    120's... That's huge! I suppose the real question is, "are they getting full travel in every direction with those 120's ? 🤔😕 The Longer shock body, is going to essentially raise up the truck by another 10mm, You could gain the travel back with the 110's by simply adding longer swivel ball links to the bottom of the shock, "which would give a the right separation away from the Panhard bar, but would unfortunately raise your truck up another 10mm and significantly increase the Rollover factor, 😕 But you would be getting full travel out of the front suspension, vs not with the current setup, That being said.. I don't think that that's the best way of going about it, Some other viewers "Will Anderson and Chad Nelson" recently mentioned going back to the original servo, and panhard bar mounting locations,as well as doing some minor panhard bar end adjustments, and I assume longer servo horn, or adding a small spacer between the drag link and the servo horn "to solve the suspension travel problems. I know that it's a solvable problem, 🤔 lifting my trail finder two to extreme heights has taught me that,😄 lol I had to add a couple of torque robbing spacers to, and between, the steering links.😁 Will and Chad mentioned moving the servo back to the stock location, but I have to wonder if it would be better in the stock location, as well as being mounted in from the bottom up? Vs being mounted in from on top?🤔 As for the panhard bar.. That's going to be a simple fix as well, it's just a matter of adjusting it out a bit further, to accommodate the extra suspension travel,😕 Which is what I had to do with the Gen 8 when I added the 110mm shocks, and both of the Ascenders when I added the Traxxas trx4 portal axles to them,😕 "The servo horn too the drag link connection" is the next problem, which can be solved with a longer screw and a torque robbing spacer,🙄 but there's gotta be a better way 🤔? And I'm sure that I'll discover that once I get the truck back on the operating table.😄👍 As for the 120mm shocks; Are they any good ? And how are the seals..Do the leak ? I've never heard of them, but that doesn't mean anything 😄 I'm going to look them up after dinner, and then get to working on the Bronco, but I've got to remove my track units and hose them down, before I get started with anything else, they got filthy on today's run.😂 Lol

    Got a question for you Kevin "about those Yeah Racing Desert Lizard shocks ? 🤔 I just looked at those online, and they look exactly like Boom Racing shocks,🤔 Exactly... 😕 Alright so I purchased a set of Boom Racing 110mm shocks back in 2016 or 2017, for my Trail Finder 2, (The idea was to replace my RC4wd 100mm shocks, for the new Boom Racing 110mm shocks) But once I got them I quickly realized that they lied about the shocks,🤔 "The shocks were indeed 110mm long from end to end, but they didn't have any more suspension travel than the RC4wd 100mm shocks that I already had on the truck,😕 Both shocks had the same length shock body, and the same about of up & down piston movement, the only difference between the two was the overall length, Boom Racing put a longer eyelit on the end of the shock and basically turned a 100mm shock into a 110mm by changing out the shock ends.🤔☹️ And after looking at those Yeah Racing 120mm shocks, I can't help but to have the same question in my mind, "which is how much travel do they actually have" 🤔 ? I'm willing to bet "that if you put a set of the Yeah Racing 120mm shocks next to a set of the Traxxas 110mm shocks, that the only difference would be the overall length, and that they would most likely have the exact same amount of actual shock travel.🤔😕 Because like I said in the beginning... They look exactly like the Boom Racing shocks, Exactly like them! 😕 And once again just to recap, "their getting the extra length by adding a longer shock end.🤔😕☹️ Now since I don't personally own a set of yeah racing 120mm shocks, I'm not saying that yeah racing is doing the same thing, but it kinda looks like that from the picture.😕 If you own a set of them do me a favor and check out the shock travel distance between those 120's against the Traxxas 110's ? I'd be curious to see wether or not they actually have more travel than the Traxxas shocks, or wether they got the extra length by adding a longer shock end eyelit.🤔❓😕

    Another thing about those Desert Lizard shocks, "is that they have the shock spring on the inside of the shock body vs the outside, And the shock travel gets limited by that "depending on how stiff of a spring you use in it" 🤔 Which is the same way with those Boom Racing, "They came with a few different rate shock springs, but the softest springs allowed more shock travel vs the stiff springs, Reason being; The stiffer springs where physically longer than the soft springs, and took up more room inside the shock body vs the soft springs, which means that the piston can't travel as far on the inside of the cylinder, because the longer springs are taking up that extra gap. 😕 Yup... I don't like those internally sprung shocks 🤔

    Looking at the design, what Traxxas did is use the a similar design of a full size truck. It is desired to have the pan hard bar and drag link as parallel. When you add a lift kit especially on a cool sprung rig it is normal to use a drop bracket on the frame side of the pan hard bar.

  • @R.C.A.D.

    @R.C.A.D.

