This is where it all began; one of the first games I ever played on my first ever computer, the Commodore Plus 4!
Take control of Jim Hawkins as he scours the island for the buried treasure. The game map is one big maze and guarded by blood-thirsty pirates (yarrrr!) who will throw their cutlasses at you if you get too close.
Most of the challenge involves getting the pirates to throw their weapon, run away until it eventually stops moving and picking it up. The only enemies that don't do this are the blue coloured pirates, which adds an extra challenge to the game.
Once you find the treasure, Long John Silver comes to get you and you have to run back to the ship whilst remembering how to get there.
Although this game was released on the C64, I feel this is the better version. The C16/Plus 4 TED chip had an improved colour palette (even though it had no hardware sprite support), so the characters look a lot better than the C64 version.
The TED chip didn't sound anywhere near as good as the C64, but the sound in this game is so basic that you don't notice it.
What's more, this longplay isn't tool-assisted (WinVice save state/history recording doesn't work yet for the plus 4 emulator).
The sound lag was present in the emulator; it's not a problem with the video.
Happy memories!

This was one of the very first games I owned: a toss-up between Icicle Works and this for most played on my lovely +4. So easy to get lost! I remember a beautifully drawn map with the game that bore no resemblance to the screen layout whatsoever!

Yeah the map was the same but just hard to follow, when long John silver chases you it was squeaky bum time!
This was the first game I ever played on the first computer I ever owned. Nostalgia-ing hard right now :)

Likewise, this was one of, if not THE first game I ever played. There were several Commodore-branded tapes in the box and Treasure Island was one of them. Hope you enjoyed the video ;)

Loved this game. Could not get my Dad off the computer as he was determined to beat the game. Fast forward 35+ years and I’m looking at building a retro remake in Unity!

Ahar, me shivering matey! Did you have a stab at it? Ideal gamejam fodder I'd have thought.
First game I ever played on my plus 4 and easily the most frequently played. Just watching this brings back all the adrenaline of being chased back through the game. My kids will never know the sense of achievement and absolute entertainment
I loved this game and used to play it obsessively on my plus 4 in the ‘80s. Love the music too. Great trip down memory lane.
This game and icicle works takes me right back to when I was embracing my first steps at the computer world, commodore plus 4 before the Commodore 64 entered my world
I spent many a happy hour playing this: even more poring over the map that came with the cassette!
I always wondered what those people with the heart in the cages were.
This and Fire Ant were the first games i played on the Commodore+4 and so the first games ever for me
Loved it when you were chased at the end when you would slow down as it couldn't handle two sprites moving across the screen at the same time! Added to the frustration

I found that really scary, like the power of the evil chasing you was slowing you down
Snap! The Plus/4 was my first computer too and Treasure Island was my first game as well. I've just loaded it from tape after all these years (still loaded first time) and enjoying an afternoon of Cutlass dodging.
My dad had a commodore 16, this game brings back memories!
Inch across the screen ... Beeeeooo, try again, beeeeeoooo, damn cutlasses... My sister: my go me: no my sister:Mummmmmmm

That wee sea shanty was reward enough for me... And the return of one's nerves and normal heart rate. Pretty sure I managed it back in the day, incredibly stressful though!!
Old days... :3 I loved this game.
I am sure whoever animated this game did the whole running with sword thing on purpose. Loved this game one of the first games I owned.
Wow I was 8 playing this. imagination was better back then I mean this was real to me lol I remember I had a map with blue and green dots depicting where the pirates were and which ones they were. I can't remember where it was from, if it came with the game or not I don't know, but the green and blue dots were done in felt tip pen and the map itself looked photocopied... just cracked a memory there! 👍
This brings back memories 😁😉
Excellent 👍
Omg i remember this, i was thing about this game the other day
Even my mum stayed up playing this
My brother had this with his plus 4, did it come packed in? Icicle works and Fire Ant are two others (Ithink). The sound is a real flashback to my childhood, watching him play it. Cheers.

@@smalon75 what about fire ant?
this really sound better than c64 version
Willow Pattern is so similar
This looks pretty much like Willow Pattern, was this an unlincensed conversion with a few changes applied to it?
Can someone post the long john silver chase at the end? :D
This looks really familiar but the game I played had a Chinese theme with spots where you had to cross a bridge or something!?!

+DappieKS80 You're thinking of Willow Pattern Adventure - was very similar and coded by the same person 😃 www.lemon64.com/games/details.php?ID=2856
