionable ppl on. The asskissing became suspicious, but so did him with Reagan. He said he never put controversy on but he threw in Bill Clinton, Gore Vidal, or William F. Buckley, Jr.

I remember watching Johnny Carson in 1962. I was just a young kid. Living in Northern California redwoods. We only had three channels it would come in clear. I grew up with grandfather. Was bedtime go to bed. But I would stay up late to watch The Tonight Show. On NBC starring Johnny Carson. Just to see all the different people that would come on on that. From then on I tried to watch him every night. Up to the day he retired. 😢😥🏌️‍♂️🙏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙋🏽‍♂️😊😎😥. he took the Slauson cutoff🛣

With all due respect to anybody who might have a different opinion, but I honestly believe that Conan has been, if not the greatest, one of the best late-night hosts ever. I am genuinely a big fan. I used to stay up late just to watch his show every single night, but now thank God for technology we can watch these shows over and over. Thanks for all the laughs, Conan.

To me, Conan should have been the heir to Carsons throne.. everyone said it was letterman or Leno, but in terms of genuine comedy, timing and wit, sprinkled with organic relationship with the audience, it's conan forsure. I still feel Conan will find himself back on top of the throne in late night eventually. It's just on him if he wants to continue being in show business, right now he's currently retired from hosting a talk show and doing a podcast. And I think he may have something coming up for HBO, but I truly feel he will be the rightful king if he chooses to do so.

What a great tribute. Conan is such a gentleman and a student of his craft. He respected his position and those that came before him. He should've been the person still carrying the Tonight Show franchise to this day. What a crime that situation was. I still don't think we know the full reason as to why he was pushed out because none of it made any sense. He was the rightful person and late night TV has never recovered.

I gather that KZread commenters have passionate feelings about their favorite late night talk show hosts. Their passion is apparently so fierce that it prohibits them from ever enjoying fresh comedy again, so they spend all their time slapping at each other in the comments section of decades-old video clips that they themselves willingly clicked on for amusement. Have fun out there, y'all!

Conan is great but Carson will always be remembered as the King of Late Night. Several hosts have tried to live up to his title; Conan, Leno, Kimmel, Letterman, Fallon, Kilborn, Colbert, Corden, but none of them really come close to what Johnny accomplished at the time he was host of the Tonight Show. His personality was truly one of a kind. Johnny really set the standard. I enjoy Conan's humor but he is by far no Johnny Carson. Conan is highly irreverent and is very humorous and gifted but he can't host a show like Johnny could. That goes for Leno, Kimmel, Letterman and the rest. I forgot to mention Seth Meyers who is nowhere near what Johnny was.