    10 ай бұрын

    Oh I get that, but what I don't like is how the suspension is limited, it shouldn't be like that, there's absolutely no reason why they couldn't get full travel out of that thing in each direction,🤔 If I can get it to work on the Gen 8 "why can't Traxxas get the job done on the trx4 😕 ? They could have also eliminated the panhard bar all together, and went with a four link setup on the front. 😕 Don't get me wrong, I love the lifted Bronco, but with a company like Traxxas, you would except a little better quality "with something such as this,😕 wouldn't you agree Juan ? It's definitely no competition crawler with this setup 🙄 Yup... I stand on what I was saying, this thing just isn't right, if Traxxas did a bit more homework, they should have been able to get this all working correctly. 😕 Much appreciated for your input brother 😊👍 and many thanks as always for checking out the video. 😁🤜🤛

    I just filmed a video with it yesterday with 2.2 mud slingers vs 2.2 Swampers, and I'm about to go film another video right now with the deep lug paddle tracks vs the 2.2 Swampers, "As for using the stock servo mount" That's probably a good idea, and would probably work,🤔 I assume that you mounted the servo in from the underside "instead of on top, with that stock mount, would I be correct in that assumption ? 😕 "as for the panhard bar ends, that's no problem, I should be able to figure that out without much difficulty,🤔 But I just want to make sure "that you're sure of what you're saying, before I tare everything back apart,😕 Are you getting full travel in all three directions without any binding or obstructions ? Meaning full articulation left & right,as well as full compression with both shocks at the same time ? 😕 Otherwise much appreciated for your great suggestion Chad, and for taking the time to check out the video.😊👍

    Actually mount servo on top just like stock, and with just small adjustments with link ends I got full compression with 110 mm “Amazon shocks” there could be small differences with Traxxas 110’s but should still work. Approximately 76.5 eyelet to eyelet fully compressed on Amazon shocks. Totally ready to see videos. 👍🏻 thanks and I hope you get it figured out.

    @chadnelson4332 Got it figured out Chad, "even did a video on the process 😄 I literally just finished working on the truck "as well as the video, Everything works pretty good, I readjusted the Panhard bar to the ideal length "or the most ideal length available with the parts at hand" as well as doing some custom bending on the steering link eyelits "to get them at a better overall angle for mating up to the servo horn" and then adjusted them out until everything jived correctly.😁 We've got smooth full articulation on both sides, as well as smooth movement while fully compressing both shocks at the same time "and that was the tuff part 😕 which all had to do with getting the proper Panhard bar length.😄 Lol All in all the whole project only took a few hours to do, maybe 4-6 hours of total job and measurement figuring out time.😊 Video will be coming soon, You and Will Anderson are Credited "for the great suggestion" at the beginning of the video. 😊 Much appreciated my friend. 👉🏆

    @chadnelson4332 Amazon Shocks; If there anything like the Yeah Racing Desert Lizard 110 or 120mm shock's, Then chances are that your Traxxas 110mm shocks have more actual piston movement or shock travel, than the Yeah Racing 120mm shocks.😕 Let me explain my thoughts on this... I purchased a set of Boom Racing 110mm shocks for my Trail Finder 2 back in like 2016, and the idea was to replace my Rc4wd 100mm shocks for the Boom Racing 110's,😕 Now I didn't compare the two side by side at first, I just hurried up and installed them on my truck,🤔 and then once I did a articulation bench test, I quickly realized that I didn't gain any extra travel "in fact, I actually lost some overall travel 😕 and then I took one off and compared it to my old RC4wd 100mm shocks,🤔 And this is kinda funny, but the RC4wd 100mm shocks had a longer shock body than the Boom Racing 110mm shocks, as well as having a significant amount of extra travel.😕 No Bull crap! Both shocks are internally sprung, "meaning that the shock springs are on the inside of the shock body vs the outside, That being said, the stiffer the shock springs that you run on the inside, the less overall shock travel you have, meaning that you'll get the most travel using the softest springs,😕 "And I was using the softest spring available in both sets of shocks. Anyways... The Boom Racing Shocks look identical to the Yeah Racing Desert Lizard shocks 🤔😕 Identical!!! 😕 Which means ten chances to one "that the Desert Lizard 120mm shocks don't have any more actual shock travel than the Traxxas 110mm shocks.😕 Boom racing was getting their extra shock length by adding longer plastic eyelits or "shock ends" to the bottom of the shock.🤔😕 I also share everything that I just talked about in the new video as well.😁👍 Yup... I don't personally own a pair of the Yeah Racing shocks, but once again they look identical to the Boom Racing shocks, "and those come up short on their measurements, A boom racing 110mm is closer to a 99mm then a actual 110mm shock that is maximizing it's full travel potential.🤔 😕 Just wanted to share that with you as a heads up. 😁👍

    I would like to ask about the modifications you had to do on your k10 ascender to install the traxxas portal axles

  • @R.C.A.D.

    @R.C.A.D.

