Interview with Oklahoma State Sen. Nathan Dahm | The Problem with Jon Stewart

Комедия

State Sen. Nathan Dahm (R-OK) has penned several bills loosening gun restrictions, including the nation's first anti-red flag law against restricting gun access to those deemed dangerous. Not only does he want to protect the Second Amendment, but he also believes guns make us safer. We think it's probably one or the other. Then the dude tries to tell his story of the woman who had a restraining order on her boyfriend … and Jon Stewart interrupted him because THAT is an anecdote. And anyway, I’m thinking most of us who support common sense gun laws would totally support that woman purchasing a weapon AFTER she passed a background check and, in my opinion, got some basic training on the weapon’s operation or demonstrated proficiency on that particular weapon, I’m sure that guy’s comeback from his anecdotal story would’ve been that the ex-boyfriend came that night and she had to use her gun foe protection and a waiting period for a background check would have caused her to get protection too late. Well, that’s life. I’m sure the person in need of a kidney donation needs it TONIGHT and not NEXT WEEK. But there are organ donation procedure, regulations and restorations. I know it’s not the same, but sometimes someone in a life threatening situation ends up on the short end of the stick so that overall society works for many more people. But the woman (& everybody in a similar position) must take responsibility for her own safety while waiting on the “ok” for her desired gun purchase and training to go through. If you’re worried you need a gun RIGHT NOW, life or death situation, you need to stay with family or a friend or if you have nobody, contact a shelter or the police. Her inability to plan ahead (& I know, I know she might not have known, it’s not her fault, but we can’t make everyone else unsafe just because of this one in a million situation) and realize she might should get a gun before the ex-boyfriend becomes violent should not cause ALL THE REST OF US TO BE UNSAFE BECAUSE IS GETTING BACKGROUND CHECKED.

Because John thinks he’s smarter than he is. Don’t misunderstand I’m not saying John is a stupid person he’s not he’s a very intelligent guy who I agree with on a lot of subjects. I blamed China for the Wuhan leak within the first week of the outbreak, and that was just based off deductive logic with little evidence but I was shocked to hear him say it to Colbert. On this particular issue he really is not a voice of reason, nor does he have a compelling argument. And I’m going to say this, with the assumption, it will be criticized… But I mean this whole heartedly… aside from a few of us in the country, who have absolutely no power to help the issue in anyway… No one cares about the REAL cause of the gun violence in the country as it relates to mass shootings/shooters. Not the bulk of the citizens, and seemingly none of those in a position of power to make any meaningful statements , suggestions, or actions. No one Just like no one cares/cared if they were still any sex slaves on Epstein’s island after he and his Madame were arrested. And I say this as someone who tried to encourage such discussions around the time these would have been immedietly relevant to discuss, having encouraged discussion online more than dozens of times on both issues… more than a few venues and multiple times… No one cared to discuss it …

@@nicholas_l of course he refuses to say it out of either cognitive dissonance or strategic reasons. However, neither of those two justify it. A public official lying, or refusing to admit the truth, isn't okay because it's strategic or cognitive dissonance. So quit justifying his unethical behavior simply because it's, perhaps, "strategic'. That doesn't make his policy stances here logical or ethical to his responsibility and sworn oath to serve the public - not himself. Your attempted justification simply further reinforces the self-serving, unethical behavior he's demonstrating that is being highlighted here. Simply put, you aren't helping his case with that self-serving reasoning like you think you are. You're also skewing the point here. The issue being pointed out here is the logic, or lack thereof, behind his policy stances, not his behavioral reasoning for his lying that you are deflecting toward. Whether it because he refuses to accept reality, or because he refuses to admit it for strategic purposes, he's still ignoring reality.

