Right? All they want is a bit of respect and to not be bumped around. That’s why they wanted Edward in the previous episode. But now that Thomas is learning how to do it the right way, they won’t give him trouble.

The character growth in this series is downright legendary. Thomas, who hated the world and had resigned himself to the yard in frustration, has now, thanks to finally opening up to Edward, finally developed into someone much more aware of others’ needs, can handle responsibility, and most importantly, is still the little bag of snark he’s always been. But what I love here is how we see a side of James’ ego that’s gone more or less unexplored. This series showed very early on that James was desperate to leave the yard. Here we see James complain about not being able to take his goods train, something near unthinkable. As shown, this is because in the back of his mind he’s afraid that his worst fear: that he’ll be stuck in the yard forever, might be coming true. He lashes out not because like how Thomas used to, he’s sick of feeling put down and that nobody actually cares about him. And to be fair, that is how most of the other engines have treated him (albeit in some cases it was deserved). Thomas is the only one that really friendly to him, and he’s worried that Thomas will leave him behind like everyone else has. And like with Henry in the tunnel, once he’s convinced himself he’s in a place that he needs to prove himself, he’ll do just that, even if it isn’t a good idea. As a result, James’ ego and insecurity making him feel like he needs to prove he’s capable is shown by his treatment of the trucks, as he takes his frustration out on them which ultimately leads to his undoing. It’s only when he is literally put into a life or death situation that his ego stops blinding him. And then he feels nothing but remorse, and for the first time really, allows himself to be fully vulnerable with Thomas, finally opening up about how he feels, allowing Thomas to be vulnerable himself. The two get a moment to really show their friendship, and while is still kinda the same, he even shows he isn’t all selfish because he cares about not giving the painters extra work. His own growth and how it complements Thomas’ own is simply phenomenal. And that’s all without mentioning the absolutely beautiful writing. I’d honestly say this actually trumps both The Adventure Begins and the source material. Everything fits so seamlessly and flows perfectly, the references actually lift the scenes they’re in, and the fact you made James not only significant to the story but did it in a way that explored his character and added real stakes is nothing short of marvelous! I also loved all the wonderful moments within. How the trucks actually support Thomas after he’s gained their trust, how Henry and Gordon ‘attempt’ to give James some sympathy, albeit in their own biased way, how Henry shows actual concern after hearing of James’ crash and congratulates Thomas despite him being pretty hard on both of them, Gordon’s reaction to Topham telling him he’ll have to shunt his own coaches, and just everything with Thomas and Edward. Really makes these characters feel alive and well-rounded!

I don't think Thomas hates the world. I think he resents the engines who were supposed to help lighten the increasing workload when they arrived, but instead, they refused and left him to keep doing most of it, and then later, he had to fetch THEIR passenger trains. Feels unfair.

Definitely more of The Adventure Begins feel in this. What stuck out the most though, I'll be honest, is the quiet removal of the wooden brake blocks in favor of the usual: Driver gets knocked off. Then again, James has been on the island for a long enough period of time that they'd have been removed by this point. I can still see Gordon or Henry bringing it up. The idea that THIS was ultimately convinced STH does use the whole "Crisis proves oneself" cliche, but still works. But yeah, giving James a proper role in this was nice to see...and as they say, he knows how to steal a show; look forward to how the next three big arcs will be tackled.

HEhehe I LOVE how you use the trucks in this series so far. Cheeky, dim, but they have morals to a point. IT's not all "HURRAH HURRAH HURRAAA FASTER FASTER FASTER!!" if you treat em well, then they'll have some respect for the engine pulling them. Like with Thomas they were critiquing him as he pulled them, not actively planning to bump him or do something foolish to shake his confidence when he's trying his best to learn. XD And of course James steals the whole thing! Definition of a Napoleon Complex, and no wonder he's bright red with that temper! "OH DON'T MAKE IT PERSONAL! I'M JUST CONGRATULATING YOU!!" "Hehehe well that was a pretty aggressive congratulating, James." "I'M NOT AGGRESSIVE, YOU ARE! SHUT UP! STOP TALKING TO ME! AHH!!!"

