s trav Has mass murdered in Europe been committed more than 20 times in 2 years with a vehicle? Have people in Europe purposely killed more people with cars in the past 10 years than the amount of Americans killed in war? Mass shootings have become apart of American culture, that's how frequent these things happen. Stop trying to compare 2 to 3 incidents with a yearly problem we have.

Gottenburg but you are the ones refusing to see the meaning behind the movement, the movement is not about the people in the movement but rather the people the movement effect. The BLM movement isnt just the people who go on to the point of being violent, there's also people who've lost too many people they love because of police brutality and blatant racism. You are the ones killing us. So yes i stand by my first statement, please leave. If you dont understand the meaning of BLM and why it really matters then you're not a person i even need to spend time arguing with on KZread. Just go.

I may not agree on your views about guns Trevor, but I do respect the fact that you understand that this is the time to talk about it. People who refuse to discuss issues are cowards regardless of what their views are. I hope that we can make the country safer without making all firearms illegal, but I understand that things need to change. Thank you for bringing it up.

Boogleooger we definitely need more regulations on who can and can't own guns, there's other issues like mental healthcare that play a role and the fact we waste money, time and resources on imprisonment of non violent drug offenders rather than going after real criminals. There's a lot that goes into this but creating a licensing system for gun ownership is a good step to take. I don't believe in prohibition but I do believe in smart regulation.

Here's a suggestion. Look at Japan and how they deal with "gun control". It's a very thorough screening process both psychological and past histories. There is a test you must take annually to qualify to own one. Which you have to be trained to professionally use one in the so called "a criminal is threating you or someone etc. You are to check in with the police department on a 3 month basis and to report in etc. Also the limit of magazines and ammunition you can have at once. People say it wouldn't work because of the population difference but I disagree since they have I believe under a hundred deaths to guns every year on average. While our system has constant mass shootings occasionally with automatic weapons. Why? Because our government doesn't regulate it to where law abiding citizens can own guns at a limit or atleast checkups to certify oneself.

Born and raised in America and not once have I felt as though I needed to own a gun and that it was some innate right for me to own something directly designed to kill with no alternate use. I can't abide the argument that accessibility to guns will allow you to be more safe when the society you're living in allows those who would do you harm the exact same weapons. There are problems in other parts of the world, but there simply won't be "mass shootings" in places where guns aren't permitted to the public. It's not a matter of whether someone needs a gun for themselves either, it's the fact that when you make them available at all you're just asking for people to have terminator-like arsenals with nothing to stop them killing than how they feel that day. Guns aren't evil, people are - but those who are wouldn't have access to the fucking tools to exercise it on a legal basis.

Trevor Noah is distorting death and destruction for his own gain and glory or to sound intelligent. When you look at the mass shootings, these people who have committed these crimes have passed the background checks or have gotten someone else to purchase the weapon. The problem is not the weapon, the problem is people and our corrupt government. People do not trust our government enough to put down the ability to own high powered weapons, and other people are full of hate and regardless of our laws, will find a way to kill. Look at that liberal democrat that shot at the politicians practicing baseball. Where the indoctrination for hate is promoted to violence, this has overtaken civility.

When we see most people on Tv not recognizing the real problem here in question, it's so sad (to quote someone). I live in Europe and guns are the main reason the US is at the bottom of the list of places to visit in my life. The reason being I can get shot for no damn reason by a guy who doesn't know who I am, how I've lived my life... It just takes one bullet to end you, to end someone you hold dear. It just takes one person, with one gun, with one bullet that doesn't have the best of lives, that just got laid off, that just went through a divorce, you name your reason. It just takes that one person 1 second to put an end to all your opportunities in life. But then again, instead of having guns at shooting ranges in a controlled environment (anything from pistols to tanks), where you can shoot your heart's content within that designated area, people much rather have guns to "defend" themselves, to "defend" against the government. Honestly... I hope the people of the US wake up, start protesting and start acting like a democracy, you've stopped being that since the Vietnam war protests. Your 2 party system, bought by lobbyists looks more like a rincky dink 3rd world political system where the people keep hush because they content with what they have and stopped fighting for anything better. Assemble, protest, it's your country, they're your lives that are going down the drain, that are missing out on all the opportunities to live out a life free of fright. To end, stop being so hypocritical in saying you're the greatest, richest bla bla like silver spoon fed teen. Grow up, ban guns, introduce universal healthcare, free college, pay your tens of trillions in debt, eliminate student loan debt, build your infrastructure and actually fight for a better democracy and a better future. Think about this, do you still have your freedom? or is it governed by how much money you have? PS: the 2nd Amendment was a great piece in the constitution for its time, you had outside threats while still consolidating your country and to no cost for the government, it had an army (a militia) to protect against invaders, to protect against wild animals and thieves. Now you have a standing army, you have police (granted, with not that much training and that shoot because they're afraid you'll shoot them) and the wild animals are pretty much gone. Please excuse the rant, I don't often comment on articles, but sometimes it just gets to me as to why people prefer being so ignorant and apathetic and staying behind their white picket fences while the world around them is going to s**t.

