I really appreciate these kinds of videos: more creativity and motivation, less gear.

Thank you Kristen, I definitely fell for the viewership lure that goes hand in hand a fear videos but this is more of what I’m interested in discussing so when people take the time to comment it means a lot to me , thank you.

New subscriber - I’ve been binge watching your channel this morning and now feel so motivated to get off my butt and out with my camera. I am predominantly an abstract photographer and have recently found myself in a bit of a rut. I am hereby announcing that at least once a week I’m going to challenge myself to go outside (I usually shoot indoors) and wander my local streets and hey I might even shoot in colour! Thank you so much😎

Right on Amanda, I love to hear it! Let me challenge you to share what you shoot this week and tag me on Instagram as now I’m curious to see what you come up with :).

Painfully true words. I just got back from a dream trip to India for 2 weeks, thinking I'd be shooting absolute gold everyday, but came back with almost nothing good. I'd built it up too much in my mind and lost track of just enjoying being there, and was totally zoned in on taking photos, which really didn't happen well. Time to spend some time with my photo book collection and take a long hard look in the mirror! Thank you for the very wise words. -Jay.

Sorry to hear Jay, did you plan a story or something before the trip? I find planning ahead of time and have clear access and goals helps a lot when I travel and shoot.

I know you were joking about going out and buying a new Leica to find your motivation, but renting/hiring/borrowing a different camera or lens can be stimulating - and may save you a pile of money when you realise your dream gear wasn't for you after all!

Absolutely, renting is a great idea especially before you buy.

Great Advice :) I like looking at photo books myself and take a lot of inspiration from visual artists and designers… I also think limiting gear is great advice too - I’m currently on one camera for my street photography and one lens and I’m really starting to see a style form :) Thanks for the video Justin

Trying to get out of the slump by shooting film again and walking through the city as a tourist would. I also set myself the challenge to develop my b&w rolls myself in 2024 to get the feel for the process. Is the early morning/end of day light the best when you’re shooting mostly b&w?

Yes, you are right. My current excuse is 40 - 45F, grey and rainy. And it will be this way for two or three months. I have a new macro lens so I have to start some macro with focus stacking. That seems fun as I have never done it. It may be mostly nose hair and navel lint to start but I hope to branch out. Color! Thanks for the vid.