Right? Like, they're both worried about the worse-case-scenario in their own areas, but an outside perspective into each other's situations let's them each say to each other "Buddy, you're worrying too much." And I just love how REAL they are with each other when no one else is around - they may not be buddy-buddy, but there seems to be a lot of trust between them

This is such a wholesome episode. The "cool uncle" and "willfully fun nephew" dynamic of Edward and Thomas is so wholesome, then pairing that with the contentiveness of Gordon, his semi-yes man Henry and the strong ego driven yet self worth questioning James makes such a great story. This truly is an "adult" take on what still feels like a childhood classic. Great work Trampy, thanks for what you've done and best wishes to future content.

The best thing about these adaptations are the creative liberties that are taken so that it could add depth to characters. Thomas' self-doubt, Edward's encouragement, James' jealousy- these all put the story in a new light that make it feel more personal. These aspects make these adaptations unique and fresh while staying true to the spirit of the original. This was an absolute joy to watch.

There's a lot of amazing stuff to unpack here but one small detail I want to shed light on is Henry and Gordon's reactions to hearing of James' crash. It's appropriate that Gordon would give a disapproving look, almost like he's thinking "told you so" in light of their earlier interaction. But for Henry, who's dynamic with James is easily the most vitriolic and mean spirited in the show so far, showing some remorse for James says a lot about how these engines stick together despite their quarrels. Phenomenal wrap-up to Thomas' book here, I like how this take implies the audience's knowledge of cranes. Only thing that makes me a lil' sad is dropping the detail of James' wooden break blocks, but that's a pretty minor detail.

This is how a little blue train show should be handled! Funny bits, but also with dramatic scenes that gets you feeling for the characters! It also seems Gordon does care for Thomas it seems, and also Topham is gonna regret his choice in like 2 days XD

i gottta say what i really loved in this episode is how the troublesome trucks are depicted. Edward teaches that the trucks are calm and obedient to any train who has the time and patience to work with them, and the trucks reciprocate by actively giving positive reinforcement of a sort to thomas as he takes his train out. each step is just "ok good so far". all the time, patience and attention thomas has gained and given to them is also seen in how the trucks respond to james doing it the wrong way, how they let slip that they'd rather have thomas pulling them (and when hit going "why did we say that", like theyve come to like thomas enough to forget saying his name is james' anger button at that moment)

I dunno why but I just love the trucks. They land in this chaotic neutral situation. They are not born bad, but they only cause trouble if they feel disrespected if they just feel like it. Also I love the JBS callback, and it makes sense for a theme like that to be in the early days of the NWR

It was quite disappointing that we never got any more retellings of Classic TV series episodes after The Adventure Begins as while not perfect it was one of the best things in the CGI era. Looks like your series has taken the mantle and is more than up for it. Beautifully done. I look forward to more retellings in the foreseeable future. Quite a nice touch to add more merit to Thomas earning his branch after actually saving James from a potentially worse fate.

This was really amazing. First of all, nice turnaround on production. You pumped this one out fast. As for the story itself: it's great. You nailed James here, with him fearing being overtaken by Thomas. I really like how he's an actual part of the story. Him coming out of nowhere like in the books is fine as a character introduction, but not when he's been in the background the whole time. Angry James is amazing, I don't know how to describe it but it's great. The bit with Thomas taking a goods train is great as James is hilarious, Edward is wholesome, and the whole scene shows how Thomas has made real improvements. He didn't earn his branch line JUST by cleaning up a wreck; he's really improved as an engine. It also serves as a nice contrast with James later. I like how Sir Topham Hatt originally wasn't going to give Thomas a branchline, with his help in James's accident being what puts him over the edge. Gordon and Henry reasoning with James that "Tender-engines don't shunt" is some great foreshadowing, and I like the little detail of Henry feeling bad for James and congratulatory for Thomas, as opposed to Gordon who just cares about having to shunt. And that scene in of itself in hilarious, and Gordon's banter with James makes me excited for the next set of videos. The Trucks are perfect, again. Them passing judgement on Thomas, like some sort of food critic is hilarious. Their dialogue with James is perfect, from the scene with Gordon all the way to the crash. I like the reference to "The Adventure Begins" as that version definitely had the most dramatic runaway. I like the fact that the Trucks are pain after the crash, as you can kinda tell they didn't plan on going THAT far. It removes the weird "suicide bomber" feel from the RWS and TVS. The dialogue between Thomas and James at the end is perfect. It's just the right mix of humor and emotion, that works really well with these two in particular. The one thing I DON'T like the removal of James's wooden brake blocks. It's an iconic part of the story and it easily could have been worked in. But considering you've adapted 8 episodes and I just now have my first bit of real criticism, thats pretty impressive. Keep up the good work. Also, 4:27 and 6:13 are hilarious.

