Here above the Arctic Circle, It's so fascinating to see the transition from dark to light. It’s so nice to have the sun back again enjoy the last moments when its possible to see the Northern lights. Snow comes and goes, birds begin to return, and nature slowly comes alive again.
In this video, I show you a little bit of our life in the North, and I show you the renovation of our old Scandinavian Farmhouse. We started with the floor and the kitchen!

As a musician, songwriter, and filmmaker, Carmijn has held a long-cherished dream of living in the heart of nature. “For me nature is magical. It's healing and creates a feeling of total freedom. A feeling of peace. When I’m surrounded by big mountains and long rivers, I feel free. The sunlight on my skin, swimming in the cold water. When I close my eyes, words and melodies arise. “
In the spring of 2022, she moved with her partner and son from her native Netherlands to the North of Norway. Between tall mountains, long rivers, and endless forests, she quickly learned living in nature is both hard work and awe-inspiring.
For Carmijn, Red Leaf Hill is as much about sharing as it is expressing, through her own means and by seeking out collaborators who travel a similar wavelength. On her KZread channel, she’s garnered a steady following in her journeys across the Norwegian wilderness. To be an open book, where struggle, joy, fear, and courage are laid bare for all to see. How wonderful to be witnessing the Northern Lights so regularly. The house is coming along nicely, the kitchen is starting to take shape. I think there’s every possibility of moving in during the summer. Your part of the world looks very beautiful, it’s amazing just how snow can clothe the countryside and create such beautiful shapes. I look forward to see just what the spring melt reveals to us.❤

Reminds me of the kitchen I put together in a house in PA some years ago - watching you maneuvering the cabinets into place made me smile & brought back all those memories. I did mine all by myself, propping the wall cupboards up on books & other things until they were where I wanted them & then screwing into place - pretty funny when I think about it, but I have always been a can-do person ! Enjoy your new kitchen, it will be worth every aching back & accidentally hammered finger ! A lovely place to live !
