My Traditional Scandinavian Home - An Old Farm House in the North

Hello, and welcome to our home ❤️
I promised a home tour of our house that we moved into four months ago, so here it is! I walk through the entire house, tell about its history, how people used to live here a hundred years ago and what are my favorite things here.
I did forget to show you the most important thing in a Scandinavian home, our outdoor sauna and of course our music studio that we just finished in an old barn so maybe I'll have to make another tour video soon 🙈
All the best to you all ❤️
***
I'm a nature lover and creative soul living far North of Finland. I live in a remote village, in an old farmhouse, travel in the North, and seek inspiration in the wild nature around me.
I create photographs, videos, and music, inspired by this Nordic nature and its magic.
Welcome to my world 💛

My husband and I live in a farmhouse which is 135 years old and you are correct that old houses have a special atmosphere. I feel that they have a heart and soul which newer homes don't have. We've also found interesting old tools and objects around our farm which had been abandoned and forgotten. I like to think about how they were used in the past and the stories behind them. Thank you for sharing your home with me. It is lovely and warm and welcoming, as are you.

You speak English beautifully... Thank you so much for that! You knitted those socks? OMG! The designs and details...You are very talented. Your house is "STURDY BUILT" IT will last a very, very long time...Homes are not built in this way anymore. Your home is made out of real strong materials. It is Christmas Season now, and I am hoping that if you celebrate it, you will post us a video of your traditional decorations...It has been a pleasure to see how others live in foreign lands... Thank you for your hard work, effort, and your time! Greetings from middle Georgia, USA!!!

Dear Sanna, met you in your blog about washing sweaters in the snow, then went with you on a ski into the quiet forest, and then the arrival of the seeds. Now my third visit with you the tour of your new - 4 mo in the home. Love your home, as an old soul you are connected with all the life lived in your home Beginning in the 1800’s . Many floor plans in our country combine an open kitchen / family room concept with a fire place. Something’s never change. Also antiques are used for decorations. 👀 looking forward to your updated pictures that you will hang on the wall. ❤

I had not realized that you DID find your dream house. It is very very special and I love it! The house has its own personality. It is both humble yet majestic in its own way. The stone fireplaces add such a unique aspect to the home. They seem to be coaxing a person to just revel in the moment, accept their simplicity and functionality. They were built for a purpose which they are fulfilling even up until this day. My country worships youth, but there is a great depth of wisdom in the elderly and deep meaning to be absorbed

Lovely home Sanna :) My Grandparents had a long entry room followed by a secondary entry room in the home they built in the US. Many of our ancestors are from Sweden and Finland and came here several generations back. I have always found it amazing that even after all this time away from the far north so many of the traditions, style choices and cultural habits live on. My grandmother had handmade rag rugs like yours all over her home. There was a massive oval one under the dining table. Of all the things we still practice I especially love Fika, knitting, any activity involving snow and immersing myself in nature whenever I have the opportunity. Thank you for the tour and explanations I enjoyed it a lot. 💖In English the main room of our homes in the US is often called "living room" or "great room" which is more common if the dining area and tv fireplace area are combined together.

I enjoyed the tour of your home, Sanna. My husband and I live in a newly built home (by necessity), but my soul resonates with the old. We live in the beautiful mountains located in the eastern part of America. We also have a wood stove to keep us warm and toasty in the winter. I love that nod to the past. I would call your big room which you had no English word for the “great room.” It’s a newer term in America for a multi-functional, usually larger room often toward the middle of the home where family and friends gather to eat and spend time together. Again, thanks for the tour. 😊

Such a refreshing and interesting tour of your Finish home with its history and old charm. I love fireplaces, and flowers on the window sills that radiate a warm and homey feel. Having a cat, dog, or, rabbit, etc. to share my life with while watching nature outside from a cozy room adds serenity to life. Thank you for your pleasant tour. - In appreciation by a Viking of 3 to 5+ generations ago - a combination of 4 Scandinavian countries. My visiting Scandinavia on a tour in 1990 was a dream come true. Scandinavia reminds me somewhat of my origins - New England (Massachusetts). I miss the quietness of the winter landscape then the welcoming of springtime. Greetings from Southern California. (Hoping to move back to New England)

Kedves rokon! Dear relative! I'm Hungarian. I just discovered you. It's a wonderful place where you live. The winter forest, spring, summer and autumn are wonderful... although these last three are extremely short for you. Very nice and well edited shots. I watched a lot of movies. I really liked.

Your home is lovely. And you are too! I do wish you would have shown pictures around the rooms for a better feel of the space. I so wanted to see the other side of the big room with the beautiful wood stained walls. Maybe some other time? Loved the old pictures above the doors!! The enclosed porch entry hall is wonderful..........wishing I had one just like yours. I enjoyed the visit! Thank you!!

Thank you for sharing your home. My husband passed this year. I moved into my son’s home and sure left so much behind. But finding your new OLD home, with simple colors fresh flowers refreshing. I to knit but have only made one sweater for my self. My son when he was 3.
