    In Leo Ps words “ Sometimes I forget I play clarinet. It’s the first instrument I ever played. Thanks to my parents and other important people in Pittsburgh, I was fully supported in my musical endeavors as a child. I remember that first reddish brownish clarinet my mom gave me and how happy I felt when I played. Those years of my life will always be a huge part of me ❤️”

    In like literally almost in the same situation he is. I switched to bari sax after 4 years of flute experience, and bari sax became such a prominent part of me cause I liked it more I literally forgot how to play the flute correctly. Everything was squeaky and sometimes I played the wrong notes, like for a long time I was switching my c to the middle finger on the flute on accident 💀 it was a tragic time. Thankfully now I've gotten used to the difference, but I mostly play bari sax still

    f until you get the hang of it, but there are a lot of things you could do to make it better faster. Going over the break is difficult, but if you’re a sax player, high note fingerings are comparable, but low notes are weird for saxophonists. Your embochure will need to be a lot tighter than sax, but I’m sure you’ll be just fine.

    His playing isn't actually any better than his saxophone playing, and I'd argue it's worse. He was very sloppy and seemed to have a basic level of skill with the lower register, and his bending wasn't present at all despite the transcription calling for it (this may be the transcription's fault). Now I wouldn't say it's bad in the slightest, his range is quite incredible and he seems more comfortable in a higher register (maybe not those top notes hehe). I just wouldn't make the claim that he started off with the instrument, lest he made a switch to one he was more comfortable with.

    My Name Is Amber Too I actually quite like his plating. No, it’s not classical. Maybe that’s what you’re listening for? They are distinctly different in rhythm, articulation style, and of course phrasing. As a classical clarinetist and teacher, I would love to be able to play the jazz style effortlessly like he does here. It looks easy, but it’s actually very difficult, especially for those with a classical foundation.

  • @craterellus3577

    @craterellus3577

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@MissTEO1 I play clarinet 1 in my high school band, and I recently joined the after school jazz combo. I have to agree with you, classical to jazz is such a tough transition, especially when you already have such a strong foundation in a classical. I ended up switching to tenor sax for jazz, and my tone has somehow naturally developed into a classical sax tone despite having never played anything close to classical music on tenor. It's funny, I thought changing to an instrument that I have never played on before would at least help getting a jazz tone, but I know that articulation and improv are going to come with plenty of time and practice.

    No Way! I didn't know you played clarinet too! But man, that's gotta be so strange going from the pressure of the Baritone to a Clarinet!

    The first 3 notes sounded like "tequila"

    I heard it as well and looked it up to verify. Tequila is in the exact same key and you are totally correct about those notes. You may have a minor form of perfect pitch! If it's not perfect recall perfect, you can certainly quickly associate a memory based on perfect pitch sound alone

    I haven't move my body so harsh like this playing clarinet so far. It must be a good thing to try. It has to be.
