Trek Fuel EX Review - 2020 Bible of Bike Tests

Спорт

Trek burlied up the Fuel EX, pulling the bike deeper into more aggressive terrain with 2.6-inch tires, a 140-millimeter-travel Fox 36 fork and updated geometry that is still just conservative enough to keep the handling fun across a wide range of riding styles. Find the full review and much, much more at BikeMag.com.

I just picked up this same bike, love it. Been on trek for many years. They are def safe bikes in terms of a bike that just works for a lot of things

I have the 2019 Fuel EX8 and was surprised to see that many of the mods I added appeared on the 2020 model in similar ways, such as a longer 140mm fork air shaft, bigger Maxxis Minion 2.5" tyres and Hope V4 4-piston brakes with bigger rotors. It's good to see that Trek is keeping up with trends without going overboard.

@@jaceizzonn877 I bought my first one back in 2001 when they first came out. I sold it and bought a Yeti 575 in 2005. I sold that and bought another Fuel. It was stolen, so I bought my third Fuel EX 8. Rode that until 2010, then got a Giant Trance X and rode that until 2017. Then I bought my latest EX 8. I really like this bike and keep coming back to it. I would consider the Ibis Mojo. My buddy has been riding one for years and its a sweet bike.

Piers B. You’re the person I’ve been wanting to find! One who runs a megneg on the thrushaft reactive shock. By the sounds of things you would definitely recommend? I think I’m gonna get it.

@@louisabbey2370 I would recommend it. At least for the SRAM based ReActive shocks - this year they are with Fox and I have no idea how the Neg Air Chamber is on those shocks. Anyway - it adds mid stroke support and of the top suppleness that just wasn't there with the standard setup. Same with the Luft Klappe on the Fox 36 Performance Fork - off the top, the fork was stfff as heck but good mid and bottom. Now, it is buttery smooth but with good progression for the hard hits. Not huge spend items but they make a big difference.

BUT... how does the EX 8 fair against its $7.5k brethren? It doesn’t get the Fox rear shock with the Thru-shaft, or the Fox 36 fork, so is it anywhere close to the bike you’re testing? As much as I like the EX 9.9, the Ex 8 is more my budget.

This is why I believe that if your bike budget is bigger than 3k you should buy a boutique bike. Their performance per dollar past 3k is way better. Treks frame and suspension designs tap out at that point.

Hi man, I am in Seattle area too and on the market for a new bike. Have you tried the new Remedy? In your experience how would the Fuel EX handle let's say Tiger Mountain in the uphills and blue downhills? I can't decide between the two and unfortunately, I can just test ride them on the street : /. Also the weight kind of worries me, I can't believe the Remedy is lighter according to Trek's website.

  • @williammarshall4277

Enrique Jaimes, you really can’t go wrong with the remedy. Just a good all around bike. The fuel ex is a shorter travel bike and it’s fine for most trails, but I would do the remedy if you want a more all mountain bike. I’d also look at the IBIS AL Ripmo. That’s one hell of a bike for 2900 bucks. There is a shop in Kirkland that sells them and has demos. Most bike shops are open right now...I know center bikes in Renton is and they carry trek, specialized and Santa Cruz. Hope that helps

erikaslt true. I’ve never ridden this bike before, but I’ve got a 2018 Santa Cruz Hightower LT with more travel and weights 1 1/2 lbs lighter and cost me less to build. And thats a flickable bike compared to my 2018 Pivot Mach 6. Once again with more travel then the Trek. And possibly more capable than the Trek. Oh at the same weight and price as the Trek. All I’m saying is that for the weight and travel, thats a steep price.
