Revel Rail Review - 2020 Bible of Bike Tests

Спорт

The Revel Rail passed the WHOOP test. As in, whoever rode it would almost immediately start hooting and hollering through the Park City woods. Find the full review and much, much more at BikeMag.com.

    “We shouldn’t write off 27.5 yet”. Or ever! Still make a lot of sense for a lot of riders. If your local trails are tighter, twisty rides, with short punchy descents and climbs, it’s still spot on. Glad they included some 27.5 rigs in the reviews.

    I can't get why a review like this has such a low number of views. In my opinion, listening your thoughts about the bike worths much more than having the specs I can check everywhere. Awesome guys, keep going!

    Canfield and Revel deserve way more recognition than they get. My 2016 Balance is 34lbs and I have not once used the compression switch. Wide open, all the time, and zero problems. It’s black magic. Glad to see Revel keeping the technology alive.

    Shows that large bike manufactures are focused on snake oil innovation to sell bikes. It seems to take a bike nerd with a dream that can bypass the bean counters to bring true game changing products to market. Well done Revel.

    Yup. Glad there's still boutique shops available that have that passion and all-in commitment to building the best bikes possible. Santa Cruz is probably the only bike manufacturer that plays with the big boys but still has that personal feel to it. Pivot and Revel are the only other bikes I'd ever consider despite Pivot going with the press fit BB (Chris their CEO truly believes when done right with strict tolerances it's the better option).

    I never understood that. At the time the Balance came out, you could ride it and immediately tell it was one of the best all around all mountain bikes out there, but it was barely mentioned in the bigger publications. THAT BIKE literally caused me to question every review any publication is putting out. It was the same for the Jedi, and you would see how popular they were with the amateurs if you went to the races. For the past few seasons, it was the same for the Intense M16. The publications profess that their reviews are neutral, but the fact is...the big players pay those publications for a certain amount of mentions, and pictures. The marketing guys sit there with the magazine, or read it online, and count the number of mentions and pictures to make sure they are meeting their monthly requirement. I get it...the magazines rely on advertising revenue to stay afloat, but I definitely read with a greater level of skepticism. In the past, I've seen them go so far as to put a major players' bike in a review of 7 bikes, when it wasn't even in that category! They make up some lame excuse of why they put a 140mm bike in a 160mm bike review, just so they can highlight the bike's performance, even if it doesn't achieve what the bike is intended to do! "Well...having bike x in the review just reminded us all how dramatically more efficient a 140mm bike pedals, and this one managed to hold its own against the longer travel bikes by remaining only slightly less capable." It's ridiculous at times.

    Given they don’t offer a long-travel 29er, would any of you make it a reverse mullet? I guess the front would have to be 160mm to avoid altering geo too much...

  • @michaelstewart9308

    @michaelstewart9308

    4 жыл бұрын

    The travel difference isn't enough for it to be worth making a mullet out of it, it'd slacken it out too much and lift the BB. Even dropping the travel by 10mm on the front would still lift the front end by about 30mm and would change the handling too much to be worth it Edit, based on the geometry chart, the bb is already pretty darn low so the increased height there wouldn't be the end of the world, the head angle would slacken to about 63.5° which is very slack and the reach would decrease by 10-15mm which is what I'd be concerned about because the reach isn't massively long to begin with. If the seat tube is short enough it would be smart to size up if someone were to make it a mullet

  • @Nit2315

    @Nit2315

    @@michaelstewart9308 How 10mm reach difference can be a problem ? You can buy 10mm wider bar, or buy a stem with 10mm + lenght. I mean, we are not talking word cup downhill racing where your 0.35mm spacer on the stem makes all the difference.
