    1080s are my fave and I run nothing but. So smooth, especially when you ENABLE freewheeling. More people would do this if the name weren't somewhat confusing/misleading.

    Yea man I love the freewheeling setting on. Dumb name. Like having 15% extra punch and extra drag brake. Love it

  • @Jrod_FPV

    @Jrod_FPV

    I heard that on the 1080 , when you set free wheeling to ON, then you get better speed matching on descents. So for example if you hold 5% throttle while going downhill, with free wheeling set to ON, then your speed actually matches closely to 5% of your speed. Whereas with freewheeling OFF, when you're going downhill at 5% throttle, the truck has sort of a runaway and goes whichever speed it wants to, which is typically about 100% speed. Just wanted to clarify that's what you mean by misleading, because I too think it's misleading! Can you confirm this is true on the 1080?

  • @OswaldBeef

    @OswaldBeef

    4 жыл бұрын

    Jrod FPV that’s seems to be what I experience going downhill yea, certainly more control. going flat or uphill I can get my truck literally bouncing with throttle pumps...its description read to me like it’s holding extra current in my esc to motor wires instead of letting my motor dissipate the extra off.....so there’s always a little extra there right of the bat each pull.

  • @NaturallyRC

    @NaturallyRC

    @@Jrod_FPV Not my channel, but since you ask :-) I can't give you precise percentages but you're right that slow descents are better with 1080 Freewheeling enabled -- enough to make your jaw drop. When I say the setting name is misleading, I have spoken to people who assume it means when they release the trigger the rig will keep rolling until they apply reverse throttle...something you would see at the track. Not the case. John Holmes himself has tried to explain to the unwashed masses like me what the electronics are doing, but I prefer to think of it as pure witchcraft. 😁

    Its good you're explaining the "freewheeling" setting. I think it's the least understood setting amongst noobs. I learned on the Spektrum Firma 40 ESC that you actually want the freewheeling setting set to "ON" in the settings. Which is counter intuitive IMO because to me, freewheeling ON makes it sounds like the wheels are free to turn at their own speed when going down a hill. I heard the 1080 is also named backwards like this. But anyways, yeah this setting is CRITICAL for down hill control and I'm glad it exists. Set it to ON for best downhill control.

    Had my eye on this truck for s little bit now but had my doubts as well. I'm glad you have made this little series on this truck lately. I think it could make a pretty cool scale and trail truck that could be a lot of fun mainly because it's not too capable so therefore it doesn't need a comp course to have fun and be challenged. Hopefully there are a lot of scale accessories made by some companies down the road. Also Joe, do you happen to have any how to videos on things such as installing new motors and escs? I think a lot of viewers might be doing some upgrades if they run out and get this truck. Also maybe a quick vid showing what you mean about using the affiliate links. Just a simple screen capture w a voice over to show people really how easy it is to help the channel when they purchase ANYTHING on those sites. Actually better yet, I'm going to be doing some purchases online later today and I might just go ahead and make a quick 20 second screen cap of me using your links when I purchase stuff. Then I will send it to you and you can do a voice over if you decide to use it in a few vids. Have a great weekend everyone!

    Great demonstration of the crawling capability of this chassis. Any time now that servo should die, doing what you're doing. Ha. Might do to point out that with those 5-slot motors the low turn number equates to double-digit regular brushed motors. The stock Reedy feels like a 27 turn to me.

    Yeah I’ve mentioned the turns and stuff in previous videos. But according to Holmes the 13t is like a 27t for the 540 size motors. The 12t is like a 21t for the 550 size motors.

    Brass is a tuning option for crawlers to add weight down low for stability. As with anything, you can put too much on there. Glad I’m making the scalers look good, they are my favorite.

    @@ExocagedRC I'm glad you mentioned "too much" brass. Rather than piling on weight down low (stressing and breaking drivetrain components) I suggest more attention to picking better lines. A good start would be building a practice area just like Exocage (and also watching his videos to see how he does it).