Mogosan Andrei hey, we have plenty of beautiful places to visit, and being shot is actually one of the least likely things to happen to you, in spite of our almost dogmatic insistence on “the right to bear arms”. That said, as a Puerto Rican American (I don’t live on puerto rico, so don’t worry about me personally), you’ve no idea how destitute and misrepresented I feel by what’s going on in my nation right now. Apparently, talking about gun control is inappropriate, my people are lazy, and trump thinks he’s the best because he shows sympathy to Nazi’s and white people, but trashes my people and dedicates a damned golf trophy to us in our time of need.

That source is comparing things that are unrelated. The issue isn't crime in it's entirety, because many factors contribute to different crimes. What we're concerned with here are homicides by shootings. Since Australia's gun ban, they have a rate of .16 homicides by shooting per 100,000 people. Meanwhile in the US, the rate of death by shootings (not self-inflicted or suicide) is 3.6 people per 100,000. If we look at statistics just in the US, states with stricter gun laws actually do have fewer gun deaths than the national average. The national average deaths (including suicides) by shooting is 10.64 per 100,000 people. New York has 4.39 deaths per 100,000 people, California has 7.89 deaths per 100,000 people, Massachusetts has 3.18 deaths per 100,000 people; Texas has 10.50 deaths per 100,000 people, Nevada has 14.16 deaths per 100,000 people (these numbers are from before the last massacre), Louisiana has 19.15 deaths per 100,000 people.

If I'm being quite honest these types of shootings don't get much of a reaction out of me anymore (obviously the Las Vegas one did but the smaller ones) it's because I remember turning on the TV at 6 years old just hearing "major shooting in..." "historic shooting in ..." "someone shot up ...." its sad to know at the age of only 15 I have lived through hundreds of shootings, one involving children yet nothing has been done. Conservatives often say "gangs will go crazy and they will shoot us" but honestly at this point we have to look at the numbers, over 10k people a year due to homicide let's say we ban guns that number will definitely go down, even if it's to 1k that's a significant change. I hate how now we look at individual people with their own stories to tell as numbers but sometimes that's what has to be done. Conservatives these wearnt "50+ dead" this is "50+ lives lost, 100's of family members and friends in grief, vows not said, goodbyes not said, and families that now have no parents, children that will wake up the next morning run into their parents room to wake up their dad to realize he isn't there. It's selfish that you want to keep guns to protect yourselves how about the others?

  • @Anon54387

For one thing, I've never shot anyone. We've a right to self defense, and it's ridiculous to recognize a right to self defense only to deny the tools people use to defend themselves. Most of those 10,000 who die are criminals being shot by other criminals. It is actually rare for someone not engaged in a life of crime to be murdered. It's all about the company you keep. The percentage of people who are murdered that are criminals is as high as 90% in some cities. The odd case where someone is attacked that is not a criminal is why we have the right to carry guns. Even most police go through their entire careers without firing their gun, but they carry one just in case. Same with non-law enforcement. It's not unlike wearing a seatbelt. Most of us will drive our entire lives and never be in an auto accident, but the consequences could be so severe for not wearing a seatbelt that we wear seatbelts. There are more cases where people use guns for self defense than you would think. Look it up. Would you really have people defenseless. And they aren't always defending themselves against others with guns. A 15 year old kid had three people armed with knives break in while his parents were still at work. He shot them with a rifle. One person against three others with knives is not a good prospect without a gun. Or the guy in Seattle getting his morning coffee to find the clerk being attacked by a man with a hatchet. He had his pistol and shot the hatchet wielding man. Women jogging on foot paths would be well advised to carry guns. The list goes on, and on, and on.

+Anon54387 Why is it then, in all the European countries who have stricter gun laws, we rarely face these situations that happens so often in the US? Yes, criminal gangs have weapons, but due to restrictions, they are also harder to get for them - especially weapons with high capacity clips! You do agree it's a lot easier to either defend yourself or run away from someone who's threatening you with a bat or a knife, than it is if you have to deal with someone pointing an AR-15 at you with a 30 round clip, right? Almost no one is saying you can't have guns, just that the process of getting them needs to be much stricter! Where I live we have really strict gun laws, perhaps also a bit too strict, (I love shooting guns), but I simply can't argue that we need less restrictive laws just for my amusement! I have to accept the limitations as it makes it hell of a lot safer to live here!
