Thanks so much! I actually think it might be a fairly new feature. I stepped away from LR for a while and I’m just getting back into it so I’m not sure when that became a thing

I've been doing intersect/add/subtract masking since the feature first came out, but I hadn't touched Color Range in those areas yet. LOVE seeing how that can open up even more creative options! Thanks, great video!

Not sure if all this effort leads to better results than using subject pop filter and/or sky replace filter in Lightroom?

  • @dunnadidit

All just more tools to use in specific situations! Making your subject pop or effecting the sky are just a couple of potential uses for the masking tools I showed but there are a million situations you might pull them out for!

@@dunnadidit Sure, also, when you apply a subject pop, all it does is create a subject mask using AI and then boosts exposure, so you can go in with these ready masks and use some of the same methods without needing to jump into photoshop :)

@DigiDriftZone is this “subject pop filter” something new in lightroom? I’m looking for it but not finding it anywhere? Sounds like it’s doing similar stuff to what I was doing in the video anyway but it sounds interesting.

@@dunnadidit I'm not sure how new it is, if you open Lightroom (the new one, not classic) and click "Filters" on the top right, then "Premium", then select one of the categories that has "Adaptive" in the name, they all create multiple masks, for a person, they create masks for lips, hair, teeth, skin, etc and they are super accurate, they are also super accurate at picking out what the subject is, so once they created all of the individual masks you can just go in and tweak each layer separately to your liking, it's fantastic. So you achieve a similar result to what you demonstrated at lower effort. Does require a subscription though, I'm paying to have some cloud storage and get all these presets as part of it.
