I was so so sad to hear of The Great Derek Fowlds passing and I was genuinely upset. I actually wrote to him years and years ago, never thinking I would get a reply. But Derek did write a lovely letter back, and included a Christmas Card and a book too. He seemed amazed that his fans thought such a lot of him. Just after his passing, a friend of his sent me some photos of Derek and a card too, which was so thoughtful of her. I will treasure these things forever. Just goes to prove there are some beautiful and kind people in this world. RIP Mr Derek - BOOM BOOM!! ❤

@@mickharrison9004 I get the impression that Derek and Bill Maynard were very good friends. I never miss Heartbeat and it’s even more enjoyable when the actors are friends who get on well with each other.

Wonderful man, and wonderful actor. Comedic genius.

I wish I could tell him how much Heartbeat meant to me growing up, even now.

May not what he wanted to be remembered for, and he was SO much more, but he was hands down the best support for Basil Brush ever.

Basil Brush and Derek got me through some awful times

Enjoying him again in the repeat showings of Heartbeat presently. So many of the other cast sadly gone too.

People like Derek really have no idea how much they enrich the lives of millions of people, given the enormity of the gift that's really quite sad. But it's still a wonderful gift.. :)

A little more than a year now since Mr. Fowlds passed, but we'll remember him and his superb acting always.

I loved him and Basil Brush as a kid. So sad to hear that he has passed.

He was a great actor, especially in Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister, and handsome in those series as well, a very attractive man. A shame he died, the three of them in those series were a great team, I loved them.

Yes some of the rags they get knighted and they have Derek out. Everything that's wrong with the system and the advice HM gets. Surely she had an independent thought in the process.

What a lovely thing, had the pleasure of Derek's company up at The Mallyan & in Goathland many times over the years. Such a lovely, kind, engaging & generous man. Will be so sadly missed but fondly remembered. This is the first time I can recall though that I've seen him without his gold signet ring on his little finger, he wore that for years.

Derek really keeps that elegance and purity till the last minute of his life. One of my favorite actors. RIP good sir.

I am old enough to remember when Derek Fowlds was 'Mr Derek', sidekick and human stooge for Basil Brush! He brought a lot of pleasure to many in a long acting career. We should mourn his passing but celebrate his achievements.

I am of the generation that remembers Derek Fowlds as 'Mr Derek' in the Basil Brush show. 'Though I also remember him in Yes Minister, my immediate memories are of autumnal Saturday tea-time with Mr Derek and Basil!

Enjoyed Derek and greengrass in heartbeat. The banter and flack was natural and great.

I've been watching heartbeat for the last month and seen all episodes. Its become my favorite show. I discovered it in you tube. Great actors especially Mr. Maynard, Oscar, Gina, nick, Jason, the nurse, the other Sargeant. Sorry can't remember some of their names. The older and the other young policeman. And handsome guys and beautiful girls. Love the 60's outfit,, hairdo and the music. They were all great. The show will never grow old. I miss Greengrass, Oscar, Ben, and the older policeman

A wonderful man and a great actor! For me it is special to see that he grew to look a little bit like my father in his later years, but my father died in 1994 when he was only 67. Derek was 82. RIP Derek Fowlds!

Could anyone please get the This is your life episode from 1993. I would love to watch it because I didn't watch it first time round as I was only 8 back then. Although I did watch Heartbeat around that time with my Mum, Dad, Brother and Sister on Sunday nights before school next day.

Yeah great actor and remember him with Basil Brush! I was lucky enough to meet him quite by chance one day in South Cave in the late 90's at Cave Castle in Yorkshire where he was attending a wedding and the band I was in at the time had just arrived to play another wedding there...lovely bloke! Stood chatting with us for a while! Wish I'd got a photo! Where can we see the whole doc plz? I know clips are on here! RIP Derek!

That scene in the rear of the limo with Bernard explaining the appointments and their abbreviated interpretation was priceless and the fondest memory I have never forgotten. 'What does KCMG equate to Bernard? 'Kindly call me God'. E.t.c. The show was a failure unless those 3 displayed their own individual brilliance in it. He wasn't limited either He was a truly talented actor.

Very interesting but if I may give some constructive criticism, the background music wasn't background enough. I had to listen to some parts of what Derek was saying more than once because the piano was too loud.