White americans have the most guns per capita, their homicide rate is both lower than the national average and lower than Europe's average. hen it's been so well demonstrated here and in Australia when gun bans were introduced. -Australia already had a low and declining homicide rate. @@californiaslastgasp6847 There's a difference. For voting, the ID is to match your registered voting ID, and polling location against a national database. It's to prove you are who they have listed. For guns its to prove your age and give a name for a background check that does not include a national database, only in-state information. That means criminals can go across to any other states and purchase guns. On top of this, only 20 states currently do a full background check. Most of them just enter the owner into their own customer database. You have about as hard a time buying alcohol as you do guns in 32 states. @@HISHAM931Okay, let me substanstiate then. Here we go- 1) Jon believes the term "well regulated" in the 2nd amendment means controlled or supervised by the government. In the late 18th century when the 2nd amendment was written, the term well regulated meant well organized or properly functioning and not what Jon thinks it means. It certainly did not mean that the state should b controlling the militias. (Source: Jack Norman Rakove, American historian, author and professor at Stanford University and Pulitzer Prize winner) 2) Jon says he isn't against the 2nd amendment and he doesn't wanna ban guns. But just a few moments ago he misinterpreted the phrase "well regulated" which is a collective rights argument often made by people who don't believe there's an individual right to own firearms. U can look up collective rights theory if u wanna go into details of it. The Supreme court in 2008 District of Columbia v. Heller ruled that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms-unconnected with service in a militia. 3) Another slight of hand Jon does here is that he uses gun deaths and not gun homicides. Gun deaths also include suicides and accidents. He intentionally uses gun deaths to pad up the numbers for adding more weight to his argument. It's not that these deaths don't matter but using them in a gun violence conversation is deceitful to say the least. 4) He talks about background checks but we already have those in place. Straw purchases r already illegal. What they r asking for is universal background checks. Its a well intended idea but the problem with it is that it's completely useless without a federal searchable database to check against i.e national gun registry. He draws a false equivalecy between voting and gun registration. Gun registration doesn't act as a deterrent to crime or mass shootings. It only tells the government who the gun is registered to. But I have to agree that gun registration isn't completely useless. It can definitely aid the government at the time of confiscating firearms as we saw in Australia,Nazi Germany,UK,China,South Africa,New Zealand to name a few. In all these places gun registration was brought in for "safety and to reduce crime/violence". 5) The leading cause of death among "children" in this country is firearms. If u categorize 17,18 and 19 year olds engaging in gang violence as "children", then it's absolutely true🙄 What an abomination of a study this! It has been debunked so many times but idiots like Jon Stewart keep peddling the same bs over and over again. Unfortunately, dumb senators like these fail to call him out. This is just from the first half of the video. Pay attention, may b could identify a few more by urself.

Actually look up these stats he's using and actually scrutinize them, you'll realize how misleading he is intentionally being. 50,000 deaths a year, 54% is suicides 33% of murders is 17-35 year old black males, that's also where you get those "child" deaths from. Just actually look at the numbers from the CDC, ATF and other organizations. The answer is there if you aren't too lazy to find it.

What I want to know is WHY on earth doesn’t EVERY reporter grab these slippery grifters by the hair (metaphorically. although it would be more fun literally) and just keep repeating the question they just deflected until they get an answer? I have watched this happen countless times in the trump cult era. A reporter asks a question & they redirect & deflect, so the reporter chases the deflection or moves on to the next question as if the goal here was quantity over quality? Also, if it is a bunch of reporters, why doesn’t the next one say “You haven’t answered this question yet” and stay on it instead of trying to get THEIR question asked? It helps them weasel out of giving any actual answers by changing the topic they are trying to avoid. Then the next one asks it. Then the next one until they find an elevator & dive into it like it was a storm shelter & a tornado is coming.

na its just pick someone who isn't good at debating and doesn't have well rehearsed arguments and set up gotcha moments along with premeditated set up questions as bait. Like over 50% of gun deaths are suicides, Just leave that out because then its not as shocking when they aren't all murders. Or that the majority of mass shooters did or would have passed a background check. Or gang violence accounts for a large majority of shootings, so registration, background checks or any other legal obstacles are irrelevant.

Pretty easy when the ine he is interviewing dies not even have enough basic knowledge to counter. We love the fact so many are calling this a master piece of an interview. Someone knowledgeable on actual stats would have called BS on Jon Stewart right away. His numbers were incorrect and true 2nd amendment supporters know this. Jon Stewart had this discussion with someone who actually does not represent the people . He did not speak for the everyday person who is a lawful firearm owner. Because we all have seen what happens when they actually do have a sit down with someone who actually knows stats and is well versed. That is when you all get frustrated and start changing topics and yourselves get flustered. While you are all sitting there bragging about this interview. We just added 4 times more new firearm owners. And remember . States are changing their stance. Constitutional carry is spreading. Mainly because the numbers you all keep throwing together are actually not supported.. Throwing gang related into the firearm stats when it is suppose to be against the 2nd amendment. So why not actually break those numbers down before calling this a win? We all know you wont. It doesn't support your narrative. Heck even the FBI and CDC when looking in not the correct stats saw what we here on the 2nd amendment side have said all along. Some of us laughed at this interview. Because the true fact is when you are walking the streets of Chicago or NY . It is not a legally owned firearm you will see flash before your eyes. That is a real criminal with a real illegally obtained firearm who is about to add to your over bloated misrepresented stats. And if any if you were honest you would admit this.

yeah, it was funny, but it wasn't a good argument from Jon though. the point of a voter registration is to provide ID to prove who you say you are and have the valid right to vote. We already have the exact same function for guns with background checks. They check to make sure you are who you say you are and that you are allowed to exercise that right. A gun registry doesn't actually do anything to prevent crimes. A list of legal gun owners doesn't do anything to stop criminals.

