    When I moved in 3 years ago I had lawn #3. The bare spots were so bad they'd stir up enough dust to choke the mower. I'd have to stop, bang out the air filter and carry on. I was afraid to totally nuke it. I started with seeding the bare spots. Then I messed with weed killers. 3 years in and it's getting there. Unfortunately my immediate next door neighbor does nothing but mow down the weeds in her lawn #3 so I will always be dealing with weed pressure. As for phosphorus, some state like NJ where I live have fertilizer laws. I'm not even allowed to put down phosphorus unless I have seed on the ground or a soil test that shows I need it. They're trying to prevent run off which messes up the local waterways.

  • @PoloFieldsLawnService

    @PoloFieldsLawnService

    9 ай бұрын

    They also have those laws in Maryland as well. As long as your seeding and your soil rest show a deficiency, you should be fine. It seems like all that you need to do is a good overseeding. As far as the weed pressure, this is a constant issue with some folks. All that I do with my clients is stay up on my pre - and post emergents. It works out for them as far as keeping a butt load of weeds out of their lawns. They may have a few weeds, but only enough for me to spot spray and not do a blanket spray

  • @PoloFieldsLawnService

    Hello Timeless, that fungicide will be fine. I would go down with 2 modes of action, though, so adding Propiconizole with it will help. Just make sure that since you have the disease that you go down with the high rate. So 0.8oz per 1,000 sqft of that Hertitage SC and apply the short intervals which is every 14 days.

    Thanks, Polo, for the information. I just came inside from spraying sledgehammer on the nut sedge that's in my front lawn. My lawn (front) does not look as bad as number 2 but there are other weeds in the lawn close to the one you pulled up. So, for whatever reason I had my lawn dethatched 2 years ago and it was piles of dead grass taken out. I overseeded with a decent grass seed and watered. I noticed when the temperatures started dropping the Kentucky Blue Grass looked pretty good. I have a mix of tall fescue also. So, can you recommend a product to kill the weeds, please? And I will go back through your videos to look at products that hopefully will take care of the weeds. Next, should I get my lawn guy to dethatch the lawn again in a couple of weeks, throw seed down, and fertilize? All suggestions will greatly be appreciated. I feel as though I've been wasting my money. No, I did not DO GET A soil test which I feel was a big mistake but will get one this spring. I appreciate your kindness!

    Hello Yvonne, First, I have a video that talks about summer weeds, and I show you what weed control that you can use (store bought or professional). Check that video out whenever you get a chance. It's called, "How to get rid of Summer Weeds " As far asdethatching, is your lawn thick, and you wanna thin it out? Do you see a lot of dead grass clippings on your soil? I personally wouldn't dethatch it. It would have to be a reason why I'm doing so. Now my lawn was super think, and I dethatched it myself just to thin it out a little bit. But of course, that's what Kentucky Bluegrass does. By the way, Kentucky Bluegrass likes cooler temperatures. Hope this helps 🙏🏾

    @yvonnegibson5304 Which is natural being that area close to your soil is moist longer than the tips of your grass, and if you don't have melting out fungus, you might have some older grass that is dying off. Take a blower and blow your lawn to open it up a little so that it can breathe. If you're cutting it high, start bringing your height of cut down a little bit. For example, I NORMALLY will cut my test plot as high as 4.25 inches in the heat of the summer. I've been bringing my height of cut down since we've dropped out of the upper 90'and into the 70s and 80s. I'm now at 3.25 inches. I'll leave it at that height for the fall and winter. The lawn can breathe now

    Hey great video and I subscribed. So I'm in the northeast and my lawn is between number one and two. I'm gonna cut lower today and dethatch so that I can overseed this week. My question is normally I would put seed and fertilizer down at the same time, but lately I've seen videos suggesting that I should wait awhile on the fertilizer until the seeds germinate to prevent over growth with the existing grass. What do you suggest? Thanks in advance

    Put your seed and fertilizer down at the same time. Also, if you have it, put you down some Propiconizole (1 oz per 1,000 sqft) as well. • @PoloFieldsLawnService

    @PoloFieldsLawnService

    9 ай бұрын

    Hello Damion, I haven't used Johnathan Green before. You can always check the trials on those grass cultivars in that bag. I would start there first to see how the seed fairs up against other seeds. Just Google the names of the seed in the bag, and you'll get your information. Also, check to see if it has any weed seeds or crop seeds. If it does, just know that you're gonna have some weed seeds and regular seed in that bag.