    10 ай бұрын

    😄 ha! Ascender person.... You'd definitely be welcome over here Mark.😁 As for the K10; I have a few videos featuring this truck that started at the beginning of the year, I do talk about it a little bit on each video "in the beginning of its portal having life" but I haven't done a straight up walkthrough on it yet,🤔 And that's because it's not quite finished,😕 I need to get a good sensored brushless motor, and esc for it, in order for it to be complete.😕 Adding the portals required doing some serious gearing adjustments,🤔 The ascenders have a extremely tall or high geared Ring & Pinions, and the Traxxas axles are just the opposite in comparison,😕 Vaterra added an extremely low Spur Gear and Pinion gear, to compensate for the axle gearing, Which means the spur gear and pinion, need some serious readjusting, in order to accommodate the Traxxas portals lower gearing,🤔 "Basically you have to take the transmission gearing in the other direction" going from extremely low to extremely high.😊 I'm currently running a Traxxas VXL 3s brushless combo in both the K10 & K5 Ascenders, which actually works pretty darn good with the Traxxas all terrain Traxx, but not so good with tires,☹️ "once again it needs a sensored brushless motor in order to be right" the traxx offered enough drag that it doesn't matter about being sensorless, but tires are a totally different story. 😄 ha lol Not to mention Reversing the motor, so that the axles are spinning in the right direction.😁 As for the links leading to the axles... It's really not all that difficult,😕 "the Traxxas portals where almost a direct swap" other than some minor end link adjustments, But everything else on the axles is almost a direct swap.😁👍 Drive shafts; Your gonna need new ones in order to adapt to the Traxxas axles, I went with some Hot Racing Axial scx10 drive shafts, that were meant for my RC4wd Trail Finder Two, "reason being, because I just happened to have them sitting here, and they were almost the perfect size,😄 The rear shaft was perfect, but the front shaft required a little bit of trimming to get it down to the right length, or at least that's what I used on my K10, I used MIP drive shafts on my brother's K5 blazer, which were originally meant for the Ascender Blazer, "everything was correct except for the ends leading to the axle pinions,🤔 those required me using some other MiP drive shaft ends that I had laying around, in order to be correct on the Traxxas portals.😊 Shocks; The shocks need to be adjusted slightly where they attach to the shock towers, "it's nothing major, simply a matter of spacing them off the shock tower a little bit, and using longer screws to attach them, otherwise their almost a direct swap as well.😊 The whole mod was pretty easy really, it's almost like the Traxxas axles were meant for it.😄 lol As for the Traxxas all terrain traxx; Those things are awesome on the ascenders, I actually like driving my track equipped ascender in the winter, more than my trx4 bronco,😕 Same thing with my brother's K5 Blazer, he likes using the tracks on his ascender more than his trx4 bronco as well, "Probably because the ascender is so much lighter" it just performs better in the snow.😁 Hmmm 🤔? Let me think... Is that everything....🤔 ? Tires and body; After swapping the axles you won't have much trouble clearing a small set of 2.2's, such as the RC4wd Mud Slingers, I would suggest lowering the body afterwards, "but as you know, there's not much you can do about that with the K10, "other then to get a different body,😕 but as long as you swap out to 2.2's, you wouldn't have to worry about lowering the body.😊 And I think that covers about everything. As for a walkthrough video; I'll be getting one of those uploaded once I get a good Brushless Combo for the truck.😊 What's the hold up you ask ? 😕 Too many projects, and not enough money it invest into all of them. But the K10 is currently my highest priority, "winter is coming, and I'm gonna want that baby good to go by the time the snow flys.😁 So a walkthrough video is on its way, but it probably won't be for another month or so.😕 Thanks for your great question Mark, and many more for checking out the video.😊👍

    @MarkSmith-zx2qr Nice 😄👍 I grew up on Tamiya, and love RC Construction Equipment 😁 And your off to a good start with the K10 too, One thing that you're going to need is a Smaller Spur Gear,😕 I'm running Team Losi Kevlar Spur Gears in ours, I believe the stock spur gear is either a 86 or 88t gear,🤔 and I want to say that I'm currently running a 72t Spur Gear, "which is probably the smallest one that you can fit on there between the slipper clutch pressure plates,😕 it's pretty darn small. I can't remember off the top of my head what pinion size I'm running,🤔 but I'm thinking that it's a 36t,😕 "Which is pretty darn extreme, in the high side of gearing perspectives,😄 But that's kinda what's needed, in order to compensate for the lower Gearing that's in the portal axles.🤔😕 Now that was the gearing that I was running with the tracks,🙄 "well sorta! I was playing around with the gearing, the Sour gear was solid being a 72t, but I was bouncing around with different pinion gear's between 32t and 42t,🤔 And I seem to remember that the 36t was the magic number with the Track units,😕 but I was and still am, running that Vxl 3s system in it, and I believe that has a 3600kv motor, which is kinda ridiculous for a crawler, but honestly it works quite well with that gearing setup and the trx4 track units.😁👍 Feel free to Cruise through my video library to see it in action, I've got several great snow videos featuring both of those Ascenders.😁 I also discuss the gearing in several of those videos,as well as showing the part numbers for the different size spur gears, that I was originally messing with.😊 As for your install; Do you feel confident as a "RC individual" to accomplish the build with the information that I provided, "along with watching some of my previous videos on the subject in order to get yourself visually prepared for what it looks like as a completed package ?😕 Or do I need to hurry up with my Walkthrough video plans, in order for you to successfully complete the build ? 😕 Please don't be offended by that question, I'm just trying to get a feel for your RC building and fabrication experience, so that I know wether or not I need to get that Walkthrough video done.😄👍 Otherwise... I wish you all the best my friend.😊
