I can definitely relate to this. I feel like I need the right amount of stimulation, I need my alone time, but then I need to go out and mingle, so it is a balance.

I never thought you were an introvert. I am too. I have watched you for a few years now. Interesting. I have a little social anxiety on top of being an introvert which is the bad part. I want and love to be out, get dressed up but then I feel awkward. Blah! Anyhow, I have enjoyed watching you over the years and glad you found a great guy to do your thing with!

Hi Susan! Yeah I think people wouldn't necessarily know from watching my videos, since I talk a lot in them, but they're just a small portion of my life. It's nice to be open about it though and connect with others! Ugh I know how you feel sometimes. I feel awkward all the time! 🙈

SUSAN, you might want to check into Toastmasters. It will help you with being an introvert. Not sure what you do for a living, but volunteer with your company to do 'community service' if they do anything like that. Get involved with a singles group your age at a local church, go out with a group lunch, dinner, bowling, volleyball, etc. If you have had any problems with drugs/alcohol, go the AA route and meet others struggling as well. I wish you nothing but the best. God Bless.

Happy to hear it! I know what you mean about hostels. Have you tried staying in a private room in a hostel? That can be a good way to ease into them. Sometimes I still feel really awkward though, but I guess it's all about just not caring about what anyone else thinks 😊

Hi Mari, thanks for another awesome video. Okay, I now know, I must be an introvert. I love some alone time on occasions. Keeping in mind, I also like talking to other people. I have certain hobbies that give me some alone time when needed. I think being an only child may be part of the reason. I have never been really into parties, but I do like having company. I like the sound of the rain there. I haven't heard any New Zealand rain since 1979. LOL. I have headphones on at the moment watching your video. My dad was also an only child and we both understood each other having alone time. Anyway, take care. Robert.

Oh and a little tip for hostels... I've never seen bed curtains but a piece of fabric like a scarf or a sarong does the trick if there are bunk beds and you're on the low bed. Or to make it more subtle I used to hang up my towel on the side bar of the bed above mine and pretend it was drying, but really it was just making me a more private space. I really don't know if my explanation was clear and if anyone got it 😅

  • @mari.johnson

I can totally relate to this video and feel that it understands me and describes what I am like as an introvert who enjoys travelling alone. It’s actually refreshing to find videos like these online. I have questioned myself many times as to why I'm different and why I don't enjoy social company as much as others when travelling etc. I've always found that I just enjoy travelling alone. My family understands me, but I've had to speak to my friends numerous times and try to explain to them that that it's nothing against them or their company, but I just enjoy my own company and enjoy doing my own stuff. It's how I am. I absolutely love travelling alone and enjoy the thrill and excitement of exploring new places. I've met many awesome people on my travels. But when am fortunate enough to travel, my primary goal is not to meet new people or socialise with others, but to enjoy my time and enjoy the place. As far as I’m concerned, it’s ‘me’ time. And even if that means, just chilling in a hotel room for the day or have an early evening, then that’s what I’ll do. And I would never have it any other way. Videos like these are really appreciated and this makes me feel better about being an introvert. Thank you very much Mari.

Nice one good explanation Mari, I can always find myself in it, as you tell it. certainly indeed when it is busy, around you, it withdraws so much energy. and especially when I am with a few people, you do not know what is happening around you. and apparently mis a lot. and especially if you are Hangry, but that does not have that much to do with this. Thanks for the explanation, I also think that many people do not know this and it is good that you are making a video about it. Loved it Mari

Haha! It always bugs me when people ask me what's wrong just because I'm off doing my own thing or being quiet. Ha, nothing's wrong. I'm probably having a great time! Crowds can be super fun too, because as an introvert you just blend right into the crowd and do your own thing and you can pick and choose who you want to interact with. I think crowds would be worse for an extrovert because they aren't going to get the same kind of attention they would in a smaller group. As an introvert I gain so much perspective on my environment. The sights, sounds, smells, activities and vibe of a location. I think it's an advantage because people will always have alone time, but not always have group time or together time. It must be very lonely for people who need that interaction when they can't get it. I'm fine with it and even better without it! Getting out of your comfort zone is SO important, introvert or extrovert. And, you were right, I did like this video! Cheers!

@@mari.johnsonYou're spot on. When I travel mainly it's about getting my private space and well to recharge. I am a typical INFJ. :) The best experience I got in Vietnam 2 years ago was with my humble & kind Vietnamese friends. Less than a week from today, we're returning to Vietnam. We because this time my fiancé is tagging along. If it weren't for them, we'd not be traveling back there. Getting the local experience, going off the beaten path is to me a priority. Love your videos Mari. Happy Holidays!

I see you Mari. Love this video! Can't wait to meet you one day! Xx I'm more towards full introvert but I do like some people sometimes but I know when I like my own time. It's when I get really quiet or walk to a quiet area. I like to have headphones (I feel naked without them haha) though will try not to have them in all the time in Italy as I don't want to seem rude but will definitely have them around my neck or nearby *I have them on my head and don't always listen to music 😉* will try make an effort to see and do more but will take some down time. I usually listen to Italian radio so I get to listen and try understand or listen to podcast on learning italian whilst be on my own = 2 for 1! 😆

@@mari.johnson It's all good, but it can get overwhelming. It would probably be better if I was more scheduled with them, so I could make sure to get some down time for myself earlier in the evening. I start way too late because they are up way too late and then the next days off and the cycle goes on and on. We can only try to improve and do our best. My husband is pretty good about recognizing when I'm at my limit and need to go hide for a bit though.

That's a very interesting video Mary! I used to think I was 100% introvert but now I understand that it was stupid and we're all somewhere on that scale as you say. I sometimes like the energy of crowds, and I love to meet people and interact! But I do get really tired after a full day with people. I was at an event recently which was being with hundreds of people for a full week, and sharing an apartment with others so no alone time really. I found my alone time at lunch, I just went by myself to a supermarket so I had like 15 minutes to walk by myself, and it was just life saving haha. People thought I was weird but well, that's their problem! I don't know if it's an introvert thing or just me, but I get really affected by noise. Even if I'm with a small group of people it can be tiring if they speak really loud. It's like noise can hurt me sometimes 😅 Is Nick an introvert too? If not, is it hard to manage that difference?

  • @mari.johnson

No, you weren't stupid! There's really no right or wrong when it comes to this sort of thing. Yes, lunch breaks can be a perfect escape! When I worked at an office I was always going on walks by myself at lunch 😊 And I don't usually like loud noises either! They really affect me sometimes.
