I think this was the first video game I ever played. It's certainly the first I have any memory of playing.

Me and my best friend were obsessed with this game when I was 8. Glad we never completed it as I always imagined there’d be some big reward at the end. Would’ve been disappointed to discover it just looped round

A nice game for the C16 , along with Mr. Puniverse. A good title from Mastertronic, and a good collectible in your C16 tapes library.

Had this game when I was a little kid and still remember my mum running into my room to wake me up to tell me she had passed level 3 😂

Mr. Puniverse is the official sequel to Big Mac, it uses the same code. It's one sequel which never made it to the C64. There was a C64 homebrew version of Mr. Puniverse many years later entitled "Big Mad", but it isn't as good :)

It was a very hard but addictive game. I loved the smooth sprites and colors. The sound is sadly Atari 2600 style, but i guess that was owed to the fact that they wanted to keep it C16 compatible, since that machine didn't have the 60k the Plus/4 had.

Well the Plus/4 has exactly the same sound chip as the C16, the Plus/4 just has larger memory.

@@retroscener I was referring to the possible size of the game concerning the ram available on a C16. But you are correct with the TED.

@@mikehilbert6516 - OK, just a bit of miscommunication there. Well, I guess C16's generally sold more than Plus/4's which is why there are just 15 levels in this game. The sound is really more down to the coders skills (but it's still pretty good for its limitations tbh). There's been some great FX and tunes on the unexpanded C16, but again it's the exact same TED chip. Same limitations.

@fonsisweb It doesn't seem so, as it just loops back to screen one, my last attempt I clocked it twice (now I understand Mac's madness). I would like to know though if when the score reaches 999,999, whether it freezes the score there, add a 7th digit to carry on from a million, garbles the score up with screen garbage or just loops back to zero.

Very similar to mr puniverse. I'd love to play all these games again. Is there anyway to play them on an emulator?

@Bruce777999 I found that to be so on the C64 more. But they were one of the better publishers for the C16. Many classics :)

It's just a little different for being a single screen platformer rather than an explorative multi-screen platformer. Big Mac is arguably better as it's a hi-score game so there is always something new to beat, whereas Mr. Puniverse doesn't have a score, just an end. I used to like Mr. Puniverse more until I beat it.
