My Simple Scandinavian Life

We are still far away from spring. It seems like winter is tightening its grip while elsewhere in the world spring is already starting.
I share my simple daily chores and thoughts living here in the North. Thank you for being here, and supporting my work 💙

Hello, you all 💙 I''ve been reading your comments all morning, and I'm dazzled of all of your kindness not only towards me but also towards of each others ❤ I'm thankful that you take the time to write here, and share your love out to the world. Let's continue that, it is what this world needs ❤ And as a side note, there're many comments on why I use the word "Scandinavian" though Finland is not a part of Scandinavia. Finland is not geographically a part of Scandinavia but I have personally always thought that our culture here in the North is very similar to our neighbour countries. For many centuries people have moved across Finland, Sweden and Norway, especially here in the North, and shared similar culture. That is why I use this word but I do understand it is confusing. Thank you for all of you who share your corner of the world and your life stories here. I'm sending you all the warmth and love I can to your different situations in life ❤❤

There is nothing better than an "uneventful" but meaningful life. Many people find every-day-life more interesting than busy vacations, talking a mile-a-minute videos and watching a "set stage". In your life, there is beauty like no other...who tires of a beautiful flower in their garden year after year? Last but not least, "snow washing", how INTERESTING! Thank you!

I have been thinking that all evening. I'm old now. I'm very tired most of the day. I still work a little bit but I end up in a lot of physical pain even working a few hours a day. I often long for the days of less pain, the days filled with family and friends. My life is quiet now. I am grateful for people like Sanna who share the beauty of their lives through videos . That helps make my life more interesting and beautiful too. ❤

Lucky you! I want to retire so bad but because of unfortunate happenings I can't. I've paid for my house for 30 yrs and still owe almost as much as I paid for it. After a split in 2001 with my x bf, I had to buy him out and start over. Then my mom got dementia 15 years into the 2nd time I had to modify the loan as I took care of her and she went under hospice in my house so I couldn't work and had to collect social security at 63. Well...didn't know they were going to knock a little over $200. Off the payment and add 30 more years to my loan Ugh. I'm 70. If it wasn't for my animals, which is my life( horses mainly) I guess I could live in a van

I love to have a simple life. Everyone complains about how fast time is going by. It's because they spend their days on phones, computers, social media etc while life is moving by... we used to enjoy people, places and things, but now its phones, computers and the never ending social media. No one likes it but we feel we must do it or we are not "normal". I'll take your way of life any day!

When I was completing my teaching degree I was blessed to spend 6 months living in Vaxjo, Sweden, so I am drawn to the simplicity, the familiarity and the heart of your videos. They bring back wonderful memories, including a brief trip to Finland with such generous people. I admit that I am amazed at your knitting skills! It was such a flawless, beautiful, and enchanting excursion in so many different ways, so unlike what we’re accustomed to, that in some ways the experience almost deserves to dissipate. Yes, when we were growing up in the Midwest, scientists and teachers warned us that we were entering another Ice Age, because there was so much snow. It was glorious, all our snow forts, the snowmobiles, the ice-fishing, the hot cocoa with marshmallows afterwards, the quiet, the peace, the isolation. The snow tunnel to the barn, sometimes, to get firewood . . .

It makes sense. My stepfather was Finnish. I remember him talking to his mother in Finnish. It was always interesting to hear their conversations even though I never knew what they were saying. 😆And the stories they told when they were raising chickens on the farm are still etched in my memory. We still use the sauna that he and his dad built many years ago.

You make the loveliest videos! I found you because Jessica Mills on "Homemade Wanderlust" on KZread mentioned you a year or so back as one of her favorite channels. You know that big black cupboard you have in the corner with all your sweaters on top? Why don't you take a hint from wonderful Swedish art and paint it blue and then decorate it with beautiful colorful designs from Swedish folk tradition? Im sure you will have to wait till summer to get to town for paint, but you could turn that cupboard into a beautiful creature and have a lot of fun doing it! After all, God made rainy days for making bread and cookies, knitting, and painting things!

Snow washing! I’ve never heard of it and I’m old. But I live in Canada so look forward to trying it out next year. Not this year. This has been the winter that wasn’t. Spring arrived a couple of weeks ago. My crocuses and dwarf irises are out. It’s bizarre. In the past we’ve had ice storms in mid-April and blizzards at the end of April. Also your northern lights! They fill me with awe. A couple of times I’ve sat on a dock in Northern Ontario until 2 a.m. waiting for them because the news predicted they would be out and … nothing. So it’s wonderful to see them in your video. Thank you.

Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful life you choose. It speaks to my heart. Circumstances beyond my control prevent me from having a similar life now (although I used to have such and absolutely treasure those memories!), so thank you for letting me enjoy the beautiful north, the deep peace of self-sufficiency, and the joy of the little and simple mundane pleasures of life. Your videos are a gift. ❄️💙❄️

Sanna, this is beautiful and what talent you have. I am mostly of Norwegian dissent. Would love to visit Finland, Norway or Sweden someday. However, me, and my whole extended family have been born and lived in Texas for a couple hundred years. My husband and I lived in Germany and Asia and I remember the weather being so extreme at times. It is mostly warm and dry where I live now but supposed to be freezing by tomorrow. I love seeing the snow where you are, so pretty.

Many thanks for your absolutely wholesome and very beautiful video. A simple, wholesome life is a real life worth living. I live in a medium size village in the deep South of Spain's Andalucia. I am not from this place. It is a bit of a Desert really... No issues. I make the best of it until I find where I really want to live. last Summer the heat index went up to 52 deg C. I visited Helsinki for a month. It was awesome, clean, cool, and very green. Folks were happy and nice. I did not have the opportunity to visit Lapland or head out North. Maybe some other time. Many folks from Finland visit Spain. Specially Malaga. I have met a number a wonderful folks from Finland in Malaga. They like to spend a portion of their heavy Winter there. Again, thank you for your beautiful video. I really enjoyed it. My life is also very simple, and serene. God blesses you very richly indeed.

Hello Sanna. There is a song by JJ Heller titled Big Love,Small Moments. In her song, she sings about not rushing a moment. That there is a symphony in everything around us if we take the time to listen. A big picture in a small frame.Big magic in the mundane. And big love happens in a small moments. She couldn't have been more true. She could have been singing about you. You have a wonderful beautiful life in all its simplicity. It made me smile.

I loved seeing the Northern Lights, which I have never seen in person. And I noticed the Big Dipper. I can see that every clear night from my home on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. I miss the snow. At 74yrs old, I grew up with wild, snowy winters. But, alas, with climate change, we haven't had a snowstorm of more than 4" in the last 3 years. It's very sad. I'm so happy to see a place on the earth that still enjoys a snowfilled winter. Your photography skills nicely match your philosophical thoughts. Thx.

That snow is beautiful to behold, but I know this Texas girl could not make it in the cold weather 🥶😩 I love watching a day in the life of people from around the world and yours has to be one of my faves. Thanks so much for sharing. Also your sweaters and socks look so comfy and pretty, that’s amazing that you make them!🤩

I live on an island in the northeast of the US, though it is slower than most US cities, I wish for even more quiet at times, but at least the winter months there are less distractions from people. Your sweaters are gorgeous, that is my weakness, nothing else but sweaters matter in my wardrobe.
