I have recently learned my great uncle has a vintage fire engine, it must be 80 years old or more (and doesn’t run). It’s smaller than some modern SUVs!

Such a great variety of buses there! From older Leylands and Routemasters to newer Dennis Darts, Volvo B9TLs, Scania N94s and the Ipswich Bus Optare Metrocity and of course Jupiter!

Like they say regarding airplanes,"If it looks like it will fly, it will fly." With the wide track and low center of gravity, it looks like it will corner extremely well.

What a great collection of buses old & new at the show that Lawrie attended with Jupe's the Honourable Bus as well. Here's to seeing Jupe's next adventure on the open road & where it goes next.

Seeing Jupiter at this sort of event makes me want to see her at something like the emergency vehicle's day a Brooklands Museum at Weybridge in surrey. Be nice to see her with fellow Fire engines next to Concorde.

The Peeling's and Smith's coaches brought back childhood memories of coaches called the GNE (Great North Eastern) that took us between Darlington and Carlisle in the late 70's, early 80's. I love buses like that or those that have chrome rails on the seat backrests and semi-auto gearboxes, childhood memories again.

Thank you! Yes, it's all very exciting driving about the back roads, but doing the speed limit on a main road... Its not the greatest
This reminds me of travelling in a preserved 1986 Dennis RS from Dublin city to a vintage vehicle rally in Stradbally in County Laois (pronounced leesh) in 2006 here in Ireland . Lovely machine . Big Paul owned it but was not licensed to drive it at the time . he brought in his friend and licensed truckie bigger Paul to drive it . They're known collectively as the 2 mad Pauls ! The reason fire fighters could drive them around so quickly is they were trained to do so, they drove them in anger every day and got used to them. Preservationists like my friend paul and yourself Lawrie would only take thier fire engines out in rally season . In ireland we would have a lot less rallies then what you'd have in the UK too 🇬🇧

Looked like a great day out! That Ipswich route 13 bus used to be owned by TrentBarton and ran on route i4 from Nottingham, which passes the opposite side of a hill from where I live. It's a relatively rare Optare Tempo SR, with only 17 in the country

Looks like a grand day out. Looks like a popular vehicle at the show. What kid can pass up a fire engine? All those buses reminded me of my old bus which I miss. It was a '48 Chevy school bus converted into what was for me, home. A mobile college apartment. The engine space was so big, the engine so small you pretty much climbed up into it to do work under the hood.

@@lmm It really was. Cozy, well thought out. But I did not have the money or tools to rebuild the engine after it melted a piston so I sold it. When I bought it the door had been replaced by a wood door with windows. Shift knob was a glass doorknob. It had no horn so I loaned it a spare horn from a '71 Triumph Bonneville.
Quite good.😳

Can you fill it up with water, are you allowed to spray the water and what would you do if a fire broke out???

Yes, but not from a hydrant. I can do what I want with it 😂 Depends what the situation was. If I had water on board and it was something small I could deal with, we'd put it out. Anything bigger leave it to the professionals.

Can the fire engine tow a car trailer? can it hold most of your tools? I just saw the back and no trailer hitch, so you would have to install that; and if you want to fill it with tools for road repairs, you might have to take some of the hoses and fire gear out.
@lmm

I'd require a different licence to be able to haul a trailer with it. It would fit all my tools though.

@@lmm You do have a use for it. It would enable you to tow cars and trucks with the fire truck. I can't say if that makes it worth the money though, however I think quite a number of youtube classic mechanics are not paying enough attention to obtaining a classic transporter capable of moving most of the other stuff they work with.

Looking at footage from Blues and twos they still often dressed on the way to a scene in the appliance.
Jupiter could on a technicality be classed as a bus as it can carry passengers as she has more than two seats. One form of bus that always gets overlooked at a bus show is a minibus. How I would love to see someone have a restored old Ford Transit minibus or as I remember from my childhood a 1990's LDV minibus as this was one bus i remember well when I was in primary school, as it was a bus that took me to a afterschool club. Very slow and noisy things but characterful. The next generation of LDV minibuses were just as bad.
@lmm

That's what I was thinking
My honest opinion ( I am not a car man I'm a train man) I don't think the price of that tractor reflects the quality of the material you're getting. if it was in perfect working condition not only mechanically but cosmetically I would definitely worth the price and maybe a bit higher. but in the condition it in now especially with all the restoration work you're going to have to do to get up and looking it's best again ( assuming the engine is capable of running) It would not be worth the price.