I would love to see a part in a later Trampy Movie (most likely the next one), where Thomas helps rebuild the Ffarquhar Branchline, kinda like how MasterOfTrainz did his story "Thomas, Annie and Clarabel". Every episode you make only just gets even better, l love Thomas and Edward dynamic they’re like a sort of father and son or uncle and son relationship, I also like how you incorporated the adventure begins and how it leads to the next future stories. It’s a blend of RWS, Classic series and a bit of CGI and it all works so well with each other, for the ending it would be perfect if the credits were of Thomas going along the Ffarquar branch Line until he stops at the last station. I absolutely can’t wait to see more of the series as well as how they’ll be written, that will be fun!

episode watched, back for round 2 I don't know how you do it but every new one keeps being so much better than the last. The dynamic between Edward and Thomas is genuinely heartwarming- Edwards little lines under his breath are so touching, you can feel the nerves and desire for Thomas to succeed. James insulting Gordon and Henry is hilarious, him calling them bellends and muppets especially cracked me up. The scene of Thomas pulling a Crazy 8s and trying to stop James was legitimately tense, and the concern in both Thomas' and Edwards voices really sold the severity of the situation. The title card and little ending shot make the whole thing feel so polished and professional. I know I say it just about every time but keep up the good work!! This is some truly incredible stuff you're making here

I actually forgot some details I wanted to shout out cause there's just so many- the shot of Henry's face as STH explains James had an accident. You managed to convey what comes off to me as remorse/guilt with just a shot of his face and not a single word, like he feels truly bad about ragging on him in the last couple eps now that its led to this. And the obvious setting up for the arrival of Percy without making it too glaringly blatant. Its fuckin incredible how much you manage to pull off with voice over, sound effects, and what is effectively a slide show, I'm genuinely so impressed. It's like a Railway Series radio drama in youtube video form

Fantastic reinterpretation of Thomas and The Breakdown Train! I love how the crash was more realistic with James’ driver knocked off his footplate instead of him burning out wooden brakes while also retaining the chase sequence from The Adventure Begins. That chase was also another great job of editing like the faces in the past episodes.

Gotta say, yet another banger, Trampy! I absolutely loved the incorporation of elements from the TAB, and felt it added a lot to the story. Plus, the change from "wooden brake blocks" to "driver knocked off" was, although kinda odd, also an interesting change that I liked! And that ending was so nice, and heartwarming. What a great way to wrap up Thomas' story. Well done, Trampy! Well done! Warning bit of rant here: SO thankful that the included TAB bits were changed to make _actual_ sense. I mean, first, WHERE THE HECK DID THAT RANDOM BRANCH COME FROM?!! It was just nonsense placed there to keep Thomas from coupling up! Second, how does the guard mess up with one of his main jobs?! I know the train is in motion, which changes things up a bit, but coupling engines and cars together is part of the job!! YOU HAD ONE JOB, MAN!! And third, Thomas, I know you're trying to encourage the guard, but SHUT UP!!! You don't have to say stuff along the lines of "Keep Trying!" or "Don't Give Up!" fifty million times! Literally the only good part of that scene imo was the cool derailment at the end of it, and that's saying something! The bit with Thomas talking to the guard annoyed me so much I actually kinda wished the guard van would slam into him during the derailment! Nothing severe, just a hard bump! Anyway, that's all from me, I'm done.

Using the TAB approach to James's runaway was actually the last thing I expected, purely because I reasoned that a Jinty-sized engine probably couldn't keep up with a runaway mixed traffic engine. But whatever, suspension of disbelief and all. That aside, this actually made a much better impact than how TAB did it. Having Thomas actually succeed at reducing the severity of the crash was much more impactful than his efforts being completely pointless.