Stewart, being the liar he is keeps saying "gun deaths". He doesnt say murders. Those same news papers put the number of numbers at 10k. The rest are justifiable homicides(cops and justified self defense) and suicide which makes up over 50% of ALL gun deaths). (f) he's making a point more guns = more death but doesnt bother to take into account how many times people used a gun in self defense, WHICH IS THE ASSERTION OF THE CONGRESSMAN. More guns = people safer. The CDC says put use a gun in self defense (they dont even have to shoot to be included) between 500,000 and 3million times PER YEAR. Stewarts entire thesis is a straw man. How many of those defensive uses of a gun would have resulted in those people being murdered? Cops dont carry guns because it makes them less safe. The more people who have a gun for self defense, the more lives will be saved. (g) He claims theres no background checks. Stewarts smart and I'm sure he has a research staff. Theres no way he isnt aware that EVERY NEW gun as well as used gun that is sold through a FFL, including at gun shows, by federal law MUST go through a background check. The ATF monitors that very closely. (h)I'm pro 2a, but you must have a permit!. What other right do you need a permit for? You need to register! 1st off, every gun (the overwhelming major) that goes through a background check, the government illegally keeps as a de facto gun registry). Registration leads to confiscation. Pistol brace is a perfect example. Something thats been 100% legal for over 10 years all of a sudden by fiat been declared illegal by unelected bureaucrats by making declaring they are magically rifles. So before such time as the lawsuits work they're way through the courts the alphabet boys are at your door because they know exactly what you have and where you live. The government, on a whim can make something out of whole cloth, like the bump stock. A piece of plastic the decided was a machine gun. After the law suit, it went back to not being a machine gun. So the gov shows up and confiscates and when the lawsuit is won, the gov says "gee, really sorry we destroyed all of those.

    (i) How do you know who has a problem is you dont know who you're giving a gun to. Its called living in a free[?] society. Innocent until PROVEN guilty. Criminals dont buy guns legally, they're criminals. A background check catches felons and those adjudicated mentally defective (again, goes back to anti 2a lie theres no BGC, which stewart is a part of). Anyone else, if they have a restraining order or whatever, they're breaking the law by buying a gun when they shouldnt. Theres no pre-cog crime like minority report. like anyone. You can only catch someone after they committed a crime with the gun. Stewart would have the audience believe if someone has a order of protection and is murderer the cops would be stumped and not have a gun who would have shot them (j)Chaos instead of order. uh, what?!?!?!? It IS his subjected opinion. Jesus! Is there total anarchy in his state? Are the streets running red with blood? Has government service cease to function? Stewart saying he's bringing chaos is 100% bullshit. And he knows it. His definition of chaos is allowing people to do person to person transfers of guns without government intervention (no BGC). Thats been going on since forever. There has never been a federal law requiring BGC between private individuals. If there hasnt been chaos yet, anything the politician is doing to keep the status quo wont bring chaos. (k)Stewart claims its about saying lives, but he give zero fucks about way more dead people, he only care that people dont die from guns. (L) makes it less safe for cops on a DV call. Great so cops know theres a person with a gun who is now so agitated they hit someone, or whatever the case may be. What does he think the cops are going to do. Come in blasting, come in With weapons drawn. We know how thing work out for people when cops are involved and their guns are out. slightest movement and cops shoot 1st ask questions later. How does that reduce gun deaths (the number stewart uses includes people smoked by cops). He also throws in a straw man about why dont cops feel safer if theres more guns in the house. Thats not premise of more guns make us safer. When seconds count, cops are minutes away. Guns make people safer because self defense/preservation is our job. VERY RARELY are cops around to save someones life. Cops write reports after the fact. Again, 500k-3mil defensive use of guns by citizens (M) voting rights. No where in the constitution does it say we have the right to vote. The word doesnt appear in the constitution until the 14a. The constitution was amended 4 more time dealing with the subject of voting but it doesnt say anything about it being a right, unlike the 2a which clearly states its a right to bear arms. SCOTUS did rule voting was a right, but scotus can issue a different opinion in a case that could say it isnt a right.

I enjoy a lot of Jon's positions but he fundamentally misunderstands the current decisions of the court (and laws surrounding it, I would imagine). There are many laws preventing obscene or sexual content being given to minors for a non-artistic, non-educational purposes. It is not a matter of whether or not you are infringing on someone's right when you restrict them from doing something to a child which is not even their own but whether or not the law allows the child to partake in it. He definitely did well against the Senator from what we can see; I would love to listen to the interview uncut.

when he says "The leading cause of children's death is Firearms" that implies images of little kids being shot in a school when in reality, those numbers are mostly gangsters in the cities between ages of 15-18. Anything under 18 is called a "child" in the statistics, kinda different when a 17 year old selling drugs and being involved in gang activity gets shot, it's not the same as a 6 year old child being shot in a classroom. And those deaths almost all of them are with illegal hand guns that would not be stopped by increasing restrictions and regulations on legal gun owners or banning AR-15. He only made "good points" if you are ignorant, sadly.
